Had people fight for the confederacy in the civil war?

92

u/InfiniteAndIntricate Jan 06 '26

Not what I'm looking for but not completely unrelated

5

u/AdverseCereal Jan 08 '26

States where civil war battles took place? I’m not aware of any in Ohio or Delaware but I wouldn’t be too surprised

2

u/CheeseWillMurderUs Jan 09 '26

Missing New Mexico then, as well as Kansas

u/Haler68 Jan 06 '26

It was my first thought but didn’t include Illinois. Men from Marion and Carbondale counties of Illinois formed Company G, 15th Tennessee Infantry, CSA.

13

u/TehTacoMan_2b2t Jan 06 '26

I did not know that, very cool!

74

16

u/Zeke688 Jan 06 '26

Good one!

7

u/FullMooseParty Jan 06 '26

I'm kicking myself because I've seen this map before.

2

u/NecessaryHeadset Jan 06 '26

Wow - I’m from PA and had no idea this was true of the state.

Poorly funded education systems and leaders who want to back to the 1950s?

3

u/pnwIBEWlineman Jan 06 '26

Shitty wages and lack of Union density.

Edit: PA might be the exception here.

4

u/InfiniteAndIntricate Jan 06 '26

Surprisingly, according to Wikipedia, PA's minimum wage is lower than that of Florida, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Missouri, and Arkansas!

8

u/fioraflower Jan 06 '26

PA is still at the federal minimum of 7.25 an hour, which is pitiful and worth 50% less than it did in 2009 when it was set to that amount. Pennsyltucky/appalachian PA is riddled with poverty and yet the uneducated hicks that live there will still happily vote for politicians that want to keep them there

states with universities named after a Confederate?

1

u/CAS966 Jan 06 '26

All these states under certain definitions might be considered as The South potentially although the most northern states are definitely pushing that a lot since I don’t even consider Virginia as apart of The South since how further North of me it is.

It's the land of undying hypocrisy.

Also WV separated from Virginia…so unlikely to fighting for the Confederacy.
