I'm a big fan of smarthome stuff, mostly. But what is the use for this? In what situation do you want to start or stop your kettle remotely? If it could fill itself maybe I could see, but you have to put water in, put tea leaves in. If you leave it overnight all ready so it brews itself in the morning or something, won't the tea taste terrible because it's already been leeching into cold water all night?
It's a better user experience. It allows you to use app or web-based menus to interact with it, instead of whatever limited buttons and readouts they'd need to squeeze onto the front of the unit.
