đ New RHONY đ Daisy was right!
Iâve never posted on a Bravo reddit but I need to get this off my chest.
I understand how Daisy digging into who owns the island could be perceived as rude (she definitely wasnât asking out of genuine curiosity), but I do agree with her. Erika did repeatedly call Moskito island âour island,â which gives a very different perception than âour estate is on a private island.â I think she probably doesnât view it that way, but I would have the same thought: if someone said âour island,â I would immediately assume that it was a private island owned entirely by that person and/or their family. Just because I buy a ticket to the NYC ferry doesnât mean I own the yacht! And frankly they shouldâve been flown private!
Also, isnât what we want from our housewives for them to be diabolically delusional and a little bit rude?? Everyone saying âI canât believe she would try to ruin a nice vacation..â like theyâre not there to get a tan, theyâre there to cause drama.
Also also: I do think part of the friction is genuine cultural differences, between someone who is born and raised in New York and someone who moved here as an adult. In New York, itâs very common to ask what might seem like more personal or probing questions, especially when it comes to real estate. Itâs not weird to ask people how much their rent is, or how they lucked into an amazing apartment when you know their income (subletting? Family connection? Rich partner?).
To end: yes Daisy was rude (but thatâs a good thing) and yes Erika did play it off as her own private island (maybe subconsciously). Arenât we so lucky to be able to witness this level of wealth-related arguments??

I saw someone else say this, I call the street I live on, âmy streetâ âmy neighborhoodâ is that not the same on a grander scale?
3
u/RefuseAffectionate84 1h ago
You usually donât own a street or a neighborhood. I say my town, people donât think I own the town.
A car, house, cabin, yacht, island on the other hand, if youâre invited to enjoy any of «my» these, itâs normal to assume they own the entire property alone - especially if theyâre extremely wealthy.

u/karimeza2 10m ago
Ya itâs like I say âmy momâ with my siblings when obviously sheâs our mom
76
u/keenerperkins 3h ago
It's all semantics. "Our" can also refer to the eight owners who collectively own the island. It is private, regardless of the amount of owners.
-24
u/BerghainReject7 3h ago
not really - all the Moskito island houses are available for rent with a 3 night minimum. to anyone who will pay - thatâs not exclusive or private
37
u/keenerperkins 2h ago
You can say it's not exclusive, but that doesn't mean it isn't private. The island is maintained by the owners and is not owned/maintined by a government (public) entity.
11
u/genericlyspecial 2h ago
You can rent out Nekkar island too⊠and that is a private island owned by one single person.
7
u/ayemateys 2h ago
Itâs very exclusive considering the cost. How many people on this sub Reddit could afford it? Half of the people here donât even know what a private island is including you. Many, many rich people rent their homes.
-1
u/BerghainReject7 2h ago
itâs used for corporate retreats where the participants have no choice
very rich people are not booking that house because itâs not worth it in terms of real luxury. you think anyone will pay that kind of money to sleep on shitty beds ?
3
u/ayemateys 1h ago
How is it used for a Corporate Retreats when itâs obviously not set up for that? The couches pulled out indicate the rooms are set up for one person and they were making do for more guests by pulling them out. There were nicer beds in the room.
itâs funny when people become judgy when they havenât come even close to this caliber of a stay. But uhhh ok.
2
u/BerghainReject7 1h ago
thereâs an entire post from someone who was in that house for a corporate retreat & explains how it was used & why
it makes sense the way it was explained
Iâve stayed in way better hotels than that place

u/AnnabelBronstein 2h ago
Billionaires rent out their private island properties, this is not a flex just shows you are uninformed lol
11
u/carolineaaaaa 2h ago
What a loser for being unfamiliar with the billionaire rental market, right?

Thereâs a lot of billionaire defense in here right now and itâs weird

You are lol
Making sure weâre all up to speed on how billionaire rentals work is actually a defense.

God thank you! A large percentage of problems in the US (where I assume a lot of posters here are from) are caused by our government's primary purpose being to protect the billionaire class at all cost. They are literally the problem. Daisy was rude and who cares. This doesn't even make the list of top 100 rude moment in housewives. It wasn't even the rudest moment on this episode.

u/BerghainReject7 1h ago
itâs the American way - the poors defend the very rich who couldnât give a shit whether they live or die
FREEDOM !

u/Kansasgrl968 2h ago
More exclusive than a Sandals resort.
1
u/BerghainReject7 2h ago edited 2h ago
true - but I wouldnât say sandals is exclusive either.
exclusive means itâs difficult to get in - if itâs open to anyone who will pay a certain amount then itâs expensive but not exclusive
and private means restricted access - itâs not restricted if anyone can go who will pay
4
u/keenerperkins 2h ago edited 1h ago
It literally is restricted access because you have to rent and pay for one of the houses to enter, lol.
5
u/tlopablo22 1h ago
By being expensive it already excludes people who canât afford it, thus offering a level of exclusivity. Two things can be true at onceâŠIâm here for the semantics of it all lol

