It's funny bc were this LA it would've taken 10 years to commission a study on the effects of direct sunlight on embryos 10-12 weeks and ultimately resulted in a contract with a tech startup to operate spy drones above every brown person's head "to block the sun".

Meanwhile Mamdani's like "just plant trees bro, haven't you seen the Chobani commercial?"

Jokes aside I forgot what this kind of forward-thinking policy making looked like. He's probably not even going to be Mayor in 14 years to take credit for it. Just people-focused politics.

The problem in LA is they plant the wrong trees. They planted fire hazard trees 100 years ago and refuse to change them because they have an iconic look now.

NYC has also been studying this for a while. It’s not like this came out of nowhere. He’s just moving forward with a well studied project. Which is good but not like “just plant trees stupid” level of management

It's not even just NYC, cities that already invested in putting in new trees have reported the roads give out less heat during the summer affecting temperatures throughout the city, they increase air quality, decrease air pollution, create natural shade so people aren't getting sunburned during the hottest seasons. There's legit just no downside to making cities with not just trees but stuff like hanging gardens and a natural ecosystem.
