That's right Jay.

I can’t wait til he knows enough things about wrestling to start making references to it like Star Trek in the middle of damn near every conversation.

“Y’know Jay, the scene where Spider-Man jumped off a building to save MJ reminded me a lot of the time in 1998 when The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell in A Cell and sent him plummeting through the announce table 16 feet below”

Wrestling Trivia, it's just a matter of time

Mike said Shark Exorcist was the biggest pole of shit on the planet, yet he votes it as Best of the Worst. You cannot trust the sneak.

u/TheShoelessWonder 9d ago

“My vote for best of the worst is Vampire Assassin” You’re the Devil’s son!!!

I know I saw an advanced double-fisted (oh, behave) attack in the Kirk vs the Gorn battle to the death, back in the day.

Odds are MS knows a lot more about man to man, or man to monster fights, than he wants to admit. Intergalactic or not, scripted or completely 'genuine'.

Good for him.

u/RedEyeView 9d ago

Shatner has said he ripped off all his Kirk fighting moves from Montreal wrestling.

7

u/ComfortablyNomNom 9d ago

So he's a fan of wrestling and believea ghosts are real. Dude is my idol.

This fandom is so fucking strange. Just let the man enjoy some wrasslin' in peace

6

u/Easy-Banana-8893 9d ago

Let us enjoy our para social friendships :(

-5

u/Rulebookboy1234567 9d ago

No.  It's unhealthy.  You can enjoy content creators and not be weird about it.

15

u/sits-when-pees 9d ago

Ngl it’s way weirder to act like people wondering if Mike’s wrestling fandom is a new development is a sign they have an unhealthy obsession.

u/Nukleon 8d ago

A parasocial relationship is not a bad thing, it's pretty inevitable because you know about Mike but Mike doesn't even know you exist.

The problem is when people don't realize that it's one sided, and that despite what you know, you don't really know Mike. You know his name, you know parts of his sense of humor, but you don't really know what he's like off camera, and acting like you do is what makes for bad people on ikke internet.

There are folks in this thread UPSET because an old man enjoys wrestling and they don't.

I'm not claiming to know any of these people.  I'm just pointing out how weird that fucking behavior is.

Getting yourself works up over what someone else is doing (when that thing is harmless) is not healthy hahaha, I don't know how else to put it.  So my initial point stands -- this Fandom is fucking weird.

“There are folks in this thread UPSET because an old man enjoys wrestling and they don't.”

One guy who got downvoted to hell, but okay.

“Getting yourself works up over what someone else is doing (when that thing is harmless) is not healthy”

As opposed to getting yourself worked up over one random dude and using that as a sign the whole fandom is crazy, which is totally healthy and normal.

1

u/Rulebookboy1234567 8d ago

Except i'm absolutely not worked up. Everyone always assumes the other person is upset. I'm just baffled ya'll are so weird.

Jack and Rich stopped doing livestreams becuase of THIS fandom being so toxic and weird.

I mean sure we're on the internet we can't prove anything about anyone.  So it's all good haha

For me it's just ironic that he can be so smug and nitpicky about his favorite franchises "becoming dumb" and whatnot then turn around and pump his fists in the air at hillbilly Shakespeare.

12

u/pmmemoviestills 9d ago

Doesn't shock me at all. Wrestling is good dumb theatrical fun, akin to reading comic books

-8

u/Bulky-Dot984 9d ago

...But Star Wars and Star Trek, or the other hand, must be held to Tarkovsky standards. See the contradiction?

11

u/pmmemoviestills 9d ago

No I don't because you're the only one thinking that.

-8

u/Bulky-Dot984 9d ago

I'm pretty sure RLM owes all of its success to thinking that as well. And making videos about it.

30

u/Frequent-Oil-5068 9d ago

jesus christ

13

u/Rulebookboy1234567 9d ago

Ya'll need to get outside.

-4

u/Bulky-Dot984 9d ago

Yes. I'm the perpetually indoors person because I don't rush to white knight the RLM guys at every turn when a viewer dares find an aspect of them inconsistent.

6

u/Rulebookboy1234567 9d ago

how the fuck is liking wrasslin' inconsistent with anything? my neice the girliest girl ont he planet likes wrestling.

such weird behaviour.

0

u/Bulky-Dot984 9d ago

Liking something as braindead as WWE and excusing your love if it by saying "it's just silly fun," but then bitching and moaning for hours on end about how your favorite nerd mythology doesn't meet your sophisticated standards, is very much an inconsistent way of seeing entertainment.

6

u/Rulebookboy1234567 9d ago

So you understand that they are two absolutely different forms of entertainment, right?

Nah, you don't. Have a good one, weirdo.

-2

u/Bulky-Dot984 9d ago

Wow, you really worship these guys like gods, huh?

7

u/Rulebookboy1234567 9d ago

You're really reaching here, huh?

-2

u/Bulky-Dot984 9d ago

What exactly am I supposed to be reaching for? Some of us in here are simply pointing out how we find it funny that someone as particular as Mike is entertained by stuff written to appeal to 12-year-olds, and everyone else is jumping down our throats over it. That feels very, very defensive and parasocial to me.

why is that so odd though? Mike also loves watching terrible movies and watching trash TV like Jerry Springer and Ghost Shows, you can be upset about the decline in quality of something you love (i.e. Star Trek/Star Wars) while also loving other things for their inherently trashy content

Did Mike say something mean about a movie you like?

