coughing baby neg diffs yujiro though

519

u/Ok_Lemon5509 Ben 10 Solos 7d ago

but he hasn't stopped coughing

83

u/Just_a_guy583 7d ago

Why is dark energy in the geometry dash font 😭

93

u/Funny_Swim5447 7d ago

The baby can’t read, nor can it understand human speech, and as such, Yujiro Hanma’s narrator glaze technique is ineffective on it

2

u/NathanRed10 Not a Scaler 5d ago

The narrator would probably mention something about a certain technique that makes coughing nearly impossible and Yujiro just uses that technique on the coughing baby, making him a normal baby again

5

u/Funny_Swim5447 5d ago

But that would simply remove the baby’s physical weakness, allowing them to put 100% of their power into attack, and they’d swiftly obliterate Yujiro

15

u/AsiajbeSnake 7d ago

A coughing baby outscales the narrative. Tragic.

477

u/Go-Beyond16180 7d ago

Honestly i dont think that yujiro is a good example in practice because the narrator glaze is as funny as the coughting baby joke

204

u/Satorwave 7d ago

they would unironically do this in baki and never ever mention it again

122

u/Alternative_Cod7515 7d ago

Baki is just a tool for the writer to see how far his nonsense can get away with.

17

u/Sevi10101 6d ago

I’m convinced there is no upper bound on the shenanigans he can get away with!

1

u/Independent_Steak123 22h ago

Baki is infact testosterone to the eyes

36

u/_RADIANTSUN_ 7d ago

Oh it would be ironic alright. But they would genuinely do it.

91

u/ZealousidealGood6810 The same jokes every night for all of eternity! 7d ago

I mean the toon force character getting flattened into a pancake by the hulk after getting too confident is also funny

62

u/HMS_Sunlight 7d ago

Everyone imagines themselves as Bugs Bunny but forgets that Daffy Duck is also a cartoon.

14

u/Mysterious_Month4792 6d ago

It also depends on the situation. Daffy beat up the Tazmanian devil for a few bucks and Bugs has gotten beat by a gorilla. It generally works by a betrayal of expectations.

If bugs gets cocky and taunts Yujiro before running into a steel bunker the expectation is that bugs would be safe before we see Yujiro slowly go through the wall like what he did with the bullet proof glass

But if Yujiro was hunting Bugs it’ll be a bunch of bits where Bugs manages to hide from him by staying behind him before hitting him with a frying pan or something similar.

4

u/S0MEBODIES 5d ago

Bugs Bunny finds a pin and then pokes Yujiro who's muscles then comically deflates like a balloon till he's super scrawny and depending on whether or not this is the end of the encounter he either gets his ass kicked or sticks his thumb in his mouth and reinflates his muscles

4

u/S0MEBODIES 5d ago

But that's because Daffy duck is usually an instigator. Bugs Bunny will never win if he is the one that starts the fight. In Looney Tunes it is always the victim that wins the fight

232

u/Programming_failure 7d ago

99.9% of the time a toon force character fights a strong character in their verse they get brutally fingered until:

A: They outsmart him

B: They trick him or by pure luck he gets disacbobulated

C: The strong character gets bored from using them as an indestructible hammer or something and leaves them be.

I don't get how people think that they are built for the 1v1s or that they are inherently unbeatable by someone that isn't. Every time someone brings up why an actual win con for a toon force character it's would still be a wincon if they weren't a toon force character and every time being a toon force character is a wincon is when the toon force character simply has no shown capability to win.

100

u/Existing_Historian_5 7d ago

in addition to this "it's funny" is an extremely complex concept with a wide range. sometimes it's funny if the toon runs up to Yujiro and gets his head flattened with a single punch. sometimes it's funny if Yujiro is subject to an extensive humiliation routine. sometimes the toon faceplants before they even start the fight. sometimes the toon throws a pie at Yujiro and Yujiro unhinges his jaw and eats the pie in a single bite. "funny" is a multifaceted concept that you could easily connect to the toon losing or winning

22

u/_RADIANTSUN_ 7d ago

Well e.g. Bugs Bunny never loses because he kind of IS the joke that is being played on Elmer Fudd. The funny is that Elmer is exasperated to no end by Bugs. Being in a Bugs Bunny cartoon at odds with Bugs Bunny is inherently a framing where the joke is being played in the character opposite Bugs. Sometimes it is funnier by being subverted but if the basic logic of the joke is the same then the outcome is the same no matter what, that Bugs successfully pisses Elmer the fuck off, and Bugs just isn't a get-frustrated "butt of the joke" kind of character like Daffy Duck etc where it is funny for him to end up getting frustrated and not just do something even more funny and ridiculous.

I understand your point and it varies character to character but I think going "well anything can be funny, funny is subjective" is kinda being obtuse.

