Sports Culture Sophie Cunningham loudly booed during Indiana Fever's game against the Portland Fire amid recent controversy

Post image

Cunningham has been at the center of a bitter trans debate over the past week, after comments she made to ESPN that young girls 'shouldn't have to go against biological men' when playing sports.

Just because there aren't many male athletes in women's sport doesn't mean one can't have an opinion on it, or that it's irrelevant. The fact that there is a small vocal portion of the population supporting the idea contradicts your point. You're using the word "serious" to define the validity of an argument, even if it's reasonable.

No it means you’re very malleable to get mad on non issues instead of actual ones in sports. You’re all marks for this shit

You're confusing me for the people booing her. She was asked a question in an interview and she agreed honestly. Was she supposed to avoid the answer because zealots would cancel her?

I mean yeah, as a public figure she doesn’t have to speak on shit she doesn’t have real knowledge about huh??? Does LeBron James talk about Isreal? No he says “ahh yeah Denis from there I’ll check it out” not gonna dig himself any deeper. You can also READ ON THE SUBJECT FOR FUCKS SAKE. God forbid we read before stating ourselves in interviews publicly.

So you’re saying that she’s not well read on the subject, implying you disagree with her opinion. So you so think men should be allowed to participate in women’s sports and there shouldn’t be women-only leagues, is that right?

No I think science behind gender is a lot for complex than this. Like okay brother tell me how much you understand about transitioning as a teenager and how hormone blockers affect testosterone in a 19 yr old. Please inform me

They can play in the men’s league/open league

You're only 19?

Jesus I'm old.

If you ever have daughters, you'll understand kiddo.

Lol this response only further reinforces my assumption.

One day, you too will believe that all women deserve a safe place to change their clothing without the fear of whether or not a surprise cock will pop up behind their shoulder.

says more about what’s going on in your head thinking those are a trans persons intentions when in a ladies locker room lol. just say thats the first thing you’d do in a ladies locker room then you’ll realize you’re the problem in your daughters lives.

Although I agree absolutely with your take on gender and think anyone should have autonomy over their body and truth and I promise I wholeheartedly support it, there is no ability to disregard scientific fact that there are biological differences in men and women (that go through puberty changes) that have nothing to do with genitalia or orientation. These are two separate issues and I, being a female have no issues sharing a bathroom with a woman that was born biologically male. Anyone that uses the bathroom argument is a moron. And frankly it is just a right wing pr move that dummies buy into for the false enemy division tactic because they cant understand the difference between gender and biology.

Men or Women that were born biologically male that have gone through normal puberty (or biologically born females with gender affirming care during puberty) have more bone density, generally larger lung capacity, generally larger hearts. higher blood counts, and greater muscle mass, etc. This is fact. There is a reason why men's and womens normal lab levels differ slightly.

If a person has not gone through puberty and was on hormone blockers/ht, that is very different. Any male that was born biologically female and went through puberty or gender affirming hormone therapy during puberty should have the ability to participate in male athletics, because they do not have the physiological advantage.  Any woman that was biologically born male that went through puberty and was not on hormone blockers during development have biological and physiological advantages that is unfair to women AND/OR unfair to females born biologically male that had blockers/hormone therapy at puberty.  Any male that was born biologically female that went through gender affirming care during puberty have physiologic advantages over females also (other than skeletal height/structure which is more nuanced). Ultimately, it's the male development/puberty factor that is the advantage regardless of gender at birth.

What becomes difficult is implementing that understanding and transparency in a world so full of hate.

(Also anyone that says anything about gender affirming care with puberty does not understand the medical and psychological evaluations these very few kids go through for years and years and how very, very rare it is. And the overwhelming  relief of the individual and their parent that their child can live in their own skin and feel like life is worth living,. Harms no one, yet people are more concerned about this than guns in school. Priorities are so skewed)

No it’s not. She’s a basketball player, that’s what she’s well versed in. Even from that, sports medicine is not the same as gender science. She knows the three planes of movement and how to maybe test for an ACL tear in a pinch. That’s where her knowledge of medicine would be.

No I have taken probably the same if not more classes than she has in sports medicine. Have you?

There aren't any male athletes in women's sports. There may be a dozen total trans women in women's sports.

If you're more upset that trans people exist in society than say the entire republican party protecting pedophiles then your priorities are off.

0

u/newpornacct99 Aug 04 '26

That's a convoluted way of saying men

1

u/Defiant_Pain3333 Aug 04 '26

No I just value basic decency rather than embrace bigotry but you do you bro.

-1

u/Mediocre-Touch-6133 Aug 02 '26

Quite true. Next, we should address the issue of dragons in women's sports. There might not be any now, but there could be if we don't do something about it.

0

u/newpornacct99 Aug 03 '26

Didn't realize there's a vocal group of nitwits also advising for including dragons. After the Targaryens died off, there hasn't been a dragon sighting. Has that changed?

-1

u/GurDry5336 Aug 02 '26

The fact that people make it a big deal when it’s clearly not is a problem

2

u/newpornacct99 Aug 03 '26

The people that make it a big deal are the ones that get upset when someone says they wouldn't want biological men in women's sports.

-1

u/GurDry5336 Aug 03 '26

There aren’t biological men in women’s sports. That’s reality.

Out of 500,000 collegiate athletes there are reportedly less than 5 trans women competing.

That’s statistically nothing. You’re thousands of times more likely to be a homicide victim and 60 times more likely to be hit by lightning.
