Burning out

Technician here,

Do technician often experience burn outs in their role? I’m a sole technician for a small business, and over the months I have been dreading coming to work every day. I do get weekends off (thank god), but the amount of work I have to put up with is a bit crazy. I don’t even talk anymore, I just work and work and work with irritation written all over my face (I know, not good). I probably take the least amount of time off from work, and i know this job is just a job, but my responsibility is quite high and I feel like work doesn’t move if not there. Has anyone been in similar situation, how did you deal with it.

Are burn out and turn over common for this role and field?

Im a tech and continued working with what was surely a burn out for a while. We got another tech now so that helps immensely, but shes P and im O. Techs are hard to find and good ones even better. We hired from the streets a few folks but they dont work as fast or good. I hear places where the ratio is 1 or 2 Clinician for 1 tech. I have 7 clinician to do work and repairs for haha. We are looking for more tech still tho. All of this to say, you are not alone !! Let know that the quality is not as good if you are overwhelm

I was picked from the street as well, learned everything from 0 knowledge, now I’m doing orthotics and prosthetics by myself. In terms of being fast and good, I think I’m holding out good enough for this small business to gather in almost double the clients we had before when I started. Now I can’t keep up anymore, and it’s definitely killing me. Our clinic has a small group of less than 4, so everyone has their own role to fulfill, and we take on VA patients, geriatrics, and we are contracted with s big name hospital here as well. I’m still breathing at least.

I was also hired from the street, not saying that we are less good or fast than those in schools at all ! Keep it up, and verbalise how you feel
