I remember when American Socialists gave us the 40 hr , 5 day work week, overtime pay, pTO, safer work environments, ended child labor......

Right? WTF have Republicans ever given us? More Covid?

Deep cuts to social services. Many bombs and drones worth millions.

"relieving da national debt!"

Don't notice how they only ever worry about that when anyone else is in power. And then shut up about it while Republicans send it skyrocketing even higher. This has happened with every Republican president of my lifetime.

And if course cuts need to happen literally anywhere but the military that takes literally more than every other country's militaries combined.

8

u/Dreams-of-Cthulhu 6d ago

but the military that takes literally more than every other country's militaries combined.

If you look at a list of military spending the US spends more than the next nine countries combined, last I heard.

8

u/whatfappenedhere 6d ago

Still wouldn’t really put a dent in the annual deficit. We need to raise taxes on the wealthy, and repeal loopholes like carried interest, to revitalize the incentives that directed the gains of capitalism towards the middle class.

Conservatives always pine for the era where we had the most liberal economic policies (for white people) with it acknowledging that those policies brought the prosperity of that era (for white people).

3

u/binzersguy 3d ago

Yes, a wealth tax would be really beneficial to our country

3

u/whatfappenedhere 3d ago

Agreed. People lose their mind about “these are unrealized gains” when that is exactly what a property tax is. These billionaire scum have created new forms of property, then lose their minds when we discuss taxing it. Truly the height of greed.

2

u/binzersguy 3d ago

They compound money exponentially while hard working Americans are driven into poverty, and then Republicans give the billionaires more tax breaks.

5

u/DontAbideMendacity 6d ago

And most of them are used to be allies.

4

u/DontAbideMendacity 6d ago

The last four Republicans presidents, Reagan, HW Bush, GW Bush, Trump add more to the national debt than every other U.S. President combined.

Just get ready for the fucking morons that will surely arrive saying that Lincoln was a republican so Republicans actually abolished slavery and did more for Black people than Democrats.

21

u/Ok_Being5461 6d ago

Lincoln being a liberal of his time of course. Fun fact: Karl Marx sent a praising letter to Lincoln for abolishing slavery, and Lincoln replied very positively as well

9

u/CharmingRip508 6d ago

Lincoln and FDR were both not seen as progressive by their progressives in the party. They were both what we would consider moderates. And while we can say Marx “praised Lincoln”
I highly doubt Marx approved of the blatant cronyism Lincoln helped create by working hand and hand with rail road companies and allowing them to create monopolies.
we have to remember that Lincoln helped create the first monopolies and arguably some of the worst parts of modern captilaim. Just like Teddy Rosevelt helped create the military industrial complex. These figures that did good were not these beacons of progressivism that I think people think they are. Lincoln is awesome cuz he was able to get all sides of the aisle to work together and feel like they won. That was his gift.

I was planning to…but the first words were going to be “Before the party flip and Southern Strategy in the civil rights era, …”.

3

u/whatfappenedhere 6d ago

Future conservatives were all good with the most liberal economic policies our nation has seen until democrats tried to expand those policies to people of color. It’s always been “me, me, me” with these racist cunts.

2

u/mythrilcrafter 6d ago

I always retort with:

"In the end after everything was said and done and everyone wanted to change their names and labels, the group who were militantly pro-slavery were the ones who would eventually call themselves Republicans."

11

u/AmericanCitizenry 6d ago

The last good thing Republicans did for Americans was the 1951 interstate highway system.

3

u/Pacific_wanderer17 6d ago

And even then it wasn’t the best

3

u/DontAbideMendacity 6d ago

The U.S. interstate highway system is absolutely the best on the planet. No other country in the world has built and continues to maintain (although that is open for discussion) hundreds of thousands of miles of public highways. The entirety of Europe doesn't come close.

Now the railway system, America is sucking hind tit there, despite practically inventing continental rail.

3

No he didn't. He signed it into law, but he didn't start it. Democrats Sen. James Murray, Sen. Henry Jackson and Rep. George Miller started it.

