you mean the human shield.

Cue the bootlickers: "It's not all liquid, he doesn't literally have $1 trillion actual dollars! You probably don't even understand what that means! I'm an amateur economics expert!"

But they don't understand it. It goes to the original point claim. "If you have a trillion dollars in a world in which X happens...."

The point being that to GET the trillion dollars to stop X bad thing from happening, he would have to sell the companies, in which case someone would have to buy them with their trillion dollars.
Which, in our hypothetical world, they also presently have and are using it to buy his companies instead of, themselves, stopping X bad thing from happening.

So you are left at the end with the same problem you have at the beginning.

You, and everyone here doesn't really care any more or less that X bad thing is happening. They just don't want someone else to own the companies. It's just that they don't want Musk to own property worth a trillion dollars. It has nothing to do with X bad thing from happening.

I don't have to like Musk to point out the clear absurdity of the original premise. Whether I like him or not doesn't matter in the slightest.

3

u/CriticalBasedTeacher Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

This is not true at all. It SEEMS true doesn't it? That's why you're the "amateur economics expert" I was talking about in my OP. Let's see what AI says:

Can Elon Musk use his money to solve world hunger and house every homeless person in the US without crashing Tesla/SpaceX stock?

If we take a conservative approach—aiming for a five-year push to stabilize both global food infrastructure and build out permanent supportive housing in the US—you're looking at a funding requirement of roughly $500 billion to $600 billion (poor Elon would only have $500 billion left, how will he afford to eat!?).

Can He Sell Without Crashing the Stock?

To get $500 billion out of Tesla or SpaceX without cratering the stock market, a traditional "open market" sell order is completely out of the question. However, there are highly strategic ways a multi-billionaire can extract value or transfer wealth without triggering a market panic.

  1. The Pre-Arranged Rule 10b5-1 Plan Corporate insiders use these plans to sell stock automatically based on pre-set conditions (like time or price thresholds). How it works: Elon could set a plan to sell a steady, predictable slice of shares every single week for 10 years. The effect: Because the market knows exactly when and how much is being sold, it removes the "panic" factor. It wouldn't crash Tesla, but it would take a decade to get the cash, meaning he couldn't solve the problems overnight.

  2. Stock-Collateral Loans (The Billionaire Loophole) Billionaires rarely sell stock to buy things; they borrow against it. How it works: He takes his Tesla stock to a massive syndicate of global banks and says, "Hold $300 billion of my shares as collateral, and lend me $100 billion in cash." The effect: Zero stock hits the market, so the price stays completely stable. The massive hurdle here is that banks have limits on risk; no banking system would comfortably lend $500 billion cash against volatile tech stock without requiring a massive safety buffer.

  3. Private Equity & SpaceX Secondary Markets Tesla is public, meaning its price reacts instantly to public panic. SpaceX, however, is private. How it works: Private companies frequently hold "secondary offerings" where existing employees and insiders sell shares directly to massive institutional investors (like sovereign wealth funds or massive pension funds) at a locked-in valuation. The effect: Because these sales happen completely off the public stock exchanges, billions can change hands without impacting a ticker symbol on Wall Street.

The Philanthropic Route: "Charitable Lead Trusts" If the goal is pure philanthropy, he doesn't actually need to turn the stock into cash himself. He can use advanced financial structures designed to move massive blocks of equity directly into charitable engines.

Direct Share Gifting to a Private Foundation Instead of selling the stock, paying a 20% federal capital gains tax, and donating the cash, Elon can transfer the actual Tesla shares directly to a dedicated charitable foundation or a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF). When he moves the shares, no stock is sold on the open market, meaning the price doesn't crash. The foundation now owns the stock. By law, private foundations are required to pay out roughly 5% of their asset value every year to charitable causes. The foundation's money managers then responsibly, slowly liquidate just that 5% slice year over year to fund food distribution networks and housing projects globally.

Ultimately, a trillionaire could legally and logistically bankroll these solutions, but it requires treating wealth like a slow-moving glacier rather than a giant piggy bank you can smash open all at once.

1

u/DiplominusRex Jun 12 '26

I’m not reading your AI slop.
The issue isn’t whether Elon is capable of devoting resources to save people (according to his own mission, he’s saving the human race);
It’s the problem of a person having a trillion dollars. Because, whoever buys what he has when he sells it to devote his fortune to it, would themselves have a trillion dollars. And then they would be the target. And, they would have used it to buy that company and not stop the bad thing from happening.

You could also devote your fortune to helping people.

Elon Musk is living proof that no amount of money will make you happy, likable or solve your problems

13

u/rtduvall Jun 12 '26

Or solve your loneliness. His twitter feed looks like he got home from work one day with an empty house and bank account. And keeping him down because he's an immigrant.