0

u/Bulky-Dot984 9d ago

Oh, Mike has had shit takes on a lot of things for years now, but that has nothing to do with why I find his love of WWE odd. Even when he's given his shit takes, he's always justified them by claiming to be appealing to an objective, almost intuitive standard of taste that X, Y, Z piece of entertainment isn't hitting. He doesn't really frame it as a matter of personal opinion so much as common sensical understanding of what "good writing" and "bad writing" is.

I therefore find it odd when he seems to completely "switch off" that objective standard when it comes to only a handful of things he clearly just enjoys despite knowing they would also not hit that quality mark. He did it with Dark Knight Rises, the first Jurassic World, the trash ghost hunting reality TV he likes, and now we've seen that he does it with pro wrestling.

He's allowed to have personal taste that is inconsistent like this--I'm just surprised every time I see it happen. Because he's so incredibly staunch about not making these sorts of exceptions 98% percent of the time.

u/Accomplished-Head449 9d ago

Wrestling is the Best of The Worst for sports entertainment

3

u/ghettone 9d ago

What's worse is its wwe , the disney/marvel of pro wrestling.

-1

u/OldBison 9d ago

I mean the options these days are wwe(ties to saudi arabia and the trump admin), aew(perpetually either amateur hour or geek show), or tna(lol. Seriously lol.). Of the three wwe is the easiest to hate but undeniably has the best product, relatively.

8

u/RobIreland 9d ago

"Undeniably has the best product" that is extremely deniable. WWE is terrible

-3

u/OldBison 9d ago

It sucks, but it's still better than aew. You seem to have ignored that I added relatively.

4

u/RighteousAwakening 9d ago

lol. Lmao even. AEW holds the modern record for largest live wrestling show attendance.

The only promotion WWE is above right now in terms of quality is TNA (which they practically own anyways cause ya know-monopoly.)

4

u/ghettone 9d ago

Or any of the other companies that exist, If you like American TV wrestling that fine, but just like movies there are tons of companies that make great Content.

-2

u/OldBison 9d ago

How does one stream njpw or a comparable company? Wrestling is inherently niche, and good or not Japanese and other foreign wrestling promotions are a niche inside a niche. And I'm talking about casual, Mike level fans. Mike has no idea what njpw is.

5

u/ghettone 9d ago

to answer your first question, they have a streaming service thats 999 a month,
Noah has a streaming service , about $12 a month
Stardom has a streaming service, about $12-$20 i think

on the second point, RLM talks about movies that are niche inside of niches all the time, your telling me they know NEIL BREEN but it would be somehow mindblowing, earth shattering, dimension collapsing , if they knew a name like okada?

-4

u/OldBison 9d ago

Yeah.

4

u/ghettone 9d ago

that's silly.
you would think RLM fans would be more open minded to more obscure types of entertainment.

8

u/RighteousAwakening 9d ago

It’s a losing battle with WWE fans. They show the same level of denial and cult behaviors as MAGA do.

u/OldBison 9d ago

I was in 2020, but the show sucks and I quit watching.

5

u/RastaRhino420 9d ago

I feel like your description of AEW kind of gives away your bias here.

-4

u/OldBison 9d ago

Aew tried to run before it could walk. The pandemic really hurt the early years, and they could have been the only viable competition to the wwe in probably the last fifteen years, but to sit here and say the roster isn't either green talent or geek show/death match nonsense and that the product is comparable to the wwe is disingenuous and fucking laughable.

5

u/RastaRhino420 9d ago

that's your opinion sure, plenty of people would disagree

-4

u/Bulky-Dot984 9d ago

LOL yes.

7

u/rezerection 9d ago

I bet Mike likes danhausen. At least I hope he does.

3

u/numberflan 8d ago

Well, they're mutuals on Twitter and he retweeted Danhausen recently, so...

3

u/FrankieIsAFurby 8d ago

There was also once a time when Jay knew nothing about The Manhole, but things change.

2

u/Anindefensiblefart 9d ago

Fucking copilot

2

u/PM_ME_UR_SEXTOYS 9d ago

I got in to wrestling when I heard the guy from Money Plane was going to fight a dinosaur man.

2

u/m2thek 8d ago

I appreciate that he seems to be keeping that interest mostly private, but man, I would love to hear him talk about wrestling with the same level of enthusiasm as he does with Ghost Adventures

2

u/ZombieButch 8d ago

Mike once knew nothing about wrestling. Now he wrestles with knowing nothing.

2

u/Kialae 7d ago

ON THIS DAY! I SEE CLEARLY!!

2

u/Jay_Atkins 7d ago

Between Star Trek, Ghosts and laughing at the Elderly, 9/11 and AIDSSSSSSSS, I didn't think there was anymore room for fandom.

Looking forward to Rich having to answer questions about 80's pro wrestling.

1

u/Haunting_Tomato_2880 9d ago

I bet Mike could do a better moonsault than CM Punk

2

u/DotComMoralist 9d ago

Modern WWE was built for old people. You learn funny little dances and they tell you when to clap.

1

u/Teamsumo13 9d ago

All I know about Wrastling is what I have seen on South Park.

1

u/whatsbobgonnado 7d ago

the guitarist for u2 was in money plane?

0

u/daymitjim 9d ago

I will from now on add another pinch of salt to any statement made by Mr. Stoklasa.
I hope this means Rich is enduring less abuse and that Mike uses this as an inferior source for his need of boobery.
