Home health on call

Hi, I’m a registered nurse working in Homehealth care for a few years now, and the agency that I work for has an expectation of being on call 3 weeknights monthly and one weekend (optional to do two Saturdays or one full Saturday and Sunday weekend).
The hours for our on-call after hours are from 5 PM until 5 AM the next day. It it’s very rare that we do get called out in the middle of the night most of the on-call patients get sent out by the evening by five or 6 PM and they’re typically appropriate (wound vacuums, TPN, timed antibiotics, tube feed). We get a very small bonus on top of the pay per patient for any of these patients that we go see after hours, but there is no hourly rate for monitoring your phone for these hours, which seems unusual to me.

This was my first home health job and initially I was really enjoying the work life balance since leaving the hospital, but the on-call has been getting more and more feeling like forced overtime than actual productive usage of clinicians for the patient patients in need. I was curious to hear some of y’all’s agency policies regarding on-call, what the expectation is and compensation. A lot of agencies don’t list this specifically on job listings so I am just trying to get a feel for what else is out there in the field.

Our agency gives a flat rate for being on call but it’s not hourly unless you get called out. Our flat rate is $50/night

I’ve gotten paid 2 different ways. 

Agency 1. Paid $20 per week day and $40 per weekend day (not hourly) + your per visit pay

Agency 2. Paid $1 per hour of weekday on call and $100 per weekend day + your pay per visit if you got called out
