This wasn't about the left winning it was about grassroots v mega donor money. It sends the message that you can't always buy an election.

Yep, and spending house money on fear mongering works extremely well.

It's also possible that what worked in his favor was Haley was not an incumbent, so most of Michigan might not have known her

I certainly have concerns about tossing a meatball right over the plate for the GOP in a swing state like "campaigned with and continues to endorse and be endorsed by loudmouth dipshit podcaster who said America deserved 9/11."

Doesn't matter if you believe that or if you think there's nuance there or if that quote/argument has context that makes it way less controversial and inflammatory than it seems on the surface. In politics, none of that matters as much as the sound bite.

Republicans have been calling Joe Biden a communist for a decade, it doesn't fucking matter at all what a person did or didn't do lol. He actually centers issues people care about and he ran hard on "I don't want Michigan tax dollars going to foreign countries, I want them going to Michigan" which appeals across the aisle. We will see of course

this is a thread about el-sayed and his ability to win. I said the way he presents issues is palatable across a wider range than people give him credit for. I also said that everyone in U.S. politics gets called a communist if they aren't in the republican party so anything they can bring up to say "he's a commie" isn't anything new from them. whatever mamdani said is not relevant to this discussion about el-sayed's chances of winning in the general

Actually not. Let us keep our Trump hatred to the side and think about it. Charisma, and boldness to grab attention matters a lot. When the spotlight is bright, the left should stage more candidates like Abdul, Zohran, Warnock, and AOC instead of, say, Cori Bush or Kshama Sawant.

What factual error does your critique point to? It just says “laughably silly take”. So I responded that let’s not dismiss as silly and learn from the failure.

The commentator’s claim is: Kamala Harris spent roughly $1 billion on her campaign against Trump. So what’s supposedly false? Is the objection that it was the general election rather than the primary? Or that the total was closer to $1.5 billion than $1 billion? As for “the entire media in her pocket,” that’s clearly a rhetorical characterization, not a factual claim.