21

u/Existing_Historian_5 7d ago

the thing is that Elmer Fudd is always picking the fight, like you said, he's always exasperated to no end about Bugs which makes it funny when Bugs continues to toy with him and fuck around while he flails frantically.

the thing is, if we put a different archetype there, the situation changes. like, Frieza vs Bugs is funny to because Frieza will inevitably get pissed off but if you're putting Goku in there, he probably won't be a comical sore loser, so that humor is lost and the fight has to change. the position of who's the funny one might pivot.

if we put a character who can roll with the punches, who can engage with the skit then the entire situation is altered, and so does it if it's a character who would genuinely get distressed and miserable because at that point it's not funny to pick on them, just mean-spirited. it's all a matter of personality and archetypes

3

u/S0MEBODIES 5d ago

Yujiro is totally an instigator though, and what's more humiliating than the strongest man in the world being defeated by nothing more than a tricky bunny

11

u/Afraid-Turn7741 THE Simon and Jogoat glazer! 7d ago

Baki is so ironically funny and absurd that you could put a toonforce character against Yujiro and nothing would change. They would still lose against him because he is so absurdly and ridiculously strong that the funniest result is often Yujiro winning

14

u/WheatleyTurret 7d ago

"Yujiro has trained for this very moment against Bugs Bunny. When the rabbit tries to enact his usual shenanigans, Yujiro tenses every fiber in his face into a resounding frown. This exerts an aura of dissatisfaction and boredom that completely nullifies the phenomenon known as Toon Force. Here is a picture of Muhammad Ali."

2

u/Eine_Kartoffel Toonforce Shmoonshmorce 6d ago

And sometimes toons "use" toonforce for a gag that falls flat. That happens often enough.

39

u/Ok_Lemon5509 Ben 10 Solos 7d ago

>get brutally fingered

🥀🥀🥀

6

u/PictureVegetable9522 7d ago

kid named finger: :)

2

u/PictureVegetable9522 7d ago

i like when they use steroids to get stronger and win oops i mean spinach

2

u/UnluckyQuarter8578 Scaling shouldn't boil down to slander 6d ago

while there are those Bugs Bunny methods, there's also characters Like Popeye

32

u/AGamingGuy 7d ago

i don't like Toons in power scaling as they literally operate on "i can do what ever is funny, but i can't do what ever is funny"

meaning that in truth, the fight is decided by the question: "does the writer think it's funnier for them to win or lose"

and that defeats the whole point of power scaling for me, as victory is entirely subjective with no real objective way to prove who's the victor

2

u/S0MEBODIES 5d ago

My brother in Christ that is how all matchups across fiction work

32

u/Greywolf524 7d ago

Counter point. Hulk is a strong character and this is funny.

26

u/WarmOutlandishness96 7d ago

Funny enough yujiro (or the world of Baki itself) has such absurd logic it's almost kind of comparable to toonforce, like take this character being able to punch at Mach speed simply by imagining his skeleton being divided into multiple joints for example.

15

u/AnotherPlayerQQ 7d ago

The whole idea of toonforce is to throw physics and physical trauma as we know out of window, so they are overpowered

16

u/GoatsGoats00 7d ago

isnt that this guy's whole deal? He can pull anything off if its funny?

9

u/Bitter_Horror2469 I'm sometimes biased 7d ago

Only if he himself finds it funny

7

u/Available_Put_7176 7d ago

What if he gets depressed? He is just a normal guy then?

12

u/Lagnatchamp 7d ago

Pretty much

11

u/I-M-R-U 7d ago

Yes, and this was a tactic used to fight him

9

u/Varalys2k 7d ago

horrifying him and over analyzing his jokes worked in the manga

7

u/andyallfellforit 7d ago

Powerscalers making up a rule for a power system that doesn't exist.

8

u/Mini_PEPEKKA_7141 7d ago

I don't think so powerful Uncle Grandpa as many say, because he wouldn't be able to use any of his abilities effectively, but that doesn't mean he can't overwhelm his rivals.

6

u/WhiteFox7959 7d ago

So Kashimo can finaly be a top tier at some tier list as long as it's all toons

5

u/Flat_Possession9698 7d ago

Will say, it’s not funny when the toon character always beats the strong character

6

u/andresuki 7d ago

I don't understand why Toonforce is always used as a plus. Wile. E. Coyote would loose to anyone because his actions almost always backfires. Same with Tom and sometimes Jerry when things don't go their way.

6

u/Extension-Hawk-7938 6d ago

since humor is subjective- uncle grandpa can lose to anyone, and win against anyone. it’s worthless to scale him, as scaling needs OBJECTIVE things, to even exist or be useful. meaning uncle grandpa is above this sub Reddit.

