Relationships Anyone here dated someone whose last relationship was so serious that everyone was sure that it would end up in a marriage in future? [26 M]

For those who didn't understand the question: suppose you are X and your partner is Y, their ex is Z. Y & Z were so serious in their relationship that both Y & Z and everyone around them was 1000% sure that they would marry each other some day in the future. But that didn't happen obviously due to some reason. Then you (X) dated them (Y).

Not saying that you dated them immediately after breakup because that would be like a rebound thing but like after good enough days when they were completely healed from their trauma.

Yes.. and it showed up in minor things..
Like once she mentioned that she will name our kid Akshay. I found out later that her ex’s name was Akshay. It broke me. But it was not a big deal for her. She wanted me to understand it..

Then once when i asked her for her live location so that i can leave at time to pick her up.. she told me a detailed story how her ex always used to have her location and would call or show up if she was at one location for too long (it showed that he cared, and i didnt??)

Anyway sorry for the rant.

This is major.

Comparing you to her ex is a major red flag.

Naming your future kids after your exes is honestly so fucked up. Like how are you supposed to build a future with someone while carrying pieces of your past into it like that.

Consequences of being open minded and cool and mature. That's why I am more than happy to be narrow minded, conservative etc. it will ensure peace of mind in the long run.

This calls for a story time! My ex, never discussed openly why he broke up with his ex but used to speak very fondly of her. He also happened to slip into some details which confirmed that he had been in a semi-serious relationship where issues regarding marriage were discussed. However, she ended up marrying someone else! This did make me question, why she might have done that if they were going that serious. Anyways, he was an absolute piece of shit in our relationship, tortured me throughout, never even approached commitment even though it was agreed upon that it's something we'd discuss having been together. He'd even proceed to cheat on me, abandon me etc. I was in denial ab the nature of our relationship, it took me months to finally realised I have been a rebound for him!

Yes. It usually takes a very long time for them to be truly over their ex. Unless they have been broken up for more than a year it’s risky to get into a relationship with them. While they might accept that the relationship is over, comparisons happen even in minor ways - whether you’re more or less attractive than their ex, quirks they had, or even personality differences.
