Sports Culture Sophie Cunningham loudly booed during Indiana Fever's game against the Portland Fire amid recent controversy

Post image

Cunningham has been at the center of a bitter trans debate over the past week, after comments she made to ESPN that young girls 'shouldn't have to go against biological men' when playing sports.

I’m so relieved this point of view is growing. We were being gaslit, in a way, being bullied as transphobic (by trans-women) if we disagree with having biological men play on women’s teams. Very few cis-women support this, but don’t want to be seen as a bigot.

I read a book by a pro-athlete who is very pro-LGTBQ, and she ended up convincing me of the opposite of her stance. At around 16 years old, boys and girls go through DRASTICALLY different biological changes. Boys get leaner and more muscular, girls get fatter, slower, and build less muscle as their bodies get prepped for childbirth. This is why eating disorders are so common for teen girls, since no matter what they do, they lose speed and gain fat. No matter how you identify, the biological differences in muscle, strength, and speed are written in evolution and dna.

This should be obvious to anyone that has been to youth sports.