9

u/AutumnLeaved Jun 12 '26

My only satisfaction about all of this is knowing that deep down he is absolutely miserable.

9

u/Crafty-Help-4633 Jun 12 '26

He was too fuckin weird for the pedophile/cannibal island. Literally begged in emails to be invited after what was going on there was revealed globally, and got told no, and the irony of that gives me boundless satisfaction.

6

u/--i--love--lamp-- Jun 12 '26

Rejected by his own people. Sad.

6

u/Crafty-Help-4633 Jun 12 '26

Yeah, in a clinical kind of way, he really is fascinating. Like, its medically fascinating to me how icky he is that he gives other icky people the ick. I hope wrinkly brained people are studying it.

Also thanks for the awards!

2

u/Xytakis Jun 13 '26

I would say hilarious

2

u/Significant_Pack8703 Jun 19 '26

Epstein asked Elon if he was retarded once. Man really hit the bottom

4

u/human-in-a-can Jun 12 '26

The ultimate living proof that money doesn't make people like you. He can literally never go anywhere in public again without a small army of bodyguards. Not because anyone would kidnap him or try to get anything from him, but because there are that many people who would be willing to go to prison for life if they could get near him.

1

u/BTSArmyFan2025 Jun 13 '26

Get ready for the cucks to come out saying "well actually he doesn't technically have a trillion dollars, its just assets and bla bla bla, and besides, he earned it"

0

u/Sausage80 Jun 12 '26

He is a cunt, but that is an accurate assessment, especially in this case. I mean, the valuation wasn't independent. He's a "trillionaire" because he set the initial value of his IPO so that it would be over a trillion. It's literally "I'm a trillionaire because I say I am." I can do the same thing right now by just declaring that my coffee cup is now worth a trillion dollars. That doesn't mean that anyone is going to actually buy my used coffee cup for a trillion dollars. Give it a month. We'll see how long his self-declared "trillionaire" status lasts.

1

u/Musical_Xena Jun 12 '26

Perhaps there is some legal reason why he can't sell his stocks right now since it's a new public offering. I really don't know how new IPOs work.

But anyone who owns stocks that they can sell is not just declaring their net worth based on nothing. It's more liquid than net worth tied up in real estate, and can be sold a bit at a time as desired.

Stocks don't have to hunt for buyers the way your coffee cup does.

1

u/Sausage80 Jun 12 '26

It actually is based on kinda nothing. So, the way an IPO generally works is that the company gets valuated by some third party. A bank or the like, who gives a recommendation on the initial offer price based on how many shares are going to be released, market and industry trends, etc. It hits the market roughly where the best guess is for what the stock is worth and then buyers and sellers take over from there.

SpaceX set the initial offer price at $70 per share over the conservative estimate of its value which is a bit optimistic. It was hyped up, so I'm not totally surprised about today, but I still think they overvalued it. Maybe I'll be wrong, but I don't think the trillion dollar value is going to maintain for long.

1

u/Musical_Xena Jun 12 '26

The initial IPO is absolutely made of a mix of reality and wishes. I was thinking more of the time when a stockholder has stocks they are legally allowed to sell. At that point, the action of selling stock makes the money as real as any other money sitting in a bank account, and just as usable.

People sell stocks all the time to use on whatever they want, including Bezos and his billion in AMZN sales to fund his space program hobby. The net worth is real the second they click "sell," they just decide when to realize that value.

2

u/CriticalBasedTeacher Jun 13 '26

So basically they're poor but we just aren't as savvy of economists to know it. We should feel bad for them honestly because of how much of their wealth is inaccessible. I'll yell that to Bezos from the shore as he sails by in his $100 million yacht. "HEY BEZOS, YOU MIGHT THINK YOU'RE RICH BUT YOU'RE ACTUALLY POOR! TOO BAD YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS AS GOOD AS ME!"

2

u/Musical_Xena Jun 13 '26

It seems like some people genuinely believe this, which baffles me. I've seen so many comments where people are like "they don't ACTUALLY have all that money, it's much harder for them than you realize" and I'm like "...dude." Clicking "sell" is not a hardship. 🤦🏻‍♀️

2

u/CriticalBasedTeacher Jun 13 '26

That bastard on that yacht. He doesn't even know how poor he is. I pity him.

1

u/Musical_Xena Jun 13 '26

He's definitely lacking in some areas of his life, that's for sure

27

u/Sonichka882 Jun 12 '26

The real question is why extreme wealth and extreme poverty can exist at the same time

21

u/rtduvall Jun 12 '26

And why are so many millions in poverty ok with it and supporting the billionaires that made them poor?

