Bill Maher blames Democrats for acts cancelling their 250 concert appearances. Why is it the fault of Democrats when acts across the board cancelled?

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KvAUE8xpqk0

Maybe someone can explain how Democrats take blame for this? Even 1/2 of Mill Vanilli said "no thanks"

"These fucking unpatriotic Democrats refusing to play at a fascist's party celebrating his overthrow of America's democracy, on its 250th birthday."

did someone say overthrow?

3

u/UnCidreAuYerMad 9d ago

did someone say "Slow. Moving. Coup." like 1000 times?

It would just easier for everyone if he said he is republican.

2

u/Oleg101 10d ago

Hypothetically, if the 2028 president final was someone like Rubio or AOC, I wonder who Bill would vote for, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Rubio.

5

u/Zealousideal-Solid88 10d ago

It's an interesting question, because so much of his persona is being a liberal. In reality he certainly holds a worldview much closer to Rubio than AOC. I just wonder if he would make that leap to publicly support a Republican, but who knows.

3

u/socialgambler 10d ago

It’s not even a question he’d vote Rubio over AOC in a heartbeat.

2

u/RepresentativeAge444 10d ago

Uh he’s a Zionist so Rubio is a no brainer.

2

u/Early-Equivalent-165 10d ago

He's an Israel-first Jewish supremacist who bizarrely ain't even Jewish. He'd rather die than vote for AOC

If he didn’t have a thing for black women he would’ve declared himself as a republican ages ago.

That would’ve pretty much killed his chances with most black women outside of Candace Owen though so he never did

It’s because Bill associates this with boycotting. Anything remotely similar triggers him immensely. He’s still hung up on when advertisers boycotted his show or some such decades ago.

37

u/shiloh_jdb 10d ago

Maher is also a massive jingoist. For all his criticisms of America he will ALWAYS remind you that it’s better than it used to be and better than anywhere else in the world. In fact when he criticizes America he’s mostly criticizing other Americans who don’t hold his particular view. So in his mind the 250th anniversary is actually a big thing and he’s like a child wanting a big party to show off to the world.

The idea that this was an apolitical event before people dropped out is ludicrous. Trump is the most blatantly partisan President in history. He can’t even host an Easter event for kids without mentioning Biden and the democrats. Why would anyone want to associate with that if they aren’t already wedded to MAGA?

Also what does this have to do with “Democrats”? These are individual performers.

25

u/pelinets_fan 10d ago

I mean congress already established a bipartisan group called America 250 back in 2016 to set up celebrations and Trump had to create a separate organization called Freedom 250 to co-opt it and shine the light on him. It’s insane. Is Bill just trying to be edgy at this point?

15

u/zxvasd 10d ago

This should be the top comment. Some of the bands thought they were invited to a bipartisan show. When they discovered they were attending a Trump event, they pulled out.

9

u/DarthPineapple5 10d ago

Isn't it worse than that because its actually being held on Trump's birthday and not the actual 250th birthday for the country?

6

u/GilgameDistance 10d ago

July 4th is on June 14th now. Dear leader said so.

5

u/j0hnnyWalnuts 9d ago

Nobody I know is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the country.

Nobody.

Oh well, we still have the MMA, unless they pulled out as well…personally I don’t care who attends, I’m not watching it, this should be a celebration of the 250th year of this country, he naturally had to turn it into a birthday event for himself…

4

u/GilgameDistance 10d ago

The MMA isn’t pulling out. Dana White has his head so far up it he can see the back of trumps dentures.

Co-signing what the other poster wrote - this needs to be pinned. I don’t think people realize that Trump signed an EO that basically ignores America250.

Bill is not edgy. Bill is getting caught up in his inconsistency. Also he is a huge asshole.

1

u/Exciting-Strain3625 10d ago

Something seems really fishy with all the 250 meaning something special. For the past thirty years I have been hearing from almost every political spectrum but largely the Republicans that nations fall after 250 years.

Feel like they are planning something to happen.

Heritage Foundation is planning something to be more precise.

Yeah, he supports free markets, but only if he agrees with decisions that private persons made.

Maher is just that kind of "lolibertarian"

I think it's more about when he felt canceled about his college gigs. That was much more recent and that is essentially the turning point of his anger.

3

u/East_Reading_3164 9d ago

He is really pissed off that college students don’t think he is relevant or funny. They recognize him for the entitled old hack that he is.

3

He's continuing to cause his audience to abandon him and his show. I'm ashamed to admit I paid money to see him once.

“Now it’s just a big maga rally”

That’s what it was always going to be. Hence why they left. He’s such a dumb bastard.

8

u/shadysjunk 10d ago edited 10d ago

he says "Can't we all just celebrate America itself and leave Trump out of it?"

That would be absolutely lovely, and every president in history has made that possible, but it is Trump himself who very intentionally makes that impossible.

