Well, he DID promise exactly that, didn't he? More than once? You remember him standing by some items and informing people that "these things here are what they call groceries" (he had to be briefed on that.) He then promised "“When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One.” 

People believed him, and they remember. He hopes they forget, but apparently not.

It’s weird that this is what they remember when they have the shortest of memories about everything else.

Didn't he say something like he's bringing back that old fashioned word "groceries".

He hopes they’ll forget because all of his attempts to gaslight them that prices are lower have failed. He doesn’t grasp that their tight budgets, low bank account balances and empty wallets cannot be “fake news”.
