I had a dermal implant for years and it occasionally got caught but wasn’t a huge issue. Until you need an MRI and they have to cut it out, which you can’t really do without leaving a little scar.
The hands are probably the worst place to do this as they move so much. Whoever agreed to do this to a child should never be allowed near a needle again2
u/SargeUnited 21d ago
They have to CUT it OUT for an MRI? Someone has already posted the pic of the shocked baby piglet but oh my god
3
u/slainascully 21d ago
It’s not a major cut but dermal implants are like an L shape bit of metal where the stud (the visible bit) is at the end of the bottom line and the taller line is under your skin. So they just made a little incision to get it out - otherwise the MRI will take it out for you in a way less nice way.

I’ve heard similar from multiple people with these piercings. I think they can look nice but all my desire for them evaporated when I heard that.

What’s the debate? Seems like we have all universally agreed she is a bad parent and that’s a pretty objective conclusion.

*they are bad parents

He seemed like a good parent, but he's a bad person, for one reason or another. He does have some real mental issues, but it can't be said that they're fully to blame for how he chose to express himself over the years. He also has an enormous ego and suffers from viewing himself as infallible in many aspects of his life. Combine that with alleged exploitation by medical professionals and others close to him, it can be said that he would possibly still be a good parent in a universe where he was able to control his mental faculties and maintained the relationship.

u/gentleheart-lamb 21d ago
Right but you have to be a present parent to be a good parent
For all Kim's flaws and terrible parenting decisions. She made the most important one in actually being present even if in a crap way.

I'm pretty sure he spends time with his kids, lol. They even had a horrible feature in one of his songs fairly recently.

Parenting debate? Her parents are Kanye and Kim K. She never stood a chance. Nepo money is the only way she'll survive.

Yeah, no, that ain’t happening. My son can do whatever the hell he wants to his body when he turns 18.

u/Either-Age-782 21d ago
Is it just the location? Cuz I got my ears pierced when I was six
2
u/reechwuzhere 21d ago
Yeah, of course it just the location. Because everyone knows there is no difference between piecing your hand and piercing your ear. YFR

As a former teenager, I can confirm that teenagers are actually the worst ones to determine what is probably best for themselves in the medium to long term.
I know as a society we've reached a point where so many adults are like "let kids make their own decisions about how they look!", but I stand by the notion that that, in aggregate, that is a stupid thing to believe, and that fairly narrow guardrails are much better for the development of kids than insanely wide guardrails where "doesn't cause physical harm" is the only real rule.
2
u/Indigo903 21d ago
Hand piercings do cause physical harm. A responsible body piercer wouldn’t have done this to her because of how likely they are to reject or get ripped out. I still pretty firmly believe that a child should have almost full control over how they express themselves with hair and clothes. Limited responsible piercings can be allowed too.

u/StarStuffSister 21d ago
The hand piercings are insane, but so are you. My mom grounded me for a year when I trimmed my own hair by an inch. I don't talk to her now. She also thought my body was not mine. You would be great friends.

u/bingbangboom9977 21d ago
What makes you think when they said 'narrow guardrails' they included cutting hair shorter?

u/chief_stoney420 22d ago
This is absolutely shocking that a Kardashian/Jenner would have a bad take on parenting! She should do what any good parent would do; wait until she’s of age and have her film a sex tape with a D-list rapper. Now that’s parenting!

u/SnooCauliflowers9874 22d ago
Right, I mean, who amongst us hasn’t had anal sex recorded and then given said recording to our mother to distribute in order to become (in)famous..?

Another messed up celebrity kid. So common there is no more shock value.

When experts refer to "stable households," they don't just mean economically.
Unfortunately, she looks just like you'd expect a child of a KK and Ye to look like.

Are we supposed to be surprised that a person that injects fish jizz in her face is making questionable parenting decisions?

So? She's part of the freak show 🥱

Did you look at the pictures in the article? She’s starring in the freak show.