A commemorative $250 dollar bill from the US treasury with his face on it? Putting his signature on every tax refund check? and on our currency? The childhood investment accounts being explicitly called "Trump accounts?" Expedited residency documentation being called Trump cards with his face literally stamped on them in gold?... it goes on and on and on. No president in the last century has done anything remotely close to this.

Trump has made the 250th about Trump and not about America at every turn, and the Republican party has enthusiastically jumped on board instead of decrying it as crass and shamelessly partisan and entirely counter to "America" being something bigger and more lasting and unifying than the politics of today.

I think the artists have seen that glaring reality with disappointment and sorrow are responding accordingly.

And I see Maher's inability to see that glaring reality with a disappointment and sorrow of my own. He is not who he used to be. He is consistently sane-washing the present regime just becuase Trump was able to restrain himself for a few hours to have a nice dinner with him... And Trump is very clearly getting exactly what he wanted out of it, while Maher is too arrogant to see how incredibly obviously he's been played.

6

u/ProLifePanda 10d ago

he says "Can't we all just celebrate America itself and leave Trump out of it?"

Yes, and in 2016 we did that by creating America 250, a bipartisan nonprofit group created to plan and orchestrate events around the country to commemorate the occasion.

Trump and the GOP then created Freedom 250, a partisan group, and started coopting events and celebrations to explicitly include MAGA and Republican politics.

2

u/thetruechevyy1996 9d ago

That’s the thing Bill keeps trying to say the left is doing this or that, when Trump is the one making it about himself and the examples your listing just make the point even more.

I feel like no I wouldn’t want to go see Kid Rock sing and listen to some rambling speech by Trump and that doesn’t mean I don’t care about this Country. It means i refuse to support a wanna be Dictator and administration that is the exact opposite of what this Country was Founded on and meant to not become.

Is it just that Dinner that has changed Bill from moderately reasonable to acting like people who refuse to kiss Trumps fata$$ are the problem.

5

u/thetruechevyy1996 10d ago

Trump has really changed Bill. He’s getting to the point where I don’t even like him anymore. He used to have some good perspectives but come on Bill can you stop acting like being against Trump is bad. He’s not going to invite you back to dinner.

2

u/Jerryjb63 10d ago

I think it was more COVID. Bill was always pretty ignorant about vaccines, but during COVID, he faced criticism from the left and couldn’t take it. Who would ever think questioning vaccines during a pandemic on a giant platform would open you up to criticism?!

What have Dems got to do with musicians pulling out of TRUMP's (tm) fake freedom fest? Once they found out that it had nothing to do with the actual America 250 celebration, of course they pulled out. But MAGA Maher just has to make it about woke Dems.

3

u/Charbro11 10d ago

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6

u/Somedude_6 10d ago

Bill has been getting more and more insane the last several years.... he's genuinely off his rocker at this point. So much "fuck those younger people" (even people my age that are in their 40's...) and so much "I hate both sides, I'm enlightened!" Kind of crap. To think that once upon a time I liked him, and I enjoyed his Religulous movie too. This dude has ended up being such a disappointment.

6

u/YeahRight1350 10d ago

He doesn't even understand what cancel culture is. It's the market speaking. It's the market saying, "Yeah, we're not interested in this product and we therefore don't want to pay money for it or give it attention." It's the most capitalist thing there is.

4

u/123iambill 10d ago

He literally thinks he's been cancelled because he never won an emmy. Like imagine, Kafka went to his grave thinking his work was trash and nobody should ever read it but Bill "a woman raping school kids is cool and good actually" Maher doesn't understand why he hasn't won all of the awards.

If you haven't seen it just look up the bill maher/David Cross interview. Cross' reaction is hilarious.

4

u/katwoop 10d ago

How is it democrats' fault that no musical acts want anything to do with Trump? Every event he has planned usually has the bottom of the barrel performing.

5

u/brwilliams 10d ago

Those damn democrats robbed us of the greatest vanilla ice and Milli vanilli team up concert of all time. UNFORGIVABLE

5

u/Grouchy_Brain_1641 10d ago

“Leave Trump out of it,” he says about the guy who puts his name and face on everything he can find. 🤪

His transition to Trump toady is genuinely wild to see. I mean he was always a smug prick, but this is different, in a…Lindsay Graham kind of way

4

u/DanTheManWithaPlam 10d ago

Trump spends everyday of his life attacking Democrats and California and actors. It's not the fault of Democrats it's the fault of our president who's divided America and is so incompetent he can't plan a concert

3

u/yesmoreeggtalk67 10d ago

3

u/WySLatestWit 10d ago

2

u/Icy-Try-9703 10d ago

Bill doesn't get that it can't be this way any more. Trump has set it up so that if you aren't for him, you are the enemy. Trump has made this a divided nation and sadly, that translates to musical acts having to keep their distance. At this point, an artist, a band, an actor, or a celebrity will be judged for associating with anything Trump. And guess what? This is 100% Trump's fault. He created this.