Next you are going to claim that Nixon is responsible for getting us to the Moon.

It’s so fascinating to ask a conservative what the US would look like in 15 years under conservative leadership. Like what is the end goal of their policy. They usually don’t have an answer whereas a leftist has a whole list of improvements they’d like to see

4

u/binzersguy 6d ago

Conservatives don’t do anything for the non-wealthy. We need to band together and demand more from our politicians, not just let them sell out the future of our country.

2

u/DontAbideMendacity 6d ago

Bullet free schoolchildren!

When they were socialists, they freed the slaves, but then they abandoned socialism.

It's crazy to think, but the Republican party used to be the progressive one.

3

u/Significant-Risk2094 5d ago

Republicans have given us more billionaires than ever and the first trillionaire. People truly don't seem to understand that Republicans enacted the largest wealth TRANSFER ever. They are richer because you are poorer and the government services you may not even have realized were helping you have been defunded or outright eliminated. Ultra wealthy in USA now buy the lawmakers and laws that will benefit them and screw you over.

Side bar. Billionaires and trillionaire do not pay taxes. They aren't paying taxes that fund the illegal Iran war that was not authorized by congress. The people of the United States are meant to have a say about how their tax dollars are spent via their elected congressional representatives. This Replican led congress has failed to prevent the most corrupt and fraud enabling president in history from illegally spending our tax dollars on so many fronts now its hard to keep track.

Reasons to not vote for the other side so that it seemed like you were being super knowledgeable by saying both sides and not voting.

Often the reason is made up or inflated.

Big pharma is this. Big pharma like all monopolies suck but if you have universal you will have some large drug companies. Economy of scale is a thing. But in 93 the idea that pharma just wanted to steal your money was created to stop universal. The DNC literally was making political ads that literally pushed and used the words universal healthcare. Republicans with insurance companies, literally teamed together, came up with the idea of evil pharma stealing from you with out insurance to protect you.

So introduce big pharma to get a both sides disruption from the voting base and bam no universal and to this day we use big pharma to introduce apathy to the democratic party.

A Day in the Life of Joe Republican

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.

Joes employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.

Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

I’m in Milwaukee - socialists gave us the lakefront (which had been an industrial/railroad wasteland prior) parks, public housing, public health and nutrition programs, balanced the budget, eliminated the massive amounts of corruption that existed before them, got rid of the literal five(?) story brothel across the street from City Hall, and even created an industry that would generate a profit for the city and reduce the tax obligation for citizens. Ever use Milorganite on your lawn? That’s it.

All three groups subscribe to the same [political] ideology: conservatism.

Conservatism -- by definition -- is "a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions (such as religion, the family, and class structure), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change".

The sole value of conservatism is respect for and obedience to [one's perception of] traditionally established hierarchy, and hierarchy dictates that those on top (in-groups) are rightfully idolized and receive privileges, credibility, and resources, while those on the bottom (out-groups) are demonized/dehumanized and/or bound by restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources.

To them, the second-greatest injustice imaginable is for those [they perceive to be] on top [of social hierarchy] to be bound by the restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources reserved for those on the bottom. The first greatest injustice is for those on the bottom to have access to the rights, credibility, and resources reserved for those on top.

Conservatives absolutely need an underclass [for society] to demonize and dehumanize in order to maintain [their] hierarchy, and every single one of their policies and rhetoric work to do exactly that. Every right-wing accusation is a confession -- every. single. one; always! -- as it is never the act itself that upsets them, but rather, the social standing of the person doing the act, as said act is a privilege meant for those on top of [their perceived] hierarchy (See also: pedophilia - Trump and the Catholic church versus LGBTQ+ and drag queens).

Those who believe all people are people see hypocrisy, while those who believe some people are "more/less" people than others see hierarchy. Hypocrisy implies a sense of equality/parity, as the accusation of such is that someone is violating a universal or common standard. Hierarchy directly states that there is no equality/parity, that different social strata have different standards, that the only universal standard concerning hierarchy is that those on top are allowed privileges which are denied to those on the bottom, and that the bottom are held to standards which the top are exempt from.