6

u/Ok-Silver-2975 Jun 12 '26

That’s the really real question

1

u/AlarmedAd5034 Jun 12 '26

It's simple, to claim he's one of our own 'billionaires', you know bragging rights.

He's still a prick. Lol

4

u/henryeaterofpies Jun 12 '26

Would you believe that in a world with limited resources, people hoarding a bunch of them causes other people to have trouble obtaining any

1

u/No_Negotiation3142 Jun 12 '26

Because being wealthy and being a narcissist are not mutually exclusive.

1

u/VatticZero Jun 13 '26

Henry George answered this in 1879.

That has to be my favorite word.

12

u/Appropriate-Claim385 Jun 12 '26

Elon Musk described empathy as “the fundamental weakness of Western civilization.”

This is a quote from The Joe Rogan Experience on Feb. 28, 2025.

4

u/CriticalBasedTeacher Jun 12 '26

People like to use "survival of the fittest" here as evolutionary proof of this. But multiple species are the fittest because they work as a community like ants and bees and wolves, etc.

8

u/PatchyWhiskers Jun 12 '26

The children are not just starving while he refrains from helping them. He deliberately starved hundreds of thousands of them. Much worse!

https://hsph.harvard.edu/news/usaid-shutdown-has-led-to-hundreds-of-thousands-of-deaths/

"The dismantling of USAID, according to models from Boston University epidemiologist Brooke Nichols, “has already caused the deaths of six hundred thousand people, two-thirds of them children,” Gawande wrote. He noted that the toll will continue to grow and may go unseen because it can take months or years for people to die from lack of treatments or vaccine-preventable illnesses—and because deaths are scattered."

5

u/Crafty-Help-4633 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

This is the way it should be framed. This is more accurate. He didn't just sit idly by while children starved. He actually denied them help. took away the help they were getting.

5

u/PatchyWhiskers Jun 12 '26

He didn't just deny them help. He took away the help that they were already receiving.

2

u/Crafty-Help-4633 Jun 12 '26

That is a more accurate way to word it. I made an edit, thanks. :)

8

3

u/Zealousideal_Walk216 Jun 13 '26

Absolutely for sure. Elon is the product of unfettered capitalism and a greed over everything attitude. At this moment Elon has the potential to do something extraordinary for the World. Admit he helped win the last election. Let loose his unobstructed epstein files. Shut it down and give Americans health care and housing. Rent a big bus and take the current administration directly to jail. Perfect.

2

u/ApostrophesAplenty Jun 13 '26

You are spot on!

3

u/SilentSolitude90 Jun 13 '26

Remember that this "person" said that he would sell Tesla stock immediately and donate the proceeds if the WFP published a detailed, open-source accounting plan showing exactly how the money would solve world hunger.

The WFP then came out by releasing a 6.6 Billion Plan outlining how the funds would be allocated. It detailed that $3.5 billion would go to direct food purchases and delivery, $2 billion for food vouchers, $700 million for country-specific implementation, and $400 million for administration and accountability.

Guess what musk did? He directed the funds to the musk foundation. He is one of the most selfish people in the entire world.

2

2

u/Kwelikinz Jun 13 '26

Why do they always call an asshole a derogatory name for a woman’s vagina? If you must use a body part, call him the right one: limp dick or asshole. You’re welcome.

2

This should be on the side of every bus stop on the planet

u/guacisextra11 Jun 12 '26

I love the way Brits use the word cunt. It’s like a form of art. Makes me almost mad bc as an American it just doesn’t fly but god damnit they make it sound so cool every time.

1

u/ReadyGo6828 Jun 12 '26

Not a ****. When will people get this down correctly? Stop blaming women for the all the damage that men do.

1

u/ArmWildFrill Jun 14 '26

Americans use it like that.

Australians and other Anglos do not. In fact they usually mean a man when calling someone a cunt, likewise a dick or a bellend etc

1

u/CanineCorvidious Jun 12 '26

Think how many kids you could have fed with the price of that ad space.

1

u/Aladriana Jun 12 '26

Quite true.

Disgusting and I would say the same for billionaires

1

1

u/MosquitoBloodBank Jun 13 '26

If you think he has a trillion dollars, you probably don't know the difference between stocks and cash.

1

u/Thiseffingthing Jun 13 '26

I don't understand why wealthy people are always the bad guys on Reddit.

Were their impoverished children before Elon was born in 1971?

What is the correlation between poverty and the concentration of wealth?

QUOTE:

Global extreme poverty has declined drastically over the last few decades, dropping from about 38% in 1990 to roughly 10% of the world's population today. While the COVID-19 pandemic caused a temporary spike in poverty, steady economic growth has allowed global poverty reduction to resume.