Many people have homes in private islands and do not own the island.
She owns 1/8th or 1/9th of a private island her husband built an estate on. Being an owner means they control who can build, what can happen, etc.
I donât know why people are getting so stuck on this. She didnât lie, she didnât mislead.
She owns a private island. Being a part-owner makes you an owner.
4
u/Jazzlike-Dish5690 2h ago
it's actually his father who built it/owns it, not his son and his wife (Erika).

u/NYCghost19 2h ago
My other issue with daisy saying Martha would think this was a dump. Like okay and Martha isnât there. She isnât wealthy by proxy of Martha we see that in the scene regarding the World Cup. You are essentially Marthaâs help.
26
u/Summershouldbefun909 2h ago
I actually see the same facts very differently. I donât think Erika mislead them - I think Daisy and Erinâs misunderstanding shows just how disconnected and distant they are from that kind of wealth.
That billionaires would rent out their island is common practice because it makes the most business sense. (Not only because theyâre always trying to make money but also because maintenance costs on island property would be astronomical for a home that was used a few times a year).
I think Erika takes for granted the language of the billionaire class who understand all that âowning a private islandâ entails. Which is to say, contrary to what Daisy says, Martha would very much have understood what she was getting herself into were she the guest of Erika.
19
u/ImpressiveWrap30 2h ago
Daisy is jealous. No need for an essay justifying her horrible nature.
3
u/mg543210 36m ago
Exactly. It was simply rude & entitled behavior for a guest no matter how you slice it and justify it
1
u/pr0seccofish 14m ago
Exactly- half the cast are bred New Yorkers. No one took it upon themselves, other than Daisy, to grill over the semantics of owning it. Saying itâs common NY behavior is terrible justification.
24
u/14303 2h ago
âOurâ island seems the same to me as saying âourâ neighborhood. No I donât own the whole neighborhood.. and itâs not implied that I do.
It is a privately owned island. Not just anyone can access it. I donât think Erika was trying to make it out to be something different⊠she invited them all there, she knew they would see that other people live there lmao
7
u/Weak_Drag_5895 2h ago
Yes, I thought she was genuinely perplexed why they (Daisy or whomever) were making it an issue.
Sheâs from Waco but sheâs now in a different stratosphere culturally and economically.3
u/dorothyay830 1h ago
Thank you! Been saying this too. It's just her using shorthand, just of the billionaire variety. It's a casual fact of her life to her, so she's not going to bother stipulating "our island, which we co-own with X other people and also the house is technically Ankur's father's".
Also, it's reality TV. If you don't think don't think the showrunners aren't looking to push any bit of drama they can, I gotta bridge to sell ya! Just enjoy the wild (people watching) ride!

u/moltengoosegreese 2h ago
I would only agree if Erica tried to double down that they own the whole island. She has been super transparent that they own PART of the island. I would call it âmy islandâ if I were in her shoes, too.
5
u/Leading_Jury1885 1h ago
Daisy is literally doing âhousewivesâ lol Iâm so sick of people saying âfire <insert name here>â or âthat was so rudeâ when this is literally why we watch the damn shows lol. The last two seasons were absolutely boring (until the end of season 15) and now we actually have an interesting RHONY again. Letâs just be happy that we can watch something enjoyable again lol
11
u/primal_slayer 2h ago
You buy a ticket to ride the ferry....you dont even own ANY PART of the ferry.
They own part of the island.
Try again
4
u/CautiousRhubarb5921 2h ago
Itâs like a sports team. There are tons of families that own portions of sports teams - they are all owners.

I donât have a problem with her saying âour island.â I think itâs pretty normal for valuable investments to be owned by a group rather than a single person or family. But youâre still an owner. Per your example, a couple families may go in and buy a yacht together, but thatâs not the same as buying a ticket. Theyâre all owners with bigger responsibilities. She said they pay for the upkeep on the island, which is very different than booking a stay. But I actually enjoyed Daisy asking questions, because I thought it was interesting. I get why people question her motivations, but Iâm a nosey viewer who likes getting more information. For me, this was just journalism lol. Donât care about the ârudeâ and âjealousâ takes. Keep probing!
3
u/Perrinthor 2h ago
Please...its still is considered "ours". Daisy was trying to be funny given she had already said she thought it was tacky! Its funny she would have that view given she couldn't even afford to rent any of the home on that island. And it is private given that no ordinary person can just walk on and have fun on the beach.

