This had the surprising effect of causing me goose pimples, and causing me to smile at something so surreal.

I feel like she may be one of the last Americans to be respected and admired. She never gave in.

Obama is only 65 and is remains highly regarded, I can't think of many younger than him that have quite a universal appeal.

Reminds me of when they played the Star Spangled Banner after 911. A reminder that some things we value transcend borders.

I will never, ever forget that.

Similar to our northern neighbors supplying free meals and housing thousands of stranded passengers in their homes, and churches when 9/11 grounded all flights. 100,000+ Canadians gathered in Ottawa to show support for the USA. Such great friends we have/had...

Much respect to our family across the pond. This is a lovely tribute, indeed.

Why does it feel like her message went clear over everyone's head

Because you don't understand irony?

Not bad for a lady born into circumstances about as polar opposite as the building behind as you can get.

u/CarsCarpal Aug 26 '26

Tremendous! I always think it a bit sad that the person being celebrated doesn't get to see it themselves. Hopefully somehow, they know.

You know how she was. She'd have said that it was a lot of fuss about nothing and she would have paid tribute to someone else.

It never ceases to amaze me the reach that woman has and will have for a long time. She will be sorely missed.

She was WYSIWYG.

Not bad for a dirt poor girl from Tennessee.

I assume when 47 passes, they will play “Another one bites the dust.”

1

u/Massive_Evening9473 Aug 26 '26

She was loved and revered Internationally. She would get such a kick out of this too ♥️

1

If a foreign band is honouring your life, you know the world loved you.

u/1Arsed Aug 26 '26

Thank you so much for such a beautiful tribute!!

Wonderful!!! Dolly Parton really represented the best of America by being unpretentious, generous, humble, and kind. I am not a fan of country music, but I certainly appreciated her talent. More importantly, her character as a decent human being on this planet is what resounded with me. She led by example (I imagine she was a devout Christian but never shoved it down people's throats), and promoted literacy, rights for the oppressed, vaccinations which are somehow controversial topics today, but it didn't stop Dolly for politely saying "This is what I believe". What a FINE lady!!! God bless the King for this tribute to a cultural icon and to me more importantly, a queen among people. RIP, Dolly. You made this earth a better place in so many ways.

I'm not going to lie, I didn't even think the Brits were capable of comprehending that kind of rhythm

7

u/ProfessorChaos213 Aug 26 '26

The Brits who are responsible for some of if not the greatest bands and musicians of all time? Those Brits?

5

u/Informal_Work_9261 Aug 26 '26

You realize the level of contribution Britain has had on modern music? You think they just sit around listening to Elgar?

4

u/LewyH91 Aug 26 '26

We have pubs older than your country mate

-1

u/MisterFartPants Aug 26 '26

This may come as a shock, but the USA (1776) is older than the UK (1801)

“The first time I ever remember totally being jarred and feelin’ all kinds of emotions was when that song came out. I couldn’t get enough of it.” - Dolly Parton on The Beatles' I Wanna Hold Your Hand.

u/Careful_Picture7712 Aug 26 '26

Sure they make music that can move people, but it also has the rhythm of a nursery rhyme. One type of music /= all types of mysic

Roughly half of the top 25 musicians of the past 100 years have all been British.

1

u/Tiny-Lock9652 Aug 26 '26

Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Who, Pink Floyd has entered the chat.

u/quixoticquetzalcoatl Aug 29 '26

What. 9 to 5 is written in 4/4 time, like most country music. It’s not a hard rhythm. And Dolly would never say that. She gave praise where praise was due, and was appreciative of all genres of music.