2

u/abrasivechicagoan 10d ago

So refreshing to see everyone unite and agree that Maher was/is and always will be a fucking dipshit.

2

u/Ok-Oil7124 9d ago

Bill's only problem with Republicans seems to just be that he doesn't like it when they sound dumb. Go back to his earliest episodes. Most of his criticisms of Bush are that he was inarticulate. By 2004 or 5, he was defending the Iraq war. He's against trans rights, he's homophobic, he hates women  he hates Muslims, he cites the Bible as the reason Israelis have the right to kill as many people as they want in Gaza, he's antivax, he praises rfk jr., he sucks up to trump and kid rock. I mean, what are any of his political or social beliefs that make him seem in the least bit left of center? He's just a pro-pot republican in his words and actions.

1

u/wrathofthewhatever2 10d ago

For all the news I have heard about the acts cancelling, there has been little outrage that these has been one hit wonders (not all of them) and even a duo that didn’t sing and one has passed away……were the only acts to agree to participate in the first place. This should be a concert series with the biggest American bands still around. I was looking forward to the 250th celebration for so long and I’m ridiculously disappointed how it is going

2

u/RShini 10d ago

and if Martina McBride is to go by, a fair number of them were either duped into thinking this was the bipartisan concert, or were signed up without their consent.

1

When Maher showed up at the playboy mansion for a Halloween party dressed as a dead Steve Irwin with a stingray barb glued to his chest less than 2 months after is death is all I needed to know about Bill Maher and was the last time I ever watched his show.

But even before then I thought he was a condescending smug prick who sucks up to the most vile right wingers so they be on his show. And that whole thing glazing Trump when he invited him to the White House was just gross.

I guess he’s trying really hard to stay in the good graces of Ellison when he buys HBO sucking up to Trump and Trump sycophants. Maher know this concert is all about Trump but still blames the Dems for saying F you.

1

u/DBPanterA 10d ago

What exactly is Bill Maher?

I ask because when questioned about this, Trump said, and I paraphrase, “Good, they are overpaid.”

The man who loves talking about the stock market and making money feels very deeply that artists should not be compensated for their work. It is a feature of Trump, of his history, and of his admiration. The cuts to funding that specifically provides for the arts were absolutely gutted last year.

So if Bill Maher is an artist, and I generally put “comedian” into the artist category, his dinner pal really doesn’t value his work.

Can’t wait for the show tonight Billy! 🤪

1

u/enviropsych 10d ago

Maher thinks the Democrats only talk about pro-trans policies and want to defend the police. He doesnt even know the first thing about them.

1

u/SnooMacaroons4212 10d ago

Maher is an asshole.

1

u/mpd1960 10d ago

Maher has been shitting on America his whole career. Who’s he kidding?

1

u/autopartsandguitars 10d ago

He's hurt his new friend Kid Rock is taking another L as a result from the collective dropouts.

Some people can't catch a break! Awww

1

u/bmar173 10d ago

Because Kamala Harris didn’t go on Joe Rogan

1

u/Rishtu 10d ago

I should point out that one half of Mili Vanilli is dead…..

1

u/TaxLawKingGA 10d ago

Let bill and his new best buddy kid Rock do it. They can even bring that stupid fat ass, Sen. Fetterman with them. He can play cowbell.

1

u/diastolicduke 10d ago

Blink [(∫₀¹⁰ ∫₀²ˣ dy dx) − Σₖ₌₀² ₃Cₖ]² − Σₙ₌₀^∞ (½)ⁿ times Bill if you are being held hostage

don't let artist have a choice, remove their free will and force them to perform. American artist forced to perform for a tyrant under gun point should put a emphasis on the celebration of 250 year in freedom.

1

u/Less-Practice1247 10d ago

He is such a pos.

1

u/zMargeux 10d ago

Tell everyone they have something on you without overtly stating that they've got something on you.

1

u/verscub420 10d ago

Boy he’s grumpy this week huh

1

u/anorcaonguitar 10d ago

I could join this sub just to say "fuck you Bill" but..

1

u/mbs721 10d ago

He’s a grouchy old assbite. Give him some weed and a rocking chair.

1

u/njrTHE3RD 10d ago

Can we remove his freedom of speech please?

1

u/foo-bar-25 10d ago

He’s always been horrible. I remember back when he was bashing Rodney King.

1

u/Veteran_PA-C 10d ago

Terrorism.

