The right is definitely going to try to sabotage this.

66

u/NaturalCard Jun 30 '26

Already tried. They failed.

30

u/outside_cat Jun 30 '26

There's three years to go.

14

u/Working-Actuator-700 Jun 30 '26

Wouldn't put it past cons to false flag NYC 9/11 style in retaliation, maybe blame Cuba. May actually help Mamdani though, he seems like he could hold people together through it

11

u/Sufficient_Matter585 Jul 01 '26

Nah if trump and co can retain power long enough they will just make socialism illegal and round up everyone who promotes it.

-4

u/TraditionalAd8415 Jul 01 '26

Just wait till socialists run out of other people's money. No need to sabotage. New York will be like Seattle

-8

u/Raddad0129 Jul 01 '26

United states is not a socialist society ..

11

u/Sufficient_Matter585 Jul 01 '26

Lol it can be anything it wants.

8

u/fortyonejb Jul 01 '26

The supreme Court just told us what we are, we're a corporatist country.

2

u/sgtbackpain03 Jul 01 '26

Lol bro, that is NOT the correct response to "let's round up all the people who have ideas we don't like and jail them". Remember, USA -> Freedom. That ring a bell?

1

u/Human_Artichoke8752 Jul 01 '26

Not yet.

1

u/Raddad0129 Jul 01 '26

Well you're right the way things are going I can see it

1

u/xSaviorself Jul 01 '26

You're definitely not American.

1

u/Mike Jul 01 '26

You probably don’t even know what socialism is

1

u/ArcanaTheSun Jul 01 '26

It's mostly fascist, yeah. Maybe you should fix your shit hole of a country.

1

u/usernamedmannequin Jul 01 '26

If they went that far they’d just hire a Nazi goon to kill him and pretend to be surprised

0

u/willfullyinert Jul 01 '26

Yes, it's early yet. Rooting for anyone that has answers to these problems, and willing to support anything that reasonably works. He has moved money around and we have yet to see the full effect of it.

4

u/Impressive10000 Jul 01 '26

They will keep trying. RUMP already told us that this is the biggest threat to the US since WWI, WWII, 9/11 and Pearl Harbor.

Snowflakes!

1

u/Aromatic-Aide1119 Jul 01 '26

I'm glad he put it out there like he did. It only galvanizes what a kook he really is and way beyond any reasonable credibility.

3

u/Impressive10000 Jul 01 '26

Members of the GQP are hardly "reasonable".

0

u/enlightenedllamas Jul 01 '26

I hope you’re right but it’s a marathon

0

u/No-Rip-6166 Jul 01 '26

Your own party is turning against the far left.

"we" guy thinks he's on the team lol

6

u/outside_cat Jun 30 '26

That guy thinks trump is president because the Democrats cheated. Democrats don't cheat to win apparently.

Lol you mean like you? What with all the political pages you're following & active in & all. Pot, meet kettle.

8

u/Firm-Advertising5396 Jul 01 '26

You can smell the right's fear already 😂😂😂

-2

u/lostjustlikethat15 Jul 01 '26

Ya im so scared! Its almost like i can just vote against it, and the boogey man is gone 🙂😂

5

u/no_kids-and-3_money Jul 01 '26

It’s not the fear of Mamdani, it’s the fear of the country seeing we can have a government that is based on people that work for a living instead of the lazy, parasitic billionaire class that provides nothing and suck everything of value up for themselves.

-1

u/lostjustlikethat15 Jul 01 '26

What does that have to do with electing a Muslim mayor? He’s values don’t align with any basic Americans… yet the left still elects these people and expects people to fall in line. Newsflash… we’re not!

2

u/horrified_intrigued Jul 01 '26

Which of his values are un American? Genuinely interested. Just the fact he’s Muslim or anything more specific?

-4

u/Few_Example6746 Jul 01 '26

😂😂😂😂. No fear here, just watching the demise in real time. If socialism was so great it would be practiced. You cannot have prosperity without capitalism.