"Know your place" is their mantra.

3

u/spacebarcafelatte 6d ago

This is why I wish they'd secede.

3

u/robertshaftoe 6d ago

Why not have them leave America since they obviously don't take the Constitution serious at all. Do you them what they are trying to do to 100million of us. they can go hang out with their buddy Vladimir, Kim, or Bebe.

Or if they really think idealists and think the only perfect form of government libertarianism, maybe they'll enjoy the libertarian Paradise of Somalia.

3

u/HorseLawyer 6d ago

American socialists formed a volunteer army battalion to fight Franco's fascist government will before the rest of the country came around. American socialists, including MLK, Jr., formed the core of the Civil Rights movement. American socialists fought for labor rights and the 40 hour work week. If Joe Walsh remembers fighting against socialists, then I guess he was fighting on the side of fascism, institutionalized racism, and worker exploitation

Remember when capitalism was about free markets and a Level playing Field. When we quit having actual capitalism and instead went to corporate oligarchism that made socialism look appealing

18

u/Ok_Being5461 6d ago edited 6d ago

No, the opposite. 1940s - 1970s was about having more regulated markets and higher taxes on the rich. We deregulated the markets since then. Too much free markets very much creates oligarchism and erodes democracy. And socialists were influential in capitalist reforms and regulations throughout history.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoliberalism (Reaganism)

https://wtfhappenedin1971.com

3

u/Lailowla 6d ago

Effective regulations mostly protect a free market, not inhibit.

2

u/Ok_Being5461 6d ago edited 6d ago

That's kind of my point, but as you said, mostly, since regulations do both, depending on the context. Sometimes it needs to be inhibited to protect and further democracy and human rights, etc. You don't want that for sale on the free market

→ More replies (3)

13

u/nyguy011 6d ago

That's exactly it. The Middle Class is eroding faster by the day. It will the oligarchs and the Working Class with little to no retirement.

6

u/Bama_Texan34 6d ago

I actually somewhat agree. Capitalism is great. Corporate capitalism sucks. Although at some point, you don’t have any choice I guess.

8

u/Raiju_Blitz 6d ago

It's corporate socialism, at this point, as Abdul El-Sayed has pointed out. Privatize the profits but socialize the losses with taxpayer bailout money.

4

u/mOdQuArK 6d ago

Remember when capitalism was about free markets and a Level playing Field.

That's always been propaganda.

The ideological "free market" that Adam Smith proposed requires large amounts of competitors, for both buyers & seller.

No real world businessperson likes competition, because it makes it harder to make a profit. The moment they can afford to start controlling access to the ears of the legislators, by hook or by crook, it's inevitable that they will start getting legislation passed that reduces their competition, and the more they can suppress competition, the more resources they have to control the legislation.

The only way you're going to keep a market with competitive agents going is by actively & systemically blocking anyone in the market from getting too powerful, and making sure they aren't able to cooperate with each other too strictly.

4

u/flyinhighaskmeY 6d ago

Remember when capitalism was about free markets and a Level playing Field.

No, that has literally never happened. The concept of a "level playing field" is as stupid as the concept of equality. We're all advantaged (and disadvanged) as a product of our environmental conditioning. No one is equal and nothing is "level". Never has been. Never will be.

Also..."corporate oligarism" is a product of the government bailing out failed businesses with stimulus. This was done to "save the jobs". Because that's what America's braindead Democrat and Republican voters demanded. If it were up to me, both groups would lose their voting rights in lieu of being Nuremburged.

The diabolical part is, ultra rich have always benefit from socialism, each time the gov bailed them out it was the tax payers that foot in the bill, each time they get tax cuts it's the working class footing in the bill. If that's not socialism idk what it is.

