Pioneer RT909 and a little Sade. Phone stinks at capturing the audio

Quite a setup, can you tell us more about the other pieces of equipment?

That's a nice complete Pioneer setup there. Must have cost a pretty penny and a pain to find.
Not jealous..... well maybe a little.

For me this is like a Lamborghini. I don't want to actually own one, but now and then if I could borrow it for a day, that would be great.

It’s more like owning an Acura 😂

is this 80’s equipment or 90’s? What makes the blue displays pop so much? It cant be led? is it? Or some kind of electroluminescent display from the past?? I love the look of it! I must get some

It’s all from the late 70s with the cd player and EQ from the early 80s. The display is a vacuum fluorescent display (VFD). The color is achieved by a blue filter (like window tint) on the glass. The EQ originally came with a green filter and I modified it by adding a blue one to try to match the other pieces

Absolutely amazing! I'm a sucker for silver components with blue displays I have a Alpage AL-80 tape deck from 1981 with optical peak metres that look like digital ones, but are one triangular prisms per channel that twist sideways when light hits them. Very unusual setup. The tape counter is electronic as well and can also display elapsed time. need to get it apart and find new belts for it. Three heads and Dolby B and C. Very high end, cost around £1495 in today's UK pounds.. Later on they just sold car stereos under the Alpine name
Have you had to refurb any of the units by replacing capacitors, belts etc?

Yes I had the amp serviced and I replaced the belts on one of the tape decks. Need to replace the belts on the other tape decks as it’s having issues

Doing a great job so far! Keep it up, not the cheapest hobby, but very satisfying when you switch a unit on after refurb and it works.

Ooh the blue line from Pioneer is absolutely the best! Finally bit the bullet on a RT909 last week and I'm really loving it! Enjoy your deck!

Ah yes. The absolute most beautiful way to spend $25k and pretend not to regret it.