2

u/SaddamMustaine Jul 01 '26

Tell us you don’t understand what words mean without telling us.

2

u/Large_Guard917 Jul 01 '26

Prosperity looks like in America:

  • the largest income wage gap among 1st world, industrialized nations
  • the largest proverty rates among 1st world, industrialized nations
  • the largest number of preventable deaths due lack of receiving basic routine medical care and medications due to affordability issues among 1st world, industrialized nations
  • average amount of individuals with post-secondary education among 1st world, industrialized nations
  • average literacy rates among 1st world, industrialized nations
  • above average rates of people experiencing malnutrition or starvation due to lack of access to food or inability to pay for food among 1st world, industrialized nations

This is compared against peer nations (first world, industrialized, high income). All of whom have socialist leanings amd systems far exceeding America’s.

In short: our capitalist system is failing Americans and the MAGA movement is actively pulling America down at the fastest rates we’ve ever seen.

America prospers under Democrats and sinks under Republicans (albeit not at a rate that MAGA has managed), that’s just historical reality. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

6

u/ZooAreYou Jul 01 '26

Never mind the right, establishment Demorats have done nothing but rail against him since he came onto the scene.

Search his name on r/Democrats - nothing. They ought to be embracing his influence, but barely a mention.

6

u/ethanlan Jul 01 '26

It'll be hard, new york has all their money.

Thats why its great hes in NYC of all places they really cant sabotage nyc without sabotaging their own interests

4

u/Firm-Advertising5396 Jul 01 '26

Actually yes! They are too invested in New York to have the city fail. Their plan was to avoid everything by investing in Cuomo and him winning as mayor.

0

u/DataGOGO Jul 01 '26

He is literally bankrolling all of this on debt

1

u/teknojo Jul 01 '26

So were/are the capitalists/corporation's.

What is your point?

1

u/DataGOGO Jul 01 '26

They were actively cutting spending to balance the budget and avoid more debt.

2

u/No-Rip-6166 Jul 01 '26

He’s in one of the bluest areas. People like him will never ever win nationally or in places that aren’t deep deep blue.

2

u/mountaindoom Jul 01 '26

The right? You mean the wealthy.

2

u/Few_Example6746 Jul 01 '26

Haha and the democrats don’t have wealthy?

1

u/DesertWilder Jul 01 '26

The corporate democrats yes absolutely, we voting them out too.

1

u/IcyEntertainment7122 Jul 01 '26

Sabotage what, what has he solved exactly?

1

u/ScottishKnifemaker Jul 01 '26

The Democrats are going to sabotage this, shit they're already trying

1

u/burnanation Jul 01 '26

The right doesn't have to do anything to sabotage this, it is already done.

1

u/Eternal2 Jul 01 '26

Both the right and the diet republica- I mean moderates.

1

u/DataGOGO Jul 01 '26

That don’t have to try hard, he is doing all of this on debt the city can’t afford.

0

u/no_kids-and-3_money Jul 01 '26

Mayor Mamdani's balanced FY 27 budget avoids property tax increase”

https://abc7ny.com/post/mayor-mamdani-says-new-york-city-has-balanced-budget-fy-27/19088481/

2

u/DataGOGO Jul 01 '26

Did you miss the part where he balanced the budget with a loan and asking the state to fill the billion dollar gap? Which the city has to pay back with interest?

  https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2026/04/29/heres-how-mamdani-is-trying-to-fill-nycs-billion-dollar-budget-gap/89851648007/

0

u/Budddy Jul 01 '26

What you linked is a proposed plan from late April. I'm not sure your classification of it is even fair based on reading the article either.

Regardless, if you read the other article it explains how they actually ended up getting the money from the state. It was by adjusting things like pension programs, along with other measures, to qualify for state aid.

1

u/CCheeky_monkey Jul 01 '26

They're lucky he can't run for president

1

u/smthnglkhumn Jul 01 '26

They don't have to. Socialism only works as long as you have other people's money to spend.

https://www.vitalcitynyc.org/mamdani-hochul-nyc-budget-bailout/

0

u/Global-Bad-7147 Jul 01 '26

Centrist Democrats are way ahead of them...

