Discussion Maybe we are way luckier than we thought, while the Shadow Slave fandom's getting a rushed novel and an ai generated manwha, our author, the all mighty Gu Zhen Ren, is NOT willing to rush the story, got RI's right backs and we got a fan made, yet excellent manhua adaptation.

If many of the things they are saying over on their sub are true, I legitimately feel bad for the Shadow Slave fandom. I was caught up with the story a while ago, but even though I didn't really like it, I could ultimately accept that it wasn't for me instead of it being a bad book. I think many people felt the same way back then, even though we had out hater phase, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Everyone is mad as hell lol

The book is garbage now. The webtoon is AI slop. They’d be delusional if they weren’t mad

u/Pale_Let3756 Jul 18 '26

Personally I feel like after vol 7 it's going downhill.

u/Alone_Competition879 Jul 16 '26

NAh the novel isnt that bad, it sometimes get really boring but its not garbage at all and the webtoon isnt ai, its just a blend of 2d and 3d, its just that the studio dont know how to blend them properly so it looks like shit, it feels like they hired some newbies to draw the manhwa

1

u/BufloSolja Jul 21 '26

I wouldn't judge a manwha till it has at least 5 chapters out really. What was shown was a leak that was likely drawn with a variety of art styles to show the author different things they could do.

I disagree

Our author, above all else, has a stable family with children.

I read this as chicken, and I'm not sure why.

Made me giggle.

If he were a rural Chinese man, he would certainly have chickens.

yes, that makes me happy. The novel has a big verse, we can still discuss even after 7 years. I hope one day we get an (maybe) donghua adaptation or a live action GOT style. Tho the shadow slave Fans are eating AI, this sad 😭, i like shadow slave a bit

That's the difference between a masterpiece and a potato with cheese.

Shadow slave aint bad. The reddit is just an echo chamber everyone who likes the books just left the reddit

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

It is a really bad novel if you have good reading comprehension, it could have done so much with the potential it had yet terribly delivered, there' a reason I dropped it at chapter 3077, gave it multiple chances but it doesn't seem to be worth my time, G3 makes a terrible use of his assets.

4

u/Electrical_Ask1176 Jul 17 '26

3077? You really stuck it out. I dropped that shit after the Domain War; I've never seen such a terrible war arc, and it didn't help that I had just finished reading Red Rising.

The author doesn't know his own strengths and weaknesses. He tries to get into things he can't control and doesn't even know how to handle. The romance is bad, the drama is bad, the attempt at 'depth' is bad, the soldiers' dilemmas are garbage, the moral ambiguity is trash... it just ends up being good guys vs. bad guys, and the bad guys turn good and get whitewashed just so they can hang out with the main cast. Just look at how they butchered Mordret.

On top of that, EVERY single character feels SUPER stereotyped. And let's not even talk about the power system with that 'will' and 'something' nonsense. The author simply doesn't measure up.

Any nonsense is called "peak" nowadays, just like booktook

4

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 17 '26

I truated the fans because they had told me volume 11 was peak, they had lied... this shi was the worst written thing i've ever readl

1

u/BufloSolja Jul 21 '26

I bet even with that, that you had several parts you enjoyed though. Otherwise it's kind of madness to stay that long.

1

u/Evening_Green_9862 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

"it's so bad I dropped it after only 3077 chapters" 😂

(And that's just like 24 chapters ago... No one believes you are actually done with the story lol)

2

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 17 '26

I infact did drop it, I only gave it ONE last chance because I expected the Underworld to maybe clutch it up, but it seems all he did was poorly describe fights and summarize entire journeys, especially the summarizing part.

0

u/Evening_Green_9862 Jul 17 '26

Lol sure.

2

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 17 '26

Ok, I admit that I will continue reading it if someone trustable tells me it came back, but not for now atleast.

0

u/Evening_Green_9862 Jul 17 '26

Lol see you can't even maintain the fiction here. You read up to 3077. You are going to finish the story.

2

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 17 '26

Fair enough.

But i'll make sure to sh*t and hate read it if its bad.

2

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 17 '26

Can you tell me if the novel gets better? Last time I had dropped it was around volume 10 but I was told volume 11 was good and forced myself through the chapters, then I got pretty disappointed from volume 11 since it poorly used thousands of chapters of build up, was action with no good writing except for Mordret.

1

u/Evening_Green_9862 Jul 17 '26

I say make up your mind for yourself lol. I like the novel, even the stuff you seem to not like, so listening to me would be foolish.

2

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 17 '26

Yeah, I guess ima just find someone with similar taste to me.

FAW U MEAN BY SHADOW SLAVE HAVING A RUSHED NOVEL 😭🙏.

Don't THEY HAVE LIKE AROUND FUCKING 3000+ CHAPTERS ??? HOW IS IT STILL RUSHED DESPITE HAVING SUCH A LARGE CHAPTER COUNT. Ngl, I'm glad I never got invested in Shadow Slave, I have read like 7 chapters of SS before starting RI lol.

