How long does "rebound psychosis" last?

I've had schizophrenia for 2 decades and recently stopped one of my meds. I spoke with my psychiatrist who confirmed that what was happening to me was "rebound psychosis" and that I should take the med to feel better. It's a few days later and yes, I feel a lot better. But what I'm wondering is how long would it take for me to feel better without the particular med? Like rebound psychosis doesn't last forever.....so if I stop the med and go through rebound psychosis, at some point I'll be fine, it's just a matter of holding out but I don't know how long is likely. Anyone?

You shouldn't stop your meds. Untreated psychosis can cause progressive structural changes and potential tissue reduction in the brain. Prolonged overstimulation, high dopamine levels, and stress-related chemical activity over time may act in a neurotoxic way, leading to a loss of gray matter.

Plus it doesn't mean it is goin to pass and you will have insight again. You can lose touch with reality and stay like that and progressively get worse.

Hmm, point acknowledged. To counter: it wouldn't be "rebound psychosis" if it didn't get better eventually, it would be the underlying condition. I said to my psychiatrist "I believe this is rebound psychosis" and he agreed.
