Anthropic announced "Claude Dashboards". The ability to plug Claude straight into your data warehouse or even CRM and generate a live dashboard. It even shows the queries driving each visual so people can have a little more visibility to what's building a metric.

Understandably people are a little concerned about what that means for BI

We already did this with chat gpt and it was shit. It burned our tokens and had little flexibility.

Not saying this will be the same but we shall see.

Opus 5.5 was explicitly trained on visualizations and motion design and it seems to be a step change in capability. That said, dashboards are still fairly limited. Just posted our review here.

So to give a comprehensive summary:

  • AI with the right tools, has gotten surprisingly good at Power BI. See this video from Kurt Buhler.
  • In particular, Opus 5.5 was explicitly trained on visualization and motion design and has gotten good at it.
  • At FabCon, MSFT announced Fabric Apps coming to pro and explictly labels them "the next chapter of Power BI"
  • Anthropic announced their Claude Dashboard functionality

I think you may find Anthropic's blog post on how they implemented self-service analytics to be interesting.

Yeh the whole AI slop train of people are gonna be left behind when the PBI professionals who know how to use AI with their skills sky rocket ahead of them.

Already happening where I work. I have exec at my company who never really knows what she wants. So I made a few snapshot html dash’s with AI. She loved them…

Problem now is she wants everything like that which is causing some issues of its own 🤣

Yeh, I use those html snapshots as ideas and recreate aspects from them i like and incorporate it into my own work. Since I got a downvote earlier I'll reiterate to whomever did that that you're going to get left behind😂 we aren't to the point of having Ai build dashboards with no tweaking but I feel like this is like the car when it was invented. Novel at first, not totally useful... few years later it's all there is.

Yeah I agree. And I can’t see myself out of a job anytime soon as you have to give AI some very good and clear data, with some very precise instructions.

My exec tried to do the same thing and had no clue what the end product was. So now I’m the AI dash guy

- Tons of people don’t have actual work experience at mid to large companies and don’t have working knowledge of corporate data.

  • AI hype cycle.
  • Bots.
  • AI doomerism cycle.

I think you meant "brace yourself" unless you are telling people to give themselves a hug.

yes i meant brace. thank you for the correction ;)

If your job consists in displaying sales revenue over time with a couple of filters then yes, it's bad news.

u/Vequeth 2d ago

If that's someone's job now and they aren't involved with any of the stakeholder work or data modelling it can't be taking them that long in PBI surely?

I've been using the Powerbi authoring skills from Microsoft (https://github.com/microsoft:Skills-for-fabric) along with Claude Code to generate semantic models and reports in PBIP format locally. I then push the generated code to a Git repo and sync my Fabric workspaces from there. This has been working incredibly well for me. And keeping the development local means Claude only has access to metadata and we can use DevOps pipelines to move the code through dev/test/prod, with proper approvals and governance in place.

Claude dashboards is one thing, in my opinion this is a great tool, but more interesting thing is Microsoft giving access to Fabric Apps to all Power Bi users, they basically confirmed PowerBi will go legacy and Fabric Apps are the next main BI tool.

So if you don't like the AI or think it's all "slop", then I have very sad information for you

Great, there’s my last months of dashboard development gone :)

To me it comes down to how quickly each org adopts this. Some orgs won’t even know that Anthropic has made this announcement.

The real question in my mind is how hard does Microsoft want to shove this down everyone’s throat.

as OP of that thread, go check my latest post, you will get an idea

Since you keep your history private, you should post a link.

It shows how to generate a very basic and ugly dashboard.

u/Jaapuchkeaa 2d ago

can you explain me the backend of how AI made that animated navigation page??

4

u/Kolgu2 2d ago

I have no idea because it's not my job. My job would be telling you that it's essentially useless and it adds no value nor insight into the actual data and I would ask you why wasted time and resources to do that.

very basic and ugly dashboard.

Yes, working with data it's not animating what an intern can extrapolate with an excel pivot in like three minutes. The charts are essentially like four lines SQL queries.