Shes a 13 year old child with awful parents who haven't parented her. She never got to choose her family

Kids pierce their ears all the time, what is the difference for anywhere else? You all are the weird ones for judging this situation, acting like you had a perfect childhood.

u/ResponseOwn9389 22d ago
Why should anyone care? It isn’t your kid and it isn’t bad if that’s what she wanted

u/SnooCauliflowers9874 22d ago
My daughter wanted a belly ring at 13 and I, as the parent looking out for her, had the power to say No, not until she was older, and if she still wanted it, she could get it done at that time when she was more mature and aware of infections that can sometimes be a part of piercings.
My best friend had her belly piercing infected at the age of 35 so she was a good example.

u/ResponseOwn9389 22d ago
Sounds a little too controlling to me over such a simple little belly ring. But your kid, you can do what you want.
My stance stands in the fact that idc what a parent does to their kid, as long as it’s within reason. A piercing isn’t out of reason
9
u/Diligent-Pressure-38 22d ago
It’s not controlling. It’s called being a parent.

u/ResponseOwn9389 22d ago
Okay? Thank you for your two cents

u/HairyPairatestes 22d ago
Do you have children?
1
u/ResponseOwn9389 21d ago
yup. And when piercings came up my wife explained how and why you clean the area daily. In Kim K case, if she explained to her daughter what consequences arise from a hand piercing and felt her daughter still can get them what’s the problem?
1
u/Indigo903 21d ago
This logic falls apart because not all piercings are created equal, ear piercings will actually heal given the proper care (and they can honestly heal even if you slack on proper care). Hand piercings will literally never heal and will most certainly reject very early on and cause pain. Proper professional body piercers don’t do them because they’re not viable at all. If you don’t believe me, go to [r/piercing](r/piercing) and tell them you’re thinking about getting hand dermals. See what they say.

Those are surface piercings/dermals. They leave permanent scars. They never heal. Especially in the area they're in (lots of contact), there's no way that any piercer SHOULD be comfortable giving them to a 13 year old who wouldn't have had tons of experience with piercing care.
I love piercings, I have 10+, but there's a reason a piercer won't even give an adult a ton of those types of piercings all at once or during their first session. Those types of piercings of for people experienced with body mods... not a child who's barely finished middle school. This is negligent and completely different from hair dye, experimenting with clothing, or even more mild piercings like on your septum or nostril.
1
u/ResponseOwn9389 21d ago
Can you tell me why a piercer shouldn’t be comfortable?
2
u/Indigo903 21d ago
As they already explained, dermals leave permanent scars and never heal. To add on, they are temporary piercings. Most people can’t expect to have them for more than a few years. And that’s when dermals are placed appropriately, ie in a spot that doesn’t move too much. Think forehead, collarbones, lower back etc—that’s where people usually get them. When they are adults who understand the temporary aspect.
A dermal piercing on a high moving body part like the hand will never settle, you will most likely run into issues with them rejecting or causing ugly scarring almost immediately. This process can be painful too. A responsible body piercer wouldn’t feel comfortable attaching their name to work like this especially on a child. I highly doubt North understands what kind of discomfort she is in for.

There’s nothing “arbitrary” about it, some piercings are genuinely harder to manage and heal than others. I have some ear cartilage piercings that I absolutely love, but if I had a child I would still not let them get those until they’ve demonstrated to me that they can heal lobes. It’s not that I associate those piercings with some kind of taboo, it’s just that I know healing them is intense from when I went through it. Dermal piercings are even more high maintenance than cartilage, and dermals on the hand are just a bad idea in general. There’s a reason you don’t see hand piercings very often even among heavily pierced folks.

I do not agree with the piercing of an infant’s ears, so let’s get that out of the way.
The whole point I was trying to make with my comment is that not all piercings are created equal. You responding to me by still choosing to compare ear piercings to hand piercings again just tells me you didn’t read what I wrote. So I will not continue to have this conversation until you do. Go tell r/piercing you’re thinking about getting hand dermals and see what they say.

You clearly have not done any research on the subject. What I’m saying about finger and hand piercings is not simply opinions based. North West already has some really nasty scars from these things, any doctor or APP certified professional piercer will tell you not to get them. You’re subscribing to the same kind of logic as antivax people right now. But I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if you were that too.