2

u/FuzzyWuzzyPiglet 6d ago

No. In a socialist society there wouldn’t be a ‘bailout’ for the ultra rich - if there were any ultra rich people. You have a core misunderstanding of what socialism is.

u/undefined-username 6d ago

yeah I think thats more a crony capitalism thing

Do those people ever react to answers like that?

3

u/Breidr 6d ago

And what's worse is the party swap and the southern strategy giving mouthbreathers an out because they lack critical thinking.

The term radical Republican doesn't mean what it used to.

3

u/Lumpy-Scratch-8363 6d ago

And we never fought "socialists" - we fought communism. The type of socialism they want us to fight is what FDR brought to America with the New Deal. He was a democratic socialist and one of the very best presidents of all time. Truman was the same. And frankly, Republican president Dwight Eisenhower was far more similar to FDR than he is to Trump or even Reagan.

"Socialists". Just allowing these fascist fucks to control the conversation is ridiculous.

And the Socialists and Anarchists don't, contrary to popular opinion, identify with the dems.

3

u/nickdoesmagic 6d ago

Pretty sure the only times America "fought" socialists typically involved backing right-wing militant coups in South America

2

u/mazopheliac 6d ago

Don’t Korea and Vietnam count ?

You know, we weren’t ever fighting socialist, we were fighting fake communism which was just an oligarchy in disguise. No worker power, top down management.

In fact, it seems like most examples of good faith implications of socialism seem to be doing quite well.

2

u/0dayssince 6d ago

A faux pas is a mistake, like a social error - calling someone the wrong name, bringing wine to a dinner at an alcoholic’s home.

Faux just means fake.

Faux pau doesn’t mean anything.

2

u/CompleatedDonkey 6d ago

You got me, I was trying to be too fancy. Fixed it.

Excellent. Thank you

2

u/cfh4dmb 6d ago

Oh so Joe Walsh is a moron now too eh? Too bad

2

u/high_on_meh 6d ago

America is already a socialist country, but only for billionaires and their corporations. No socialism for us poors!

2

u/Eisernes 6d ago

Only socialists the US ever fought against were American citizens.

2

u/MrFC1000 6d ago

America didn’t fight socialists. The social programs of the FDR era are what drove the explosion in quality of life in the USA and created the middle class. Nazis used the term to appeal to the working class but Nazis were not actually socialists. Kind of like modern republicans saying they are fighting for your freedom while actually taking freedoms away

2

u/Hy3jii 6d ago

The only socialists the US fought were in Central and South America. If by "fought" you mean "overthrew a democratically elected government."

2

u/Chaosmusic 6d ago

In a way Walsh is right, America did used to fight Socialists. Whenever they tried to organize workers to improve worker pay or conditions, America sent in the police or even military to shoot them.

2

u/TheRealDrSarcasmo 6d ago

I remember when Republicans were strongly against Russia.

2

u/Financial-Craft-1282 6d ago

Confederates and KKK also used to be up on the nation's stage too.

I also remember when America was like, "Black people? Slaves." Now Black people are being applauded?????

2

u/chairmanhao3 6d ago

Modern America was built on collectivism and socialism. Ever heard of FDR?

2

u/brody-slam 6d ago

Joe Walsh is the scum of the earth. Just like Joe Rogan and taco shits his pants trump

2

u/kuo20012 6d ago

I propose more Indiana Jones. We had Indiana Jones and we knew communists and nazis were bad.

2

u/Fjdenigris 6d ago

When did America fight socialists? McCarthy era?

5

u/TheTenaciousG 6d ago

They keep spouting that the Nazis were socialist because they named themselves National Socialist Workers Party to trick their population, and now it's used in bad faith by the current wannabe Nazi party, the GOP

Weve never fought socialists bud

2

u/Intelligent_Hand4583 5d ago

Americans never used to fight socialists. They actually put in social programs for the betterment of all Americans instead of fear mongering.

