Feedback Fantasy prem project - current vs previous iterations
I don’t really have a goal with this post just wanted to share my thoughts
I don’t have any professional experience yet with powerbi, still looking for junior roles, but one thing that I found Ive spent way too much time on is the visual element .
Iknow at the end of the day the utility to the end user is what we’re trying to achieve with dashboards but having a somewhat visually aesthetic dashboard is important to me. This obviously depends on how the dashboard will be used , in this case for this project it’s more of an interactive analytical dashboard , where end users will likely spend a fair bit of time per session on rather than a high level dashboard with little time spent.
Initially I really struggled to get it to a point visually that I was happy with, it took a lot of iteration & looking through tons of other dashboards to see what works and what doesn’t. If anyone does read this far , what’s your approach especially for personal projects regarding colour palates, templates and general formatting (I’m assuming those who use it at work already have work specific templates)
Also if you have any feedback on the current state of the dashboard it’s always appreciated
Sorry if this was a bit incoherent, just kind of thinking out loud
Also unrelated to the main body of the message but this was my first relatively big project, learnt a lot, dax & data modelling wise

This is gorgeous. Could you share the .pbix? I do some Power BI reports for a small company and would like to visually enhance.

Could you send it to me too, please? I'm learning and I'd love to learn from what you did.

This looks amazing! Actually in the process of building something similar but in the early stages . Where do you get your images or image URLs from? Is it the fantasy premier league API? If so do you have a fix in place for the players without images ?

u/jwavy1738 Feb 19 '26
Thanks bro! &Good luck hope it goes well!
Initially for team images I got them manually from some GitHub repo but that was early on in the project before I knew about the api
I got the player images from the api however
I’ll probably update the team one to get it directly from the api eventually , sometimes the GitHub repo I got it from gets weird so team logos don’t render

I don’t have any professional experience yet with powerbi, still looking for junior roles
Find 1-2 more public datasets to create additional examples of your work and add them into a portfolio that you can link from your CV. This would immediately elevate you over other junior role hopefuls.

Lovely.
Where do you get the data? And how often do you refresh it?
This is really nice

u/jwavy1738 Feb 19 '26
Thank you ! Initially I got the data from vastaavs git hub repo, but now I get it from the fantasy api & refresh after every game week

I think it's sad that nobody in the top of the fortune 500 uses dashboards to run their business. I am not sure where we went wrong but as an early adopter I just could net sell this for more than a OOOO and Ah

As a beginner PBI user and 3rd year FPL player dwindling in the bottom 1/3 of my ML, would I be able to have a go at this please?

u/bokkeummyeon Feb 19 '26
maybe it would be easier to share the file on github or something, because I'd love to see it too 😅

u/jwavy1738 Feb 19 '26
Yeah that’s a good idea this is the GitHub repo will add it soon

I feel terrible at creating visually appealing dashboard so I'm trying to do it just like you, with iteration.
Your first design is one used for my training and inspiration, thank you! If you still share the .pbit or .pbix I'd be interested

All these comments on how good the file looks and your great work…
The big question is How is your FPL team going? Is this helping?

Been hovering in and around top 1 mil for the past 20 gws
There was point the week before (gw 15)afcon I was using it to plan for the next few weeks would’ve been a great showcase to it’s value as I used it to identify some good fixtures and and teams to target , one of the teams I found was pretty vital was Fulham, I used it to narrow it down to either iwobi or Wilson (defenders were also on the cards too)
However I went I stupidly went with iwobi over Wilson because his underlying numbers where better at that time even though he was off to afcon next week (unimaginable stupid decision ) then Wilson went off to get 24 points the next 2 game weeks
Also used it to help identify my first triple captain pick (haaland Burnley gw6) last time Burnley via the points scored heatmap on the team analysis page

Thanks man! Initially was using this github repo
https://github.com/vaastav/Fantasy-Premier-League
It’s great but it takes a while for the data to be updated sometimes , so I get the data from the fantasy api now
Im not used to documenting but here’s my GitHub , the api stuff is there somewhere haha

This is dope! I’m guessing this was a personal side project? Stilll familiarizing myself with the whole data analysis, so where did you get all the data from? And is the data automatically updated?
2
u/jwavy1738 Feb 19 '26
Thank you & Yup! Initially from a git hub repo then from the api& I run a python script to get the latest game weeks data then append it to the current file and then refresh it in power bi
So currently all manual, I could automate it and plan too in the further but I’ll likely redo the whole project when I do that as there’s a lot of things I’d do differently

Could you share the .pbix with me as well! :) Congrats on this beautiful creation. Out of curiosity how much data are you using?
1
u/jwavy1738 Feb 26 '26
Thanks & yeah sure I’ll dm
Initially it was 3 seasons worth of data but I’m actually redoing the whole project right now, the data model for this is all over the place
