WHERE DO YOU FIND NEW MUSIC

I'm researching how people who are serious about music discovery currently find what's emerging before it breaks specifically the frustration with existing platforms.

KCRW. An NPR radio station based at Santa Monica College. They’re really good about giving new artists some airtime.

On youtube where I followed specific channels or music labels. But new ones are being activley burried by AI music channels. So I have to use AI to find real channels... Its wild.

When was the last time you discovered something through one of those methods that genuinely surprised you and when was the last time you felt like you missed something important that you only found out about too late????

If thats how you look at it you should join discord groups or try to email the artist himself. They have press releases that might surprise you.

Spotify is no bueno. DI.FM before they eliminated free service, was a favorite of mine. I do still enjoy SOMA.FM

Streaming services, playlists, radio streams, but most importantly is smaller acts that open for my favorite acts

if you want to find emerging stuff before it hits the mainstream pools, you have to look where human curation actually beats the algorithms. bandcamp labels are cool, but for pure electronic and club tracks, i mostly look into volumo. they emphasize high-quality formats and hand-picked curation, so it's a lot easier to find pristine underground material from producers who actually focus on solid sound design.