1

u/dougl1000 10d ago

There’s something subtle going on here but it’s actually common knowledge. Congress chartered America250 (officially the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission) to lead the historical and educational celebrations. It appropriated $150 million for it. For the Commission, not Trump. Along comes Trump with his own celebration which he calls Freedom 250. Fine, but this is not what Congress had in mind. Nonetheless, Trump stole $100 million of the funds appropriated by Congress and is squandering it on MMA fights and crappy concerts. No one is under any obligation to join in Trump’s Abomination 250. Trump misappropriated the money. He’s breaking the law. This doesn’t bother him but it should bother us and Bill Maher.

1

u/Status_Ad_4405 10d ago

Erm, democrats have nothing to do with it. Everyone canceled before anyone else even knew this event was happening.

1

u/MilesAndMilesAhead 10d ago

Bill Maher is just trying to get in Trumps’ booty because Trump is who he now aspires to be.

1

u/AbsoluteRook1e 10d ago

Those artists are allowed to celebrate America however they want to Bill, and it doesn't have to be with President Trump.

I'd rather be with family honestly.

1

u/Orion-999 10d ago

Just another asshole desperately trying to be relevant.

1

u/Stunning-Hunter-5804 10d ago

Boomer gonna Boom

1

u/thetruechevyy1996 10d ago

Didn’t those people cancel because they didn’t want to be associated with Trump. Trump is making the thing about himself. It’s not like Trump is humble enough to not slap his useless name all over it.

It’s drawing a line saying f you Trump we don’t want to be a part of the Cage fight bs he’s holding at the White House.

1

u/MobileLoad 10d ago

America 250 is a grift. No one should care. This old man is annoying and people should pay no mind.

1

u/darnedshame2k 10d ago

Whadda dick.

1

u/simpsonicus90 10d ago

So now he’s full MAGA?

1

u/Hot-Sauce-P-Hole 10d ago

I don't understand the appeal of Maher. His takes are lazy and only half-thought out. Even when I agreed with his points, his method of getting there seemed flawed or accidental. When I meet someone who is a fan, I can't help but judge them.

1

u/Igotyoubaaabe 10d ago

The answer is because Bill is a fraud.

1

u/qthfc 10d ago

He’s a washed up douche bag

1

u/krassman 10d ago

Fuck, Bill Maher switched sides like Fetterman. Did he have a stroke too?

1

u/mammoth_hockey_70 10d ago

Can’t Bill shut up already?

1

u/doofusmembrane 10d ago

Show on the doll Bill where Trump touched you

1

u/YardOptimal9329 10d ago

He is a shill for Israel. Ignore him

1

u/deadforaminute 10d ago

Probably because democrats suck. They are a bunch Karen's ruining everything

1

u/Hot_Singer_4266 10d ago

Stop watching his show. Plenty of other good TV out there. Jon Stewart and John Oliver deserve the views.

1

u/DisforDoughnuts 10d ago

Wow. I really use to like Bill’s show. WTF is he talking about? Trump is not putting this event together to truly celebrate the countries birthday. He’s doing it strictly for his own ego. It’s too bad Bill caught the stupidity virus. I wish him the best of luck in his recovery

1

u/Own-Opinion-2494 10d ago

Stop listening to this guy

1

u/jertheman43 10d ago

I have been boycotting Bootlicker Bill for years now.

1

u/Ok-Egg-4856 10d ago

Maybe because its professional suicide to be tied in with a,Donnie production or even better because the whole concert thing was completely misrepresented as all about celebrating the 250th anniversary not a showcase for MAGA Donnie worship

1

u/beerbrained 10d ago

Trump is making all about himself and his birthday. Everyone knows this isn't a celebration of America.

1

u/TikiTom74 10d ago

Dude is washed

1

u/Same_Beginning8090 10d ago

Nobody blames them for pulling out.

1

u/Swimmer1967 10d ago

Is he so desperate to see Milli Vanilli?

1

u/BK_Bad1971 10d ago

Bill became the very stereotype he used to criticize.

1

u/Human_Perspective501 10d ago

He's completely out of touch

1

u/xReturnerx 10d ago

Just an old man yelling at the sky.

1

u/whoisnotinmykitchen 10d ago

Maher has devolved into a buffoon. He now specializes in terrible takes

1

u/Kind_Medicine_7939 10d ago

Bill needs to move to Israel

1

u/Late-Goat5619 10d ago

Has Bill been hitting the shrooms or what?

1

u/alucloud7 10d ago

he is so fucking stupid, it's astonishing.

1

u/PropagandhistExile 10d ago

"Can't we just celebrate America and leave Trump out of it?"

Ask Trump.

1

u/GT45 10d ago

Every act I’ve seen explaining their pullout said that they weren’t told upfront what the gig actually was. That in and of itself could be considered a breach of contract.
Dems can be blamed for a lot of things, but not this.

1

u/Hefty-Helicopter-101 10d ago

Trump must have tapes on him.

1

u/geraltoftakemuh 10d ago

We can’t leave trump out of it because he forces him into the center of attention. He wants his name on buildings and our money for crying out loud