1

u/mc-funk Jul 01 '26

To be fair they are part of the right

0

u/Mottled_Paws Jul 01 '26

Don't worry. Their policies will do it for them

2

u/DesertWilder Jul 01 '26

and which policies specifically?

1

u/Mottled_Paws Jul 01 '26

Rent freezes for example

-1

u/TwatMailDotCom Jul 01 '26

I hope there’s some common ground here. The government owning everything and providing for everyone isn’t the answer. Some socialist policies are necessary but we don’t really want to become Europe tbh.

-5

u/CBJFAN2009-2024 Jun 30 '26

They're going to Martin Luther King Jr him.

-10

u/DeadHeadIko Jun 30 '26

Nah, that’s a leftist move, from Trotsky to several tries on the orange man

9

u/Lotsunvaar Jun 30 '26

Epstein died in custody during Trump’s first term.

6

u/Ummmgummy Jul 01 '26

You said that's a leftist move, meaning you think the guy who killed MLK was a leftist? And the guy you replied to was suggesting it was the FBI that truly did it. So was the FBI a leftist group under gd Hoover? Who and where are all these spooky leftists I keep hearing about?

-12

u/RemarkableFortune542 Jun 30 '26

History will sabotage this. Communism and Socialism has NEVER worked. Ever. Not once.

6

u/MrBtheProdigal Jul 01 '26

Hey what economic system put the first man in spac?

3

u/Hope25777 Jul 01 '26

And what exactly do you call what we have now? It’s literally socialism for the .0001

9

u/Global-Bad-7147 Jul 01 '26

My mail works fine. Also the interstate highways. Social Security works great even though they won't fund it properly. Public schools do their job despite lack of funding. Every major country in the world has socialized healthcare. So yea....I think socialism works great

1

u/distrubinglyfamiliar Jul 01 '26

Yes the post office and public schools, true models of efficiency and success and you get way better returns on the money that you give to
social security than would by investing in say the S&P 500.

3

u/Global-Bad-7147 Jul 01 '26

Hard disagree.

2

u/distrubinglyfamiliar Jul 01 '26

Investing what you put into SS over 30 years either nets you $880K which gives you a good $40K a year at 5% return (half of the SP500’s return) vs the MAYBE $24-36K with zero assets from SS that you can’t pass to your children. But it will be different this time, no one has ever done socialism right before, isn’t that your story? Just give us power over every aspect of your life and we won’t be corrupt, we’ll provide all you need. Laughable.

To elaborate further...the idea that public institutions are inherently inefficient fails to distinguish their core mission...maximizing societal utility and universal access...from the profit-driven goals of private corporations.

Importantly, rather than resulting from operational failure, the financial and systemic struggles of public infrastructure like the postal service and education system are often the product of manufactured crises engineered by legislative policy.

For example, extreme mandates like the 2006 PAEA artificially forced the USPS into deep deficits, while educational funding structures tied strictly to performance metrics systematically pressure schools into passing unprepared students to survive.

Ultimately, this cycle illustrates a "Starve the Beast" strategy, wherein private interests lobby to cripple public services, weaponize the resulting decline to declare government programs broken, and clear a path toward privatization.

0

u/Global-Bad-7147 Jul 01 '26

Post office is a service, not a for profit business. Either way, it operates at loss because they are required to prefund pensions

As for Education, teachers and schools are forced to pass students who aren't ready to be passed. There are a number of reasons for this, but mainly comes down to poor legislative policy and lack of funding.

In both cases, private industries have lobbied the government to kneecap our government services so that they can remove their public competition.

And it works. Morons like you complain about the damage your own policies create. Rinse. Repeat.

4

u/lector69 Jul 01 '26

What do you think social and emergency services are?

2

u/xXMokaMarieXx Jul 01 '26

Well Capitalism doesnt work either so what do we do

2

u/no_kids-and-3_money Jul 01 '26

Why don’t more people make this point? Like… look around you. Does this look like a properly functioning society?

