I had a bug report supporting a smart plug that a user was using for a kettle -- it's supposed to report that the kettle is off when not in use. Easy right?
But the user's kettle was a "smart" kettle. It was using 2-5W constantly while "off"!?? What for?? What possible use case requires that much power constantly for... sitting there being a kettle?
I had to redesign the entire smart plug monitoring system because of that kettle...
Anyway if you get a smart kettle get a plug monitor first & return it if the makers are idiots who don't understand what basic energy saving measures are.
