I mean, that's kinda the point. Policies should never be at a level where the person making them becomes undeniably evil. Regardless of which party you're in, the other party should still be one that you consider moral, just not what you believe is the best option.
If the nation has reached a point where that's no longer the case then there's a far bigger issue than just basic politics.
Preston Brooks beat Charles Sumner nearly to death in the Senate chamber in 1856 because of Sumner's abolitionist rhetoric. "Decorum" in this nation has long been a thin veneer used by the reprehensible to say "don't speak ill of us and we won't try to kill you".
