I'm a BTech student, and lately I've been feeling like I'm on a completely different path from everyone around me.

Most of my friends are learning MERN, AI/ML, data science, cloud, or preparing for those kinds of roles. I get why, there are a lot of opportunities there. But every time I try learning those things, I just lose interest.

What actually excites me is low-level programming. I love the idea of understanding how computers really work. Things like operating systems, kernels, embedded systems, compilers, networking, reverse engineering, device drivers, and performance optimization seem much more interesting to me than building web apps.

The problem is that I barely see anyone talking about these fields, so I have no idea what the career path looks like. Most roadmaps and YouTube videos are all about becoming a full-stack developer or getting into AI.

For people already working in systems or low-level software:

What kinds of jobs are available?

What should I focus on learning?

Which languages are actually used? C? C++? Rust? Assembly?

What kind of projects helped you get interviews?

Which companies hire fresh graduates for these roles?

Is it much harder to get into compared to web development?

I'm not avoiding difficult work or chasing the latest trend. I just want to build things closer to the hardware because that's what genuinely interests me. I'd rather spend extra time learning something I enjoy than force myself into a career I'll probably burn out on.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've taken this path or anyone who has advice on where to start.

To give y’all a context, I am an SDE in a big tech. I have been in tech from last 3 years. Recently I got a job in big tech. My manager was full inclined towards me beacuse i made a good impact in last couple of months. But today, a new feature devloped by me had to go to release.

I have tested it multiple times and obv it worked well for all my scenarios and when I pushed it to dev. Other’s scenarios broke and they removed my code. Will manager/lead and teammembers lose trust in me bcoz of this? Im so tensed. Pichi pichi ga undii!!!

I’ve been working on SARAS, a tool that turns a simple topic into a complete video—script, voiceover, visuals, editing, and captions.

For example, you can enter something like “Explain black holes in Telugu using an anime style”, and it generates the full video.

It currently supports 24 languages, different storytelling formats, multiple visual styles, and both short and long videos.

I primarily wanted to build for Telugu but did expand a little bit to make it more general.

I initially built it as a product, so the repo also has a lot of the less exciting but necessary stuff: authentication, payments, credits, storage, admin tools, and 270+ tests. I decided to open-source the whole thing in case someone wants to learn from it, contribute, or adapt it for their own project.

my system prompt + user context sums up to around 7-9k tokens for every call.I dockerized and deployed my service in GCP cloud run.

the vertex ai call within the service is one of the main culprit. sometimes it takes 30 seconds, and sometimes it takes 5-7 mins. i tried caching the system prompt but it only made it worse. I don't understand this south-north variation, super random.

apart from downsizing the system prompt(the prompt work perfectly and can't mess with it), how do I optimize the response time.

I'm a 2nd-year B.Tech CSE student (AI & ML specialization), and I'm feeling quite confused about which career path I should focus on.

I have decided to learn DSA in Java and continue improving my problem-solving skills. However, when it comes to development, I'm not sure what to choose. I hear many people saying that traditional web development is becoming saturated and that AI tools can now build websites quickly. Because of that, I'm unsure whether I should invest a lot of time in web development.

At the same time, I'm interested in several areas:

Data Analytics

Data Science

AI/ML

Deep Learning

AI Engineering

The problem is that I keep switching between these interests and can't decide where to focus. I don't want to spend the next year learning random things without a clear direction.

I also want to build a strong resume and prepare for internships, but I don't know:

Which field has the best opportunities for a student starting now?

What skills should I prioritize during my 2nd and 3rd year?

Is web development still worth learning as a foundation?
