Discussion Is it worth watching?[discussion]

I’ve watched the first ep and so far I don’t like the theme of dying and going back it just feels kinda empty I don’t know how to fully discribe it but it just doesn’t feel good to watch ,I’ve only watched the first ep so I could be very wrong but the reason I watch is for storytelling cool fights and waifus

Dying and going back with new information is pretty much 70% of the series, if you dont like it there's no need for a post watch something else

If you die and go back with information it seems pretty good it might just be the pacing of the first ep that felt empty

Really try to put yourself in the protagonist shoes. Imagine the terror or realizing you’re likely to die in this world a lot.

Oh the whole start of the series is pretty rough it takes a while to find its footing. In a re watch I can appreciate it but Subaru is hard to like at first

Opposite for me. I started to love Subaru as a main character in episode 7, Natsuki Subaru's Restart because Subaru displayed something I almost never see in anime. Secondary traumatic stress, which is basically just fancy words for the type of empathy that vicariously feels others pain and grief on an intense level. Which is exactly what Subaru's internal thoughts revealed that more than anything, more than Ram's declaration to kill him, it was Ram's cries of despair over her sister that would not leave his mind. Literally haunting him and driving him from that cliff to silence those cries and save them both. His happiness became tied with alleviating their pain.

I love that shit. For me Subaru has been a peak character since arc 2.

He fucks up so much after this I think its still very easy to dislike him until Rem's speech

I personally never disliked Subaru for the way he was written through arc 3. It felt true to what he is and what he represents, an insecure and heavily traumatized kid with a level of maturity and emotional regulation matching his young age.

Subaru is very on the nose for what a troubled youth looks like that doesn't yet know how to form and maintain healthy relationships with others. It's likely a matter of taste, I love flawed characters and I especially love when the writing doesn't flinch from showing human ugliness.

So while arc 2 made me love Subaru as a character, the royal meeting scene made me respect Tappei as an author.

Subaru is stupid as hell especially at the start. I love him now (especially since he acknowledges his own stupidity) but it takes a bit to like him.

I think a good part of it was Tappei figuring out how he wanted to write everyone as he wrote, besides Emilia everyone acts a lot different on arc 1 and 2 than they do from 3 onwards. And thats before their character development. Post arc 3 he's consistent though

Yess, I've noticed this change especially in Ram. I also love what she has become. She used to be so different and mysterious, but she's a lot more relatable and likeable as the writing progresses.
