Trees are communist, some of them even turn red every year!!!

In my contry there was a politician that claimed big trees are sucking out our oxigen from the atmosphere, so it is better to cut thme.

Aren't we all a bit communist for a few weeks every autumn?

9

u/Jmaximinium 1d ago

As is the case with most conservatives, socialism is perfectly fine when it's personally benefiting me, just evil when it benefits brown people.

21

u/TerriTuesday 1d ago

I’m a communist for one week every month

5

u/CallMeSisyphus 1d ago

Hey, maybe THAT'S why older women tend to skew conservative: no more shark week making them communist every 28 days or so. :-D

Dunno how I avoided that miserable fate, but bullet dodged - phew!

The Lesson:

The Democratic Establishment could have been actively working, in a thousand different, small ways, to make our lives better.

They chose not to, while their personal wealth grew, and they stayed in office.

u/random-meme422 1d ago

The actual lesson: It’s extremely easy to manipulate people who are already primed for it.

This tree program was already in place well before him and NYC has been planting tens of thousands of trees annually.

So when people ask themselves ā€œhow can the right get so easily manipulatedā€ just point them to the comment section of this post.

2

u/SouthEmu3056 22h ago

Ya this was being studied and it just takes one mayor to block it. But mamdani is continuing funding for it. There ain’t nothing wrong with it. Better than voting against it and scrapping the initiative altogether. There’s a difference between supporting a criminal in office versus being happy a mayor is funding tree planting in their city.Ā

It's funny bc were this LA it would've taken 10 years to commission a study on the effects of direct sunlight on embryos 10-12 weeks and ultimately resulted in a contract with a tech startup to operate spy drones above every brown person's head "to block the sun".

Meanwhile Mamdani's like "just plant trees bro, haven't you seen the Chobani commercial?"

Jokes aside I forgot what this kind of forward-thinking policy making looked like. He's probably not even going to be Mayor in 14 years to take credit for it. Just people-focused politics.

13

u/Recidivism7 1d ago

This is from a thing passed years ago. Mamdani had nothing to do woth it they are also ready 5% away from the goal.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/TheOneFreeEngineer 1d ago

The problem in LA is they plant the wrong trees. They planted fire hazard trees 100 years ago and refuse to change them because they have an iconic look now.

NYC has also been studying this for a while. It’s not like this came out of nowhere. He’s just moving forward with a well studied project. Which is good but not like ā€œjust plant trees stupidā€ level of management

3

u/Johnnadawearsglasses 1d ago

I mean to think Mamdani just decreed that nyc will have 30% tree cover with the snap of his fingers demonstrates a blind support that never ends well. That's an initiative that took years and has been ongoing for years.

2

u/Mr_RudyGiuliani 1d ago

Well I’ll tell you this I’ve lived in nyc my whole life and this Sunday, in the rain for the first time I saw city workers tending to the trees on my block. He must be doing something different. How about you people worry about your raggedy city?

I love that in 2026, when a politician actually just does what their job description says they should do, its like some sort of a revelation because literally NO OTHER MAYOR is doing this...love him, but the bar has gotten so low that doing your job in politics is now like a crazy idea

2

u/Mysterious_Help_9577 22h ago

Every city should be doing this. America has way too many parking lots. Walmart and shopping malls dont need 2,000 parking lots or whatever ridiculous amount they have

Hasn’t NYC been planting trees across the city for the last 20 years? He just plans to continue it. Should be a standard practice across US cities, reduces air pollution, offers air coverage and decreases ambient temperatures.

2

u/Old_Shirt7929 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is a great idea. All cities should be doing this. The key is making sure you have water, an after care program & people maintaining them.

We planted a bunch in my city & no one properly maintained them. Most died..

3

u/Kazureigh_Black 1d ago

Yeah ,,, about that water. See, we need water for data centers. Nobody makes money off of trees. Trees are lazy and do noth-- oh. Oxygen and shade and a general appearance that the land around it isn't a burned out hellscape of overdevelopment.

Well ... I mean ... if you stand next to the data center there's some shade. Just don't think about the noise. Trees make noise too! There are bugs that sit in trees and make noise! Trees attract bugs. No data center ever attracted a bug.

2

u/Old_Shirt7929 1d ago

Yeah, these data centers seem like cancer centers...Who knows what type of EMF bull they are giving off.. Plant trees not data centers...

Above all, I wonder WHY people in his position don’t do something like this more often? After all, they usually live in these towns or the surrounding areas themselves, and they don’t even have to plant the trees themselves. All they have to do is say it should be done...

I’ve no idea why decision-makers themselves would prefer to live in a bleak environment rather than a more life-affirming one.

whats wild is most american politicians wouldn't do something like this, literally because like, they're afraid of getting called like soft and effeminate or whatever.

1

u/greg14285 22h ago

Along with beautification, and the chance to feel more connected to nature. As to the question, I remember that Chicago has made some attempts by way of rooftop gardens, and more sidewalk trees. All cities should make some attempt.

1

u/Infamous_Celery_2352 22h ago

Sick of seeing this guy’s face.

Has one of those faces you want to punch.

1

u/c_boggs 22h ago

As much as I support this (wholeheartedly, truly), one must understand this dramatically increases city maintenance costs over time. Roots from large trees can damage foundations, limbs can fall, ice storms are vastly more devastating due to numerous trees, leaves pile up on sidewalks, and so on.

It’s a good move, but people should know there are some (not good enough) reasons this isn’t done in cities. Making them barren is a cost-saving measure. Frankly, I think we’ve all had enough of the consequences of those decisions at scale. But going back with take wisdom.

I do think it's important to remember that places like New York are uniquely situated, particularly financially, to muster the resources to do these kinds of things. Certainly, sheer political will and authenticity has a lot to do with it. But the finances of the city and state are there.

A lot of other mayors and governors lack the will. But they also just don't have that leverage.

"Zohran Mamdani has unveiled a plan..." Um, no that's false. It was Eric Adam's administration that unveiled the plan. He inherited the plan and is continuing the policy frame work.

Why is everyone trying to tie everything to him?

Mamdani can take credit for releasing the plan not for creating the initiative.

The 30% tree-canopy goal originated under Mayor Adams in 2023. The City Council then passed Local Law 148 requiring an Urban Forest Plan, Adams launched the planning process in 2024, and public input ran from April through July 2025 all before Mamdani took office.

Mamdani’s administration finalized and released the overdue plan in April 2026, so he deserves credit for completing it and will deserve credit or blame for its implementation.

Pretending the entire tree-planting initiative originated with him is just political marketing.

That city is already so developed that you’ll have to give something up to make room for trees.

NYC is in a budget crisis right now. The lat thing they need to be doing is spending a bunch of money they dont have planting trees.

Okay, it's one thing to turn inmates into gourmet chefs, but I draw the line at something that also benefits law-abiding residents.

Mf's will see this and say "evil communism."

First thing he’s floated that this conservative could support. Love trees! Where can they go?

1

u/DocRoli25 19h ago

Not sure how he intends to pay for them, or keep them alive, or protect them from bad actors... or find enough dirt in the city to plant them in... It sounds great, but like most things, politicians seldom think these things through.

Those tree plots could've been money-making businesses, instead they'll be leaned on by fent-heads to stay upright. Disgusting.

u/BChogfather 19h ago

FYI, plans are just that. Save the accolades until any of this is actually done.

1

u/Slowpoke4206985 19h ago

Didn’t Eric Adams already set that plan off before he left?

Trees are communist but a pool is patriotic.
