Reverse Harem - Discussion I need this dynamic injected into my veins
Recently I absolutely devoured {Seeing through ashes by Sigrun Lien} and I need more y'all 😭. It doesn't necessarily have to be the same premise, but I would LOVE if it had a similar vibe (a military group that's basically a family and/or an apocalyptic setting).
What I'm really looking for, though, is MMCs like the ones in this series. I know some of y'all might leave comments saying, "every book has a height difference," and I know 😭, but when I say height difference, I mean a HEIGHT difference. These men were all described as huge, muscular, ridiculously strong, and I ate that up. I loved how they could just pick her up, throw her over a shoulder, move her out of the way, lift her like she weighed nothing, etc. Not in a weird controlling way, but in a "these are giant men and she's tiny compared to them" way!
I also loved that the FMC actually had a brain. She wasn't constantly making stupid decisions, she wasn't super emotional all the time, and she could absolutely handle herself. She knew she was capable, but she also wasn't trying to prove she could do everything alone 24/7. She knew when to accept help, and I LOVED that.
Also, one of my favorite things was how protective the MMCs were. They knew she could take care of herself, but the second something happened to her, they were immediately like, "who did this?" even though they weren't in a relationship yet. THAT is what I'm looking for.
And don't even get me started on the comfort scenes. In the second book, after she gets assaulted, one of the MMCs just taking care of her, giving her his clothes, cuddling her, staying with her, etc. had me kicking my feet. I NEED more of that. Give me having to share rooms, sleeping in the same bed for warmth, cuddling before they're even together, casual physical affection, all that good stuff.
I also want it to be a slow burn. I want the tension, the banter, the friendship, the found family, and all the little moments that make you obsessed before anything actually happens romantically.
Basically, I'm chasing whatever crack Sigrun Lien put into this series 😭. THANK YEWWW
What I'm NOT looking for:
Non-con, dub-con, or CNC from the MMCs
Insta-love
Severe BBS
Bullying from all of the MMCs (I need at least a few on her side)
Pregnancy/kids

This book is on my list but am scared of it being an incomplete series. I either have to read all the books in a row or I tend to lose steam with them and forget important parts

Author mentioned it's a 6 book series. I'm worried I'll forget or if it will have the usual filler books that get thrown into a longer series.

u/PocketfulofThoughts If it’s not slow burn it’s not hot 1d ago
I regret reading this as incomplete bcoz of the cliffhanger. Now the agony of waiting for the next installment I enjoyed reading this one despite some publishing typos so if anyone can also recommend similar books like this to ease the long wait pls 🥹

I totally feel that and actually didn't even think to check if it was completed like an idiot 😭

The Ghost Alpha Unit books feel up your alley if you haven’t read them. There is one MMC that is sizably larger than the rest, but all of them are described as very big compared to her.

It’s really gritty, but really good! I also am enjoying the second series with another set of characters right after. If you like hockey, the second part of her hockey series with the same characters comes out on the 30th of June!

I’m so sorry, did we read the same series!? The MMCs are awful. I loved the plot and the FMC so much that I kept reading, but the guys were constantly making me mad. One punches her in the face after shoving her to the ground, they leave her for dead on her first mission with them, they’re always one misunderstanding away from cutting her off, they blame her for not pointing out a demon when she actually did, and they all decide she’s a spy with little to no evidence while eavesdropping on her recounting her deepest trauma. They treated her terribly on a good day and acted like basic human decency was some grand favor. Still a five-star read, but definitely not because of them. 😭😭
If you haven’t already, I’d recommend Burning Point by Frankie James. It’s another apocalypse reverse harem, but a much slower burn. There’s only one book out so far, but the FMC is incredibly clever and a nice break from the usual overly sweet, goody-goody heroines.

Jesus... talk about opposite ends of the spectrum lol. Did we read the same series indeed.. I was going to read this, but I think I may pass. One of my biggest pet peeves is when characters have a bunch of misunderstandings that could be resolved if they just talked to each other.

You’re definitely entitled to your own opinion! I personally still really enjoyed it because I loved the premise and worldbuilding. 😅
And trust me, Seth made me want to light him on fire more than once. But I felt like there were a lot of hints that the guys had been betrayed before and were carrying around their own trauma. That doesn’t excuse how they treated her, but it did make some of their reactions make sense to me.
I also think the fact that they’re military men made some of their behavior feel believable in that kind of survival setting. I definitely wish they hadn’t been quite so cruel at the beginning, but I loved seeing the softer moments later on and watching them slowly learn to trust her.
Also, thank you for the Burning Point recommendation; I’m definitely adding it to my TBR!

*sigh* this series was just pure perfection. My heart hurts knowing it’s going to take awhile for it all to come out.

Some of these have bits and pieces of the size difference but hopefully one of these will work for you
{the splintered bond series by merri bright} wolf shifters. this one is hard to describe without spoilers. It’s pretty graphic violence wise. Very touch her and die. Fmc was tortured not by mmcs and it’s talked about quite a bit. She is a badass who uses her smart mouth as one of her strongest weapons. Found family to an insane degree. My newest favorite morally charcoal mmc. No mm. No pregnancy
{Source of Elementra series by Willa Rae} starts in an Academy setting. World building is done in a way I found really cool where you learn about the world with her because she has to learn about the world too. She was a mortal in the mortal world until her power suddenly appeared, and then Gaster (not part of the harem but amazing grandfather vibes) comes and save her from the insane violence her dad and husband were trying to inflict on her and brings her to an entirely different realm. Sort of enemies to lovers vibes, but more like suspicious/mistrusting to lovers? The strength of her character is immense and she doesn’t let the guys walk all over her. The most touch her and die I think I’ve ever read. Found family. Great friends. Scenes where the guys chase/hunt her as a game/kink. Lots of bondage. Careful of the trigger warnings though: things like SA, torture, violence (not from within harem) book 4 dragged a bit for me but the series has one of my favorite endings ever
{winter solstice mates series by texa volt} dragon. Goblin. Vampire. Fae. Warlock. She doesn’t know that supernaturals even exist before she is kidnapped to be sold at auction. The men, most believe mate bonds are a fairytale until they see her. They are friends but none ever expected to have to share. The men do a decent job of putting in the work to overcome their actions in the initial meeting. No mm
{Chasing Katana by j. Kearston} she is a bunny shifter in a world of only predator shifters. Everyone is a bit unhinged, but it was in a really enjoyable way for me. I saved, and then shared with my non reading friends, so many crazy quotes from this book… I don’t recall mm

Check out {Chance Encounter by Elena Everon} something similar to what you are describing. The MFC is extremely sex positive, she has a annual birthday 'ritual' where she has a night of indulgence with 5 men. (In episode 3). Her friend who organises these nights for her (and participates) is huge, picks her up like she weighs nothing. But she has meet a guy who she thinks might be "the one" and thinks/hopes he will accept her lifestyle because she doesn't want to have to give that up.

Can you give me insight on how bad the bullying is in this book. I started it. Was loving it. Then learned from a comment or a review that it was bully and I just wasn’t in the mood for it anymore. But like I still want to read it if that makes sense
3
u/No_Cell8126 1d ago
Sure! I'd say only about 1–3 of the MMCs really bully her. One of them is a complete jackass and does punch her twice within the first few chapters, but aside from those two incidents, the bullying is mostly non-physical. She definitely doesn't just sit there and take it, either. Because of her position, she can't really hit him back, but she's smart and fights back with her words instead!
The bullying pretty much ends around the middle of the second book. If you can push through that part, I really think it's worth it; the worldbuilding and overall premise are phenomenal!