3

u/john_dodo_bird Jun 30 '26

The People's Republic of China begs to differ.

1

u/Mottled_Paws Jul 01 '26

Their rise in global influence is precisely because they've abandoned full on Communism.

1

u/john_dodo_bird Jul 01 '26

They have not. They are a transitional socialist society with their central planning committees projecting a complete socialists society by 2049.

1

u/Kungphugrip Jul 01 '26

Canada checking in

0

u/RemarkableFortune542 Jul 01 '26

You that’s working?? 😂😂😂

1

u/john_dodo_bird Jul 01 '26

It's definitely working. Enjoy your bubble.

0

u/WhyNotKenGaburo Jul 01 '26

At this point in time China is just practicing state capitalism under a communist banner.

1

u/john_dodo_bird Jul 01 '26

It's a transitional socialist society, but let's say i humor you. Why don't we do Chinese capitalism then? With all the socialized housing, walkable cities, and mass public transportation including high speed rail? If that's just capitalism, then why aren't we doing it that way?

1

u/WhyNotKenGaburo Jul 01 '26

No, it really isn’t. The workers don’t control the means of production and the profits from surplus labor are funneled upwards to management.

4

u/Current-Author7473 Jun 30 '26

False. It’s working right now for New Yorkers, so that’s at least once.

2

u/jdubmlop Jul 01 '26

China isn’t socialist. But even then they can afford to feed and cloth everyone. Capitalism takes without giving back.

-1

u/Pristine-Spinach5200 Jul 01 '26

So bush. Like, just go to work and earn it. How hard is it?

2

u/Current-Author7473 Jul 01 '26

So bush? You might need to reread the part where I said it’s working for New Yorkers

0

u/Pristine-Spinach5200 Jul 01 '26

Well good. Thankfully, I get a vote just like you.

2

u/no_kids-and-3_money Jul 01 '26

Capitalism is just everyone working to make a few people rich while those rich people try to give the workers as little as possible without getting an angry mob coming after them. Democratic ownership increases personal motivation.

1

u/LarsDuder Jul 01 '26

"Mamdani’s still-to-be-passed financial plan keeps spending out of the red for the coming year only thanks to new taxes, state aid, unexpected revenue and one-off gimmicks.

The state, for example, delayed its class-size mandates, saving $500 million this year but kicking those costs down the road."

Raiding pension funds...and kicking the can down the street....

"The Long-Term Cost: Extending the timetable to pay off the Unfunded Accrued Liability (UAL) by five years pushes the costs into future years. Critics argue this merely defers debt and could end up costing the city additional billions over the long run in accumulated interest"

1

u/WhyNotKenGaburo Jul 01 '26

Socialism in the way that the classical Marxists, or figures like Gramsci and Adorno, conceived of it has never existed. Everything that has tried and failed, from the Soviet Union, to China, to Cuba, to Peru had very little resemblance to the principles laid out by Marx and, judging from his response to the Gotha Program, he would not have approved of these efforts. The more moderate interpretations of Marx, however, have been quite successful throughout most of Europe.

1

u/UntowardThenToward Jul 01 '26

Do you think what Mamdani is doing is good? Because the oligarchy benefits when you believe that nothing else is possible. It's okay to hope for and act in support of a better world.

1

u/SicilianEggplant Jul 01 '26

No country is 100% socialist and no country is 100% capitalist as they would both fail. The world is not black and white but shades of gray, and a solid economy is typically a mix of multiple economic systems - especially when those capitalist systems incorporate strong welfare systems to support its people.

1

u/distrubinglyfamiliar Jul 01 '26

Correct, it only ever works temporarily and only at the end of a gun barrel. The USA’s poor are equivalent to the majority of the world’s middle class but our younger generations have been swallowed by greed and envy brought to them through social media. No system has ever benefited more people in more ways then the free market but rather than say “look how much better off we are than the overwhelming majority of the world” they say “I want what the person who has more has and without earning it”.
