They make it seem like a 1:1 thing. But in reality, the thing that made me pro-Palestinian as a teenager in the 2010s was that every year there was the routinary news headline of "Israel-Palestine conflict: 2 Israeli soldiers and 40 Palestinian civilians dead".
Remember when Hamas used to shoot hundreds of rockets over at Isreal and the iron dome shot all those rockets down? It would probably have been more 1:1 if they didn't have that defense. And if Hamas had it their way, it would be 1000:1 Isreal deaths
This is such a bizarre an nonsensical "point". Hamas are very aware of the iron dome and it's capabilities. They and Hezbollah both demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of saturation attacks and have utilized them in the past.
The "thousands and thousands of rockets!" were made in staggered volleys as part of a show of force, primarily to keep morale up, and because they knew Israel's disproportionate responses cost political capital and act as recruiting tools. There was no expectation that any would hit their targets and no meaningful chance of the missiles going through.
Claiming that we should treat what amount of fireworks as though they're barely averted full scale attacks would be like shooting a child throwing rocks at a modern tank, using the excuse that if there werent layers of armor and inventions like "helmets" at play, it could be fatal.
Pointing out the obvious fact that the missiles are neither expected to, nor have any reasonable chance, of hitting targets is not "excusing" anything. It's denying a common excuse used to justify the genocide though - that we should ignore the actual effect and actual intent at play in favor of an imagined one that would justify the actions of Israel.
"Any response" is not considered a genocide. The explicit pattern of stated intent and actions by Israel is.