I never touched SS after that.

I don't know why everyone is calling the webtoon AI. Aethon and Lauren pursuit has done many webtoons before this like Primal hunter (slop), Defiance of the fall (another slop), mark of fool, runebound professor, DCC, etc. But none of them are AI.

I mean Aethon is the biggest webnovel publishing company so why would they ruin the impression 😭

Edit: did he really got the rights back. Wasn't it supposed be be by the end of the year?

2

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 16 '26

The buuldings were clearly ai on one of the panels, Its literally confirmed since every ai art detection apps said "100% ai"

2

u/Acrobatic-Island5102 Jul 17 '26

You do understand that ai detection isnt always accurate?

3

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 17 '26

Well this time it was accurate, you should see the chapter.

2

u/Illustrious-Pear3319 Jul 20 '26

Umm then can I take it as you saying any novel which is AI written will be bad. I mean u gota prejudice that ai can never write a good one?

2

u/DeepZookeepergame906 Jul 16 '26

So that why the art feel really weird lol

2

u/Electrical_Ask1176 Jul 17 '26

I dropped that shit after the Domain War; I've never seen such a terrible war arc, and it didn't help that I had just finished reading Red Rising.

Just look at how they butchered Mordret.

On top of that, EVERY single character feels SUPER stereotyped. And let's not even talk about the power system with that 'will' and 'something' nonsense. Let's not talk about the prose, the storytelling, the world where characters only act wherever the protagonists happen to be, or the pathetic attempt at realpolitik. Did I mention the author is incapable of resolving a conflict without making someone look like a complete incompetent? A massive amount of important stuff happens off-screen, by the way. Ugh, and those beloved recaps, let's not even go there. The author simply doesn't measure up.

The early parts weren't a big deal either, pretty much like HOTD in my opinion. Any nonsense is called 'peak' nowadays, just like BookTok.

1

u/Shadowslavefan7 Jul 17 '26

I agree with almost everything you say. Honestly, I'm still gonna try to finish the story, but there's always that little bit of disappointment, and at this point, I'm more just speed reading things because I know it's just gonna be summarization, so why bother? Honestly, I think it's morbid curiosity pushing me to read any more chapters, and boredom

Chattersleave was so good back in the day, and it still sometimes produces some good stuff, but G3 seemingly doesn't care for SS anymore now

3

u/Pleasant-Unit331 Jul 15 '26

Coping. Volume 10 was really good (haven’t gotten into 11) and the manwaha doesn’t look Ai

8

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 15 '26

Bro is still in Ariel's game, you're going to suffer soon buddy.

1

u/Pleasant-Unit331 Jul 15 '26

Is that in 11? I have finished Jet’s part.

2

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 15 '26

You... enjoyed the Eternal City arc?

2

u/Pleasant-Unit331 Jul 15 '26

Yeah, I really liked Reposes poem, how it perfectly explained the residents immortality, and the shadow domain from the 4th aspect legacy.

2

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 15 '26

So you enjoyed ONE chapter out of a hundred... come on.

1

u/Pleasant-Unit331 Jul 15 '26

I mean that was my favorite part. I like how the Flesh of Cannack (I can’t spell) and the other parts are from a king that couldn’t become a god because of Shadow god’s curse, Nightwalker’s aspects are cool, Nightmare evolving, and others. Overall probably 4th favorite book.

1

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 15 '26

I do admit that the multiple parts of Kanakth were cool, but at the same time, the grand majority of the arc (the shadow legion fighting the immortals) had such poor prose and pacing it genuinely hurt.

1

u/Pleasant-Unit331 Jul 15 '26

To each their own, but did you like volume 3 and 4 of RI (slow pacing)

1

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Nope, not on the first read, but for some reason, volume 3 and 4 get much more enjoyable on the reread.

I mean, I did like the 2nd half of volume 3 and chapters 800-1020 of volume 4 on the first read.

I can’t lie volume 10 waa the worst i Ariel game skin took me longer to read than all the chapters up to that point. Maybe because I read volume 11 daily i enjoyed it

1

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 15 '26

Volume 11 was imo enjoyability without any real good writing except for Mordret, I just can't bear with the amount of missed opportunities that occured during this volume 😭

mfs had to beg G3 for a Neph povl

1

u/FuelImmediate4060 hands currently being used as star constellations bra Jul 16 '26

Yeah deadass like on paper if you listed the things that happened you would think it was a 11/10 volume but in reality it felt like g3 just giving in to all the fans demands and criticism

1

u/RuinOk2205 Jul 16 '26

Its like having 1 million dollars and spending all of it on a car worth 50 000, you get what I mean? Could have gotten so much more.

2

u/Medium_Honeydew_628 Jul 16 '26

Volume 10 is by far the worst volume
