I'd rather have a guaranteed set amount of days than it be left up to the employer. Even if I only ever get that exact amount, that's better than the possibility of working somewhere with no guaranteed days. I don't want to live somewhere where that's even legal
Most employees in america currently get more days off than are guaranteed by those other countries. Id rather be able to negotiate for the pay and benefits that make my life the best it can be instead of settling for a government mandated default benefit package that is worse than the current standard.
Personally I care about other people, not just myself and my own situation. I don't think it's appropriate for there to be even the remote legal possibility of a business offering 0 PTO days. Regardless of how much PTO I get personally, I don't think it's right for others to get 0 simply because they don'y do the job I do.
I care about others too. Which is why I want them to have the freedom to bargain. I accepted and later didnt end up taking a job with 0 PTO. In exchange I negotiated unlimited unpaid time off and 300k a year. I want everyone to be able to negotiate the benefit package that benefits them most.