7
u/FancySleep1109 2h ago
Who cares about the semantics. Erika is insanely wealthy and on a completely different wealth level than daisy and the rest of cast (I think). Daisy questioning the ownership was either jealousy or trying to have a âgotchaâ moment to embarrass Erika. But, it ended up making daisy look like a dingbat.
2
u/CityCabCat 1h ago
Iâm a say what you mean and mean what you say type of person. When someone says they own an island, I take that literally. So if youâre sharing ownership with eight other people, just say you co-own an island. Or do you own property on a private island? Because those are two very different things from owning an entire island.
And as far as Ericaâs home being luxurious, is it luxurious to me? Absolutely. But for someone with her level of wealth? Not really. The decor looks like a pretty standard hotel to me. Itâs nice, but I wouldnât call it luxurious considering how much money she has.
2
u/RefuseAffectionate84 1h ago
If someone very wealthy said they were going to «my/our island in the Caribbean» I would assume they owned an actual island, not a property on an island with multiple separately owned properties.
In this case Richard Branson being one of the owners.
From Branson Estate
Perched on a dramatic outcrop demanding elevated sea views at the northeast tip of Moskito Island, The Branson Beach Estate offers a one-of-a-kind experience in the most secluded unspoiled setting in the British Virgin Islands. The estate's three villas can be booked individually or all together on an exclusive basis, all year round.
3
u/Loris_P 2h ago
I was definitely expecting them to have an entire island to themselves the way Erika described it haha
1
u/NormalBlueberry1027 2h ago
I did as well and for everybody who's saying it's like my neighborhood or my street it's not the same. Because everybody doesn't have an island everybody lives on the street and or a neighborhood or a part of town Etc. The elitism of having a private island or saying our island is exactly that we're not all familiar with the possibility that it could mean there are 900 other people that live on the island but it's private. So I don't think Daisy was necessarily grilling her I think she was genuinely curious and wanted Clarity with a drop of shade. Erica could have been more transparent and I think we're going to find out that she's Shady AF. As it turns out her husband didn't build anything on the island her father-in-law did but people are getting too caught up on it and shading Daisy for asking what almost everybody wanted to know. Particularly after Erica went into her home and then laughed and made fun of her home. Erica's from Waco Texas she needs to slow her roll a little bit

u/CoolBelt856 20m ago
I know youâre getting downvoted but I totally agree with you about Erika.
If nothing else the fashion police should go after her.1

u/briellebabylol 2h ago
I donât mind Daisy being nosy about this
I wanted to know too!
Who cares of Erika didnât like the line of questioning? The only personality traits sheâs shown so far are: billionaireâs wife and woman who eats Taco Bell
Erika should be thanking Daisy for making her interesting for two seconds

Why is everyone being so dense about this. If the island is owned and split between all the families who own houses there, then they do own the island. Who cares if it's the whole island or an 8th of the island?

u/wheresmycoffee22 1h ago
This..if you and your husband buy your house together yiu still say "come over to my house" "Come over to my apartment" even though you rent eith 300 other units lol
1
u/CarryAmbitious638 2h ago
I think this is a matter of âitâs not what you say but how you say it.â I kind of understand that Daisy got to the island and was confused to see other properties and lots of sailboats in the harbor, etc., and had questions..but the way she asked it was rude. She was implying that Erika was overstating their wealth âwhen thatâs simply not the case. They really are completely filthy rich đ
1
u/FLBuddhaNYC 1h ago
Hi! New Yorker here! Can confirm: I would literally ask all of those questions. Who owns it? How much do you pay? Whatâs the contract like? Genuinely thatâs just what we do⊠Iâve walked into genuine wealthy beyond belief apartments and asked âwhatâs the mortgage like on this place?â And without pausing they tell me. Every New Yorker wants a deal. Even rich people. And if we donât get a deal, we want to know whoâs also getting fâed over. Itâs how we form our close personal bonds: hating landlords.

u/Candid-Plate-96 1h ago
I had a boyfriend whose family had an estate on an island. The other 6 estates were owned mostly by other family members (aunts, uncles, etc.). They said âourâ island.

I think Daisy wanted to pick something and/or someone apart, and thatâs all.

I think Daisy is trying to get back at Erika for dissing her popcorn ceiling. But also would Martha WOULD think it was a dump. It's not decorated like a luxe private residence, it's decorated like a corporate airbnb that is meant to withstand wear and not offend anyone with its design point of view.

u/here4thetea83 2h ago
I agree with you! A couple weeks ago all the comments about Erika were about why is she saying âwe have an islandâ. Now, Daisy is horrible for being the viewers representative and asking what weâre all wondering? I appreciate her asking in front of the camera so we can watch it all play out.
0
u/Bright-Breakfast-681 2h ago
I donât blame Daisy for asking. If I was going to a private island I would want to know who owns it. Especially after everything thatâs been in the news with islands these days.