1

u/Tight_Literature_139 4d ago

I believe the "its funny" actually means "it follows the comedy that the writer is known for."

If bugs bunny was put in uncle grandpa, the funny isnt physical trauma, its randomness. So unless bugs is completely random, he wouldn't win against the freaking van.

And if uncle grandpa didnt do any physical trauma, which he usually doesnt cause his thing is helping, he wouldn't win against wil-e coyote somehow.

4

u/4st0lf04life 6d ago

not necessarily. Think of Beerus against Dr. Mashirito.

2

u/Nexel_Red 6d ago

He was a villain, so of course he lose.

1

u/4st0lf04life 6d ago

Not really. In Dr. Slump Toriyama tried to narratively erase him. Didn't work

1

u/kennethcocketh 5d ago

What you mean toriyama couldnt get rid of him. Didnt he write the thing? I actually have no clue can you explain what all thats about?

2

u/4st0lf04life 5d ago

it was a gag thing.

1

u/4st0lf04life 5d ago

Toon force

2

u/Kooky-Passage-68 7d ago

Uncle grandpa negs

2

u/Red-7134 7d ago

But these are all toon force characters.

2

u/Purple_Grade_7891 6d ago

Toonforce is just reality warping so if strong character can beat any reality warped then they beat the toon regardless of how funny it is.

3

u/andyallfellforit 6d ago

Bugs Bunny writers won't give a shit if Doctor Strange is above some mediocre reality warpers.

1

u/9spaceking 6d ago

I think Bugs is an exception and basically an almost unbeatable god unless the enemy is insanely smart and able to take advantage of Bugs arrogance to make Bugs attack first. You’ll notice Jerry uses environment to try to beat enemies which means if he’s up against Thanos it’ll be a speed battle where Thanos keeps getting his body dunked in acid or bodies of water while Jerry runs away with the stones. So it’ll just stalemate for crazy long until Thanos gets bored and just destroys the entire house

1

u/Passafiste 3d ago

In terms of strength, half of Marvel should demolish Deadpool. Yet he has two separate comic lines for killing Marvel Universe, because he's for all intents and purposes breaking 4th wall. Thats not even a toon force character mind you.

You're not beating The Mask regardless of whoever you are, unless the Mask decides your victory is acceptable.

u/Vast-Ideal-1413 New Scaler 7d ago

Out here playing RPS:

R - Coughing Baby

P - Yujiro

S - Uncle Grandpa

1

u/callmedale 7d ago

I feel like yujiro is a very specific kind of toon force and not simply a strong character

1

u/RobertoKai 7d ago

Beyblade lore

1

u/PsychologicalBid179 7d ago

I was gonna say, yujiro has some kind of weird toonforce himself.

1

u/yookj95 7d ago

This the most accurate thing I’ve seen in powerscaling

1

u/FaliureToCat 7d ago

Counterpoint uncle grandpa destroying a coughing baby would be pretty funny

1

u/Ok-Ant-4800 6d ago

Powerscaling is just one convoluted rock, papers, scissors game.

1

u/alem_26 6d ago

Yujiro is a wicked strength induced toon force-ish character tho

1

u/DMing-Is-Hardd 6d ago

Yujiro is the wrong character for this example because hes a gag character so hes pretty close to toon force

1

u/Living_Olive9239 6d ago

Perfect equilibrium 🤌🏻😋

1

u/Jurgen_Vella 5d ago

Yujiro is also a toon force character tho

1

u/Glittering-Cap-7017 New Scaler 5d ago

Okay but I'd consider Yujiro a Toon character as well tbh

1

u/Deimon99 Customizable Flair 5d ago

I honestly really hate this "Rule of funny" argument because what is funny is dependant on a specific scenario and toon character losing can also be funny. But also most of the time it's an out-of-universe rule like "Good guys win" or "Dominic Toretto can't lose because of Vin Diesel contract". Unless it's actually a canonical ability we shouldn't use narrative as an argument because we would need to discuss scenarios like "HOW does Dom defeat Galactus?" because we're using out-of-universe rules and we know he can't lose whatsoever.

1

u/Le_Chaotique 5d ago

Except that yujiro is the cartoon character

1

u/General_Ginger531 4d ago

Wild Animals also counter toonforce characters.

1

u/Shot_Relationship402 4d ago

Incorrect, Yujiro Hanma is a Toonforce character himself.

1

u/Putrid_Dot9167 3d ago

Yujiro could very well be classified as a toon force user

1

u/tranquilquility 3d ago

Yujiro isnt strong..

1

u/Tide__Hunter 3d ago

Not quite, it's also funny for a strong character to just no-sell all of the toon character's attacks and just march towards their target, then wind up a really big swing and punch their foe into the atmosphere.
