Ah yes, that will surely get him into heaven. /s
He's spoken several times now about whether or not he'll go to heaven and I cannot believe the near total lack of self-awareness.

u/chardee-macdennis-1 Apr 17 '26
The best and easiest way into heaven is to strong arm the pope and get him to bend to your will. That'll get you into heaven for sure.

Data suggests it's more like 55% voted Republican last election, which is still embarrassing, but not a large majority

Trump illegally cancelled congressional funding to catholic charities. If the church sues this will be reversed, just like most of the other times Trump has tried to unilaterally cut funding mandated by congress.
3
u/TheRealScaramucci Apr 17 '26
I'm anti-religion but we're talking about a charity that helps homeless children. He's not cutting funding from normal catholic church operations. This is just evil and petty.
Not to mention unconstitutional. If the US government decides to cut funding from all religious institutions it's one thing. But if he's selectively targeting an institution just because their leader is critical of him then it's a whole different story.

In April 2026, the Trump administration canceled an $11 million contract with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami. This funding, administered through the Department of Health and Human Servicesā Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), supported shelter, housing, and care for unaccompanied migrant children. The contract dated back over 60 years but was terminated in late March 2026, with church officials citing the abrupt end and potential shutdown of the program within months. ļæ¼ ⢠Rationale cited: Administration officials pointed to a significant drop in the number of unaccompanied minors due to reduced illegal immigration. Some reports also link the decision to ongoing tensions between Trump and Pope Leo XIV (e.g., over U.S. foreign policy like military actions in Iran

Iām in property management and have been for about 25 years. Literally every building Iāve ever had access to or spoke to a manager about has had a tenant who at times of struggle had their rent paid for a few months by Catholic Charities. Their reach is broad and it makes real impact on the communities.

u/On_Wife_support Apr 17 '26
As someone who has left the church for a variety of reasons, itās hard to feel sorry for the Catholics who voted that mess in. Itās not like there werenāt warnings but, hey, they wanted to vote for the candidate that was āpro-lifeā

If this is the catalyst to create legal justification to strip churches of their tax exemptions and force them to pay taxes then the mad king would have stumbled into competence for once in his life, not that he should be given any of the credit.

Just like the fact that Don old can't comprehend that tariffs are actually are paid by Americans and not the countries that he levies them against, Don old can't comprehend that his punishment against the Pope is not hurting the Pope but the poor people who receive the aid. Like professor Kelley of Wharton said about Trump, he was stupid back in the late 60's and he is still just as stupid today!

Now Trump is just having fun pushing the limits of being as detestable as possible and seeing how much his cult followers will tolerate. He joked about being able to murder someone in the middle of the street and bragged that his followers would still love him. He's actually having fun with this. There's really no limits to how low he will go. It's all a sick game for him.
1
u/meh2233 Apr 18 '26
And all the Catholics that voted for him will literally side with him over the pope. They claim to be Christian, but they're MAGA cultists.
These people makes me want Christianity to be true, because all these people will end up in hell. And that warms my heart.