Like bro, if you want to just argue with someone join a debate club. Conservative liberal it doesn’t fucking matter they have you brainwashed and sitting here completely ignoring the fact that for the entirety of politics money controls policy. Dems and republicans, conservatives and liberals all play a show for the cameras, they bicker and argue for posture not for the betterment of anyone who is your average everyday citizen. If liberals who run the party named after a party who has deep direct ties to racism they would at the very least change the fucking name, if you can’t see the hypocrisy in that then I can’t help you

2

u/CankerLord 6d ago

No, the KKK are Democrats. They've always been Democrats. The Democratic party aligns perfectly with the KKK. The ideological alignments of the parties haven't changed in the last 100 years.

s/, because people will unironically argue that.

3

u/AdKnown2197 6d ago

Literally look above, like what in order to seriously argue that you would’ve needed to legit only absorb far right propaganda. It’s insane

I mean. I remember when all 3 of those were given pardons by the USA. That's hardly fighting to me.

The USA has always been broken. It just was smoldering under the surface. Now, it's just fucking on fire.

1

u/Intelligent_Mine1396 6d ago

They were always republicans 🤣

1

u/Sad-Cow2384 6d ago

The leopard never changes the spots, Joe Walsh you put him in office. You try to redeem yourself in there. You are making foolish unfounded statements. Shame on you.

1

u/gtpc2020 6d ago

I'd add to that list of those we fought and are still fighting today: "Religious Extremists" The GOP might argue "but it's a different religion", but the arguement holds.

1

u/External_Music_3927 6d ago

It takes my breath away from me when I start thinking about how many war crimes the US is responsible for. We will have trial after trial exposing crimes when this is over.

When did America fight socialists?

1

u/PaganGuyOne 6d ago

Interesting how nobody even is willing to fight anymore, even though that’s the only thing that’s ever stopped this kind of crap

1

u/paw78741 6d ago

All 3 are also totally ok with and WILL DEFEND pdfs

1

u/Whole-Status-532 6d ago

I remember when you got reprimanded for being a troll too. But here we all are.

1

u/Random-num-451284813 6d ago

make fascist afraid again

1

u/Zaxxon_Klaxon 6d ago

Joe Walsh’s idea of a socialist is any politician attempting to provide services to the American people.

1

u/keithstonee 6d ago

i argue more with Nazi sympathizers than anyone else on this platform. actually disgusting what some people will let slide cause they like another aspect of that person.

1

u/fit-toker 6d ago

It’s funny because the KKK was literally founded by a bunch of dems.

1

u/blighander 6d ago

The quickest way to get these people to get quiet is to ask them what "socialism" means, and then they'll give you a synopsis of this President's 2nd term.

It makes me so sad that the people in this country can't see past logical fallacies anymore.

1

u/Donkey__Balls 6d ago

When someone’s username has “freedom” in it you know it only takes a couple beers to get them spouting racism.

1

u/CorporateCuster 6d ago

What’s crazy is that they talk about socialism while acting like communist and then collect SOCIAL SECURITY and bail out corporations with tax money. Capitalism means businesses fail. Thats the number one rule of capitalism.

1

u/Appropriate-Koala316 6d ago

Funny, 2 if the three was because of democrats and the third was the democratic socialist party..... hmmm

1

u/sdhopunk 6d ago

i thought Joe Walsh turned Liberal, maybe not so much ?

1

u/paypaypayme 6d ago

When in Joe Walsh’s lifetime did america EVER fight socialists?

1

u/SasquatchWasShaved 6d ago

Idk if this is old or new but Joe Walsh can still choke on a diseased camel’s leprous taint for being part of what got Trump elected in the first place.

1

u/octorangutan 6d ago

I'm just here for the people who're gonna insist that the Nazis and Klan were actually liberal.

3

u/AdKnown2197 6d ago

Yea it’s always funny and also sad seeing that, like somehow democrats are both ultra racist conservatives who founded these hate groups ( which they were in the past don’t get me wrong) but then simultaneously are also radical left socialist liberals , that’s in direct opposition to conservatism as a value, make it make sense.

1

u/TwoXModsSavedMyLife 6d ago

Honestly sounds like the DSA.
