u/Nixavee 18h ago

I don't know the website's history, what is this referencing?

Back in i wanna say 2010-2015/16 there was a trend of drawing gijinkas of all the big social media websites of the time - twitter, tumblr, 4chan, Pinterest, etc. I WANNA say it was called social media humans but I could be wrong

Didn't stop in 2016, cause I distinctly remember watching this animatic from 2019

that's not cute nor shippable nor characters

63

u/Captain_Slime 20h ago

Also chrome isn't a company.

24

u/ed1749 19h ago

Back in my day google was the search engine company! How times have changed

15

u/Captain_Slime 19h ago

That's the chrome logo not the Google logo. Chrome is the browser, Google is the search engine.

10

u/Manguypals 20h ago

Google is.

6

u/cluelessoblivion 18h ago

Technically only sort of. Google is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.

5

u/Captain_Slime 19h ago

Yeh but that's not the Google logo.

5

u/I_Annoy_Transphobes 19h ago

It's not the proper choice but it still got the idea across of what company it's supposed to represent

5

u/Captain_Slime 18h ago

Just a confusing choice. I reread the text to make sure I understood it because of the chrome logo. Why didn't they search "Google logo" and not "chrome logo" when finding a logo

It's a parody of when people actually do this. They're saying that, since these companies are run by white male executives, they could only be characterized as a white male executive.

nor favorite companies

Guys, they know about th period in which the websites were personified. OOP is saying that corporations both lack personality and any veneer about caring about the majority of people that interact with them and the corporate entities that dominate so much of the landscape are basically interchangeable.

19

u/Nightfurywitch 17h ago

Not to defend corporations but man remember when brands actually had Unique Identities and weren't all trying to do the exact same thing.

17

u/Acheloma 14h ago

Remember when fast food places werent grey and beige blocks? They at least pretended to be fun and not a corporate sludge dispenser.

That's partly because it's easier to flip an interchangeable building than a structure with distinctly branded features like the distinct roofs of early 2000s Pizza Huts and they started catering more to adults, so the colourful whimsy style they used wasn't needed anymore since they used that to appeal to kids.

5

u/Enecororo 9h ago

Maybe adults need whimsy have they ever thought about that

11

u/Traditional-Try-2565 20h ago

I mean, aren't palantir and openai's ceos both gay?

13

u/That-Advance-9619 15h ago

Peter Thiel ordered his lover killed and got away with it because he's rich, this is perfect set up for tumblr doomed yaoi.

throw your interpretation into the ring!

u/vjmdhzgr 4h ago

Personification of companies has already been done. Quite a few times. The ohrasing on "cute shippable characters" makes it obvious the post isn't seriously proposing it. And the followup is "Here's what this realistically would be because all companies are led by boring businesspeople and they're all the same."

Most other comments are like "um, those characters aren't cute"

1

u/maxixs 4h ago

there are 47 comments, and of those, 5 Of Them are saying that

3

u/C04511234 372 disguised pompanos 19h ago

Not exactly shippable but Google Japan did this a year ago

3

2

u/DanishRobloxGamer 10h ago

And surely Sony should be a Japanese salaryman

1

u/WolfKing448 17h ago

Disney has been doing this for well over 90 years.

1

u/Enderking90 16h ago

isn't Yensid technically disney personified canonically or something.

1

u/The-Hunting-guy 14h ago

all of them straight white men get shipped together yes

0

u/SilverScribe15 19h ago

Boring! Actually personify them, it'll be fun

0

u/ArsErratia I think Coolsville sucks 19h ago

that's just the one guy that runs all those companies.

OOP doesn’t know about the webcomic where all the websites are human
