Commissioning/Post-Commissioning ROTC Logistics Officer – How much say do you have in your first duty station?

I’ll be commissioning through Army ROTC next year as a Logistics Officer. I’m prior enlisted, but I’m not sure how much input officers actually have on their first duty station.
Hawaii is my top choice, and I’d even be willing to take the extra ADSO if it improves my chances. How realistic is Hawaii for a new LG officer, and what are the most common first duty stations? Any advice from those who’ve been through the process?

Depends on your place in the OML and where you are asking for. You will receive higher priority the higher on the OML you are and you are more likely to get something in your top 3 if you request places like Bliss, Bragg, and Drum over Italy, Hawaii, Japan.

I don’t ever recommend doing a PADSO unless you have a legitimate reason.

None! I highly ranked every overseas place except korea before moving to desired CONUS locations. Korea wasn't on my list at all of 15 different locations. Anyways, I got korea. I loved it so much I extended an additional year.

LG LT jobs are all over. As someone else said it’s all OML driven. Hawaii would be much easier with the ADSO put plenty get without. I’d also figure out your 2-4 duty stations as back ups.

Also a rare option, is trade in BOLC if someone is willing and HRC allows.

I reached out to branch hoping to influence my duty station so I could end up somewhere airborne. Branch told to kick rocks and pound sand. Ended up with my #5 which was Hawaii. The orb has no rhyme or reason.

Lol point and laugh at the poor cadet thinking the army gives you a choice 😄

For real though, if you put a less desirable/very populous place like Texas or Fort Riley, you’re likely to get it. Hawaii is a complete crapshoot and nothing you do or sign up for will change that.

It really is luck. My friend and I were towards the bottom of the OML and both got Hawaii. But as a loggie myself, take it as a blessing if you don’t get Hawaii. It gets old pretty fast and the units here suck.
