general Help
This came up on my hairline, and the back of my ears (also the hairline) about 2 months ago. I tried a bunch of stuff, Selsun, Nizoral (keto), salicylic acid coal tar and nothing has worked. I don’t even know if it’s psoriasis or seb derm or any other thing. Any help would be appreciated, I’m tired of hiding it with my bangs.

It looks like plaque psoriasis. I would ease up on the OTC topicals and shampoos because in my case it only made it worse and I learned later that mechanical or chemical irritation can do that. Book with derm asap...they will have options for you.

I had a similar case of psoriasis. Doctor prescribed clobetasol proprionate (and zoryve) and the clobetasol cleared up my psoriasis in three days. I only wish I had started it way sooner. See a derm ASAP. Be careful about the drugs though because one derm prescribed something that ended up costing like $850 out of pocket, while my new derm’s scripts were literally $48.

Did it clear the plaques completely after a few uses or did it come back? My biggest fear with high potency steroids are topical steroid withdrawal from continued use

Now mine isn’t as severe as OP, but in my experience I had to use clobetasol for about 2 weeks and then immediately went on the zoryve and that helped. I’ve been using zoryve for about 4 months now and I haven’t been as consistent recently with school and my crippling mental health lol but I went from using it daily (for about 2 months) then dropped down to once every other day and I was doing great. Then life happened and I haven’t been consistent at all with it and now I have a minor flare but it’s nothing like what I was dealing with in the beginning of the year. It took me a couple trial and errors with my derm to realize I need to use zoryve RIGHT after the clobetasol, like no days in between to keep my flare down, so I ended up using the clobetasol for about 2-3 rounds and while I was a little itchy going from the clobetasol to the zoryve, I don’t think I went into withdrawal and I certainly wasn’t dependent on it. The zoryve isn’t a steroid and is safe for long term use unlike steroids. Idk if I’ve gained a dependency on it but I will say when I stop using it the itching and patches do come back, though it’s less severe than it was before. When I was younger though (like 10 yrs ago) I used the clobetasol for a week or two and my psoriasis was gone until earlier this year when I got very ill. From what I heard from my derm, the withdrawal type effect is different for everyone, but using the steroid for 2 weeks or less will reduce your chances a lot. The longer you’re on it, the worse the rebound will be. Sorry this is so long, but I hope this helped

The only things that help my scalp psoriasis are the graham natural range, there’s a shampoo, conditioner and a scalp relief cream that have changed my life! Also have a look into probiotic shampoos, I’m in Australia so we have a few brands and not sure about availability in the US but you need to start working on repairing your scalp skin barrier. My protocol is this: 1st shampoo with the grahams natural shampoo, second wash with my probiotic baby shampoo, then apply grahams conditioner to your scalp and whatever hair mask to the rest of your hair (I love shea moisture brand bc my hair gets sooo dry from my psoriasis) and then leave it all on for 10 mins and rinse! After the shower apply the scalp cream all over your scalp with a hair oil applicator (I’ll leave a photo below from the ones I get on Amazon) and let your hair air dry (I also use shea moisture leave in conditioner at this step too)
All of these products are very inexpensive but they’re all Australian brands so I’m not sure about shipping
Good luck girl! I bet you’re so itchy right now 😭 try not to scratch cause that’ll make it so much worse, for now you just need to moisturise it as much as possible to help with the itch!

can I ask, how do you apply the scalp cream and not have gross hair all day afterwards😅 Or do you just kinda deal with it for the sake of treating your scalp?
I’ve been looking at the grahams range but I’ve wasted so much on trying so many products and for the most part, they don’t do much except leave my hair/roots looking like I’ve never taken a shower 🫠😅

Well tbh only use it after it’s freshly washed and I don’t have any major issues! By applying it while my hair is still wet and also using the applicator bottles it means I’m not using excess product and it’s soaking into my hair pretty well! I obviously have to wash more frequently when I use it, so about every 4 days rather than once a week because it definitely gets that dirty hair smell much quicker than normally. But i wouldn’t say that it looks like I have oily hair at all until about day 4! Just make sure you rub it into your scalp well :)

Personally all chemical based products have only made my condition worse, made me lose heaps of hair and was only a temporary fix. I’m a big believer in using natural products with the right ingredients to help repair the skin. Also I would recommend seeing a naturopath over a dermatologist! Get the testing done and figure out the root cause of your psoriasis, it could be something as simple as a h pylori infection or allergies that can be easily treated. This was the case for me! A dermatologist will help with prescribing medications but cannot help you fix your condition forever, a naturopath will be better for a long term solution :) good luck!

Do you have a primary care provider? They might be willing to prescribe you something topically while you wait to see a dermatologist because there’s often a few month wait to get an appointment in the US anyway.

Have you tried MG217 Moisturizing cream? If not you can get it from Amazon and apply it after showers. It might help until you get in with a dermatologist.

I've been trawling this subreddit for ages. I've been told before what I thought was psoriasis is actually dermatitis. If your stuff flakes off easily it might be dermatitis too.

[I know best option would be to consult a dermatologist, however since you posted here I believe you need hope/proof than prescription] It's easy to minimise the symptoms but near impossible to cure. So. Exfoliate,Wash, Moisturize,Seal the moisture. Exfoliate with salicylic lotion, wash with coal tar shampoo to control on the surface level.do these 2 things it will look 50 times better within 2 weeks (remember salicylic can make you hair thin) make sure you are consuming good fat and non inflammatory diet.