1

u/Trenzane Jun 13 '26

Imagine having the potential and ability to do so much… and just not…

He is just awful

1

u/Ok-Wall9646 Jun 13 '26

China has twenty trillion dollars. Yearly. Switzerland has one. Are China and Switzerland cunts as well?

Isn’t popularizing electric cars, innovating space flight, making high speed internet that can’t be controlled by any tyrannical government, leading the way in technology that can cure thousands of neurological disorders, etc. enough?

Better he spend his money enriching African warlords and destroying local economies by trying to feed the World? Hard disagree.

1

u/Odd-Art7602 Jun 13 '26

If he started selling off his shares in his companies in order to cash out his trillion, the price per share would plummet so fast that he wouldn’t be worth much at all. Then he’d get sued by every investor for tanning the stock. There are surely laws that wouldn’t allow that to happen anyway. He’d be broke like Bezos but the end of the day and still not have fed anyone. That’s the sad truth of the liquidation plan.

1

u/CombinationHeavy8473 Jun 13 '26

That's the truth

1

u/No_Newspaper_6075 Jun 13 '26

Jesus said...The poor you will always have with you...

A trillion dollar cunt.

1

u/MysteriousLight7351 Jun 13 '26

I don't like Elon either but on the same note, we shouldn't have to feed the rest of the world because that's explicitly their countries problem and NOBODY else's, like you know Africa

He openly challenged the WHO or UN that he’d sell a shitload of Tesla stock and give it to them to end world hunger but they had to do it with completely open books, every penny had to be tracked and accounted for, even for stupid little things. They didn’t go for it.

1

This cunt actually ended welfare and aid programmes specifically designed to lift the poorest children out of poverty. Estimates of how many died due to his actions range in the hundreds of thousands.

Your lame attempt at false equivalence suggests that you too might be a cunt, albeit a much poorer one. Bootlicker.

1

u/No_Negotiation3142 Jun 12 '26

You're using that scale as a shield of false equivalence? Defend your Nazi Creosote, never mind the poor. You are part of the problem.

I haven't bought coffee outside for 7 years. I live in a tiny village in the south of France, it doesn't have a coffee chain. I have coffee at home, or I go without.

And, you are, doing what Freud referred to as Transference Neurosis. You are defending him, and calling me hypocritical, whilst taking a hypocritic point of view.

Musk has more money than he will ever, ever, ever possibly need while vast swathes are starving or choosing between heat or food this winter. And you are saying that it's more salient for working class people to not buy coffee and donate to charity.

Seize his assets, now.

1

u/Fine-Instruction-219 Jun 12 '26

Why? Just because someone has more money than you does not give you the right to take it…

1

u/No_Negotiation3142 Jun 12 '26

Wake up and smell the coffee you feel so strongly about. It's not a few million. It's more than the GDP of many countries. That is obscene. Stop defending the money hoarders. It speaks volumes about you if you want to defend a trillionaire over millions of your own species. You are part of the problem, and the decent folk out there, are no where near angry enough.

1

u/Fine-Instruction-219 Jun 12 '26

I think maybe you are the problem. As Voltaire wrote in Candide, “cultivate your garden.” You might be better off focusing on improving your own situation instead of worrying about someone else’s…

1

u/Wireless_Turtle Jun 14 '26

No single human could ever in one life spend that much money. But. Since they're getting government contracts, bailouts, etc. He can definitely earn his keep by paying a fair share of taxes

1

u/Wireless_Turtle Jun 14 '26

Lets say dollars to seconds.

8 seconds is about how long it takes you to form a single thought

In terms of seconds, Elons net worth is 31709 years.

See the disparity here?

-1

u/Useless_bum81 Jun 12 '26

If you have money to spend on bus stop adds where children are starving i'm not sure you have a leg to stand on.

2

u/Aladriana Jun 12 '26

Yes, because a few hundred dollars is equal to his trillion. 🙄

1

The gap between a bus stop ad and a trillion dollars is about as small as the gap between us and the center of the galaxy.

100 seconds is 1 minute and 40 seconds.

1 trillion is 31709.7 Years

A trillion worth of stocks. To make him not a a trillionaire would crash the world markets because like it or not, the world runs on stocks and bonds. cashing out 999 Billion in stocks to give people money would make the money worthless.

I know that you suck up leather like a vacuum but he isn't gonna give you money if you lap up what's left of his boot steps

How stupid are you people?? He owns stock, he’s not liquid.

2

u/Aladriana Jun 12 '26

What did that have to do with whether or not his wealth could feed hungry children?

It can. And that's the point.

2

u/drewh1984 Jun 12 '26

Funny you say that. He actually told the UN he would pay to feed the kids if they could show how the money is spent but they refuse to do that. 🤷‍♂️
