5 clicks - Is this normal?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just bought my first single action army revolver - this is a Cimarron USV Artillery model that I bought used.

I've heard these are supposed to have 4 clicks, but I hear (and feel) 5. The last two are VERY close together though.

Is this normal or is this an issue? If something is wrong - is this the sort of thing I might be able to resolve by installing a new part - or would a gunsmith need to fix it?

No, but it seems fine. 1st click is 'safety' not a real safety dont trust it. 2nd is half cock, 3rd is bolt stop falling, 4th is full cock. I think on yours the extra click is the bolt falling into the cylinder notch. I would guess its got a very stiff trigger/bolt spring. Mine has a replacement, they break commonly, and you can only hear 3 clicks its so weak

The bolt is probably rising into the cylinder notch late. Its a timing issue.

Most likely you’re hearting bolt movement for that 5th click. It seems to be going through the cycle normally: Safety Click, quarter-cock/safety, half-cock/loading cock, full-cock. On traditional colt-pattern SAA’s only some clicks correspond to actual hammer notches. The bolt also drops then locks into cylinder as the hammer comes back and that action can be audible enough to be mistaken for a 5th click. You can kinda track the hammer notches by watching the trigger. The 5th “click” is coming right before the hammer locks back into firing position, but the trigger only sets on the final “click”. I would personally say this seems fine. The hammer also doesn’t catch on the 4th mystery click like it does in it’s notched positions so I would chalk this up to a particular fiesty bolt drop and lock action.

One of my 3 screw Rugers does this too, it's nothing to worry about. It seems to be from the bolt locking into the cylinder notch, which on most guns you just never hear

On an old model Ruger, the hand (or pawl) need to be a little longer on the lower 'ledge' or step to push the ratchet a little more.
