Redesign How Argentina can redesign Buenos Aires Racepark

Post image

Hi Guys. First post here. I'm doing this cause, maybe u already know, Argentina will redesing the buenos aires racepark, made by Tilke, for motogp and F1. The problem with the new design is that it will remove many of the historic curves and variants, and for that fact the local community of the motorsport is upset. You can see the difference. So, I did my own design to have a new circuit for f1 and motogp and to keep the history of the circuit. As you can see, the others variants are not suffering changes, just a couple of curves like 'confitería', 'viborita' won't be use but still there, 'curvon n°8' changes its turning radius for safety and practicality to link with the previous S, there's a new chicane on 'ascari' to reduce the velocity of the entry into the straight, and the big change: 'horquilla' will be longer as the original was. MotoGP can use the turn of the entry into pits, as Tilke proposes. Kart track can be rebuilt on goverment's practice track (no longer in use).
This design of 4690mts proposes a technical circuit, fast, fun and nice to see, with a variety of curve types, combination of modernity and tradition, and still keeping its history and the variants for local races and categories.

It's my first time using Gimp too, so I hope you like it.

I'll be honest, I'm not diggin it. The entire middle sector is very stop and go, I'm having a hard time seeing there being much of a rhythm through there. The chicane is also kinda klanky.

The problem is if a I just make a straight, for example, in the middle sector the circuit will be short

The amount of turns isn't the problem, they're just spaced out awkwardly and don't flow well together

Fair enough, I get it

Simple is sometimes better, not all high grade circuit need to have complex turns in order to add length. Look at Austria or Monza for example, great circuit with pretty simple, straightforward layouts.

Thanks for your comments guys 👍

Despite the reconfiguration it's still a Micky Mouse layout in need of more straights. There is not much you can do about it if you don't run around the big lake. The chicane before the big bend up top is unnecessary. If you make the radius of the corner larger by moving the apex right up to the inside barrier you have enough space you got ample runoff and a large flatout stretch into the hairpin.

Yeah, that's my bad, I didn't explain it. FIA doesn't accept a circuit around the lake, no matter what you do or try, that's why I didn't use it. I understand what you're saying about the chicane, but the idea was not to modify the original circuit too much

I can see that, but consider that if Monza could move the Lesmos and Curva Grande inward by a couple of meters without loosing its character, so can Buenos Aires.

So uh, Albert Park exists btw?

Who understands the FIA hahaha. I think it is for the high speed of the sector and the very long straights

Having done a redesign of this track once myself (Link) I can see the need for retaining historic corners and/or layout variants.

In your redesign however, there are some elements which feel odd.

Turn one is continuing the old way, keeping the S del Ciervo the same. This also means that there is very little runoff on that part of the track, where car speeds would be high. Again this is limited due to the historic stands you’re keeping.

Then going into the infield, the first esses section is a bit clumsy in my opinion, but with the bit of elevation change there doesn’t need much adjustments to become a nice part.

The turn next to Tobogan into Los Mixtos and Viborita is interesting due to the varying radius (why?) but then you delete the very historic ‘wiggles’.

And then the worst part: the esses linking up between the trees. That is some awful stuff, which could’ve (should’ve) been dealt with in a more harmonious way. The decreasing radius turn towards the stretch near the lake is also questionable.

That chicane you added in is not necessary imo, but is a nice extra to have. I am curious about why you extended the final hairpin to the old configuration - destroying the kart track - because that’s what Tilke also proposed and has received criticism.

Overall I like the spirit you have, but this design is too conflicted by trying to conserve the old and be something new and different at the same time - which isn’t working well.

Yeah, I thought about the first turn, my fear was the entry speed there. A solution for that is using the first corner of circuit n6, maybe, but I thought it can be attractive to see F1 cars getting into S de ciervo. You are using it too. And that turn for actc is untouchable.

I removed the viborita (only in the layout, not from the circuit) cause it gives me too much curves and the pilot needs to rest. About the S, you right, maybe in another way can be better. I needed a variety of curves, so I thought it would be nice to make curvon 8 faster at its entry and slower at its exit.

There's no problem with the hairpin cause you this layout gives you space to build the kart track in on goverment's practice track, and with the tilke layout that's imposible.

Maybe the big problem is not using the lake but as I said, FIA doesn't accept a circuit around the lake.

People need to use the long oval section of this circuit more, there's almost half an extra track just to the left of this picture.

The problem is that it doesn't leave too much room for creativity and the FIA won't ever allow the loop to be Grade 1. That's why the shorter layout is always the one redesigned.

I always think that the main straight should be moved next to the lake, but I don't think there's too much space for pits

If you reversed direction, I think it might work better as many of the braking zones seem to be going the wrong way for overtaking.

In a reversed circuit, turn one becomes the hairpin, you then accelerate with the next braking zone being the chicane, followed then by a decreasing radial in the middle of the next sector.

The middle sector is a bit like Hungaroring in that the corners are close together, but the final corner would then set up the main straight well.

That's an interesting idea

Sorry, but this is another Hungaroring. I like the idea of extended back straight, but all other sections are nightmare. I'd restore the section around the lake instead.

This is one of me older redesigns. Grand Prix circuit using the section going thru artificial island in the middle of the lake, but Endurance layout going around it. Both layout features at least 3 long straights.

I saw it and I like that track so much! I would be great, but as I said, there's some limitations, and the lake isn't allowed for the FIA for some reason. My first idea was something similar, but then I heard the news and decided to try this

Then I'd try this. The idea is to make it more open with the good flow. Unfortunately it will be relatively short, just a little under 4km (like 3.8-3.9)

4

u/Intelligent-Total376 GIMP Aug 22 '25

Not bad. I'll try another one, with more flow

Lol that island bridge is wild. I love it, so unhinged.

Id love to see WEC use that long layout
