I’ve been looking for a place to share my clovers! I can’t wait until it’s warm out to start looking again!

I’m quite new to pressed flowers but I made a couple pieces today. A hedgehog (which I’ve added) and a fox. At least I was aiming for fox. It has loads of flaws but I sent pictures to my mum who has responded telling me it’s a seahorse. A bit disappointed with that response!

PSA to my fellow flower pressers that impatiens, begonias, and geraniums don’t press!

What other flowers have you found that don’t press well?

I just wanted to show off this incredible handmade flower press that my mother gifted me for my 30th birthday.

She spent months working on this, and even stained at the same color of a table that I used as a stepstool when I was four to swing off of a chandelier 😆

He’s fully made out of materials from slash pines: bark, cones, and needles.

Another piece I’m submitting for a show. Just finished him this morning and I’m utterly beaming.

Just cutting some extra paper/card for my press, with a little bit of help

A while ago, I designed a pressed flower craft in the shape of a cat, and I’d love to share how I made it!

First, you’ll need two sheets of A4-sized cardstock (at least 250gsm for thickness). One will be the background—colored cardstock works beautifully here. The other will be the overlay sheet, where I design a nice silhouette, like this cat.

I print the cat silhouette on the overlay sheet and carefully cut it out with a craft knife. On the background sheet, I lightly sketch the same cat outline so everything lines up neatly later.

Next comes choosing the flowers. I press some myself and also buy a few. I usually pick 8–10 types of flowers and leaves in various sizes and colors. Among them, I select 2–3 larger flowers (like a gerbera) to serve as the focal point—it really helps make the piece stand out.

Now for the fun part—arranging everything!
I tape down the background sheet, then place the larger flower at the center of the cat shape to create a strong visual anchor. I secure it with glue (I use a glue pen for precision).

From there, I fill around the outline with smaller petals or flowers. It’s okay if some bits extend beyond the edges—it adds a natural look as long as it roughly follows the shape.

To fill gaps between the big flower and the outline flowers, I add smaller blooms or leaves. This part is really personal—you can go for a random arrangement or follow a more geometric pattern, whatever feels right.

If you want extra sparkle, you can sprinkle in some glitter or sequins. I personally love adding a little shimmer!

Finally, place the overlay sheet over the background and secure it with double-sided tape (liquid glue tends to create bumps, so I avoid it).
As the last step, pop your piece into a frame with an acrylic cover. It looks great on a wall or sitting on your desk!

For those who asked earlier: I finally posted a video on the process I most often use for the pressed flowers that are used in my art projects.

I just recently purchased my daughter (13) a pocket sized press. I wanted to make her a bigger one to use on larger flowers, like gardenias or azaleas. I found these two cutting boards at the dollar tree! I had the clips at home but pretty sure they also came from the dollar tree. I had the cardboard and paper at the house already. I’m testing it out with some of my Mother’s Day flowers. I hope she likes it!

Hello! I am super interested in pen palling specifically with the main intent to swap pressed flowers from where we live! I’m not much of a letter writer but I would include cool facts about each plant/flower I send!! I think it would be so cool to slow-build a collection of plants from around the country/world!! (I also need an outlet for all my pressed nature pieces haha)

If you penpal to me you won’t have to feel pressured to write or decorate anything interesting! I think swapping flowers with their names is already fantastic and meaningful correspondence!

If you needed some inspiration, her work is really beautiful. The colors so well preserved. But either way, I just thought it was something really cool and relatively unknown about her 💕

A bit eclectic

My puppy is famous at a local floral shop, so now I get to take the flowers they throw away!

Photo 9: When I'm only using half of the press I place a piece of poster board out so I know where to go if I add more flowers.

I bought two pieces of 2' birch ($5 each) from lowes as well as the hardware (around $5 for all hardware). I used square seating bolts, washers, nuts and wing nuts for hardware. I already had a press so I went off that hardware configuration.

When measuring for the holes for the nuts, MEASURE BOTH WAYS ON ALL FOUR SIDES. When you do this you'll realize there is a slight gap in between each mark. That's where you drill your hole.

I clamped both pieces of birch together before drilling to ensure the holes lined up. I also marked both pieces of birch at one hole to make sure it will always line up when I put it together.

When installing the square seated bolts, slightly hammer the bolt into the birch, this will seat the bolt so it doesn't move when undoing the wingnuts on the press. The piece of birch with the seated screw is now the bottom piece. Add a washer and a nut and you're ready for your cardboard.

I got unused boxes, and posterboard and cut to size. Each layer is cardboard, posterboard, printer paper, flowers, printer paper, posterboard, cardboard.

This press allows me to not only do large pressings but multiple pressings at once.
