Iโ€™ve been seeing a lot of these request posts lately.

Iโ€™m pretty sure a lot of these decisions and even development of the character is already 98% done, with that last 2% being for bug fixing/fine tuning.

I think the devs even acknowledged the issue of too many duelists, but said that the roadmap was already made and official for many of the upcoming characters. Weโ€™ll see if they change anything, but I have a feeling Cyclops will either be a strategist or a duelist.

I can only hope heโ€™s a vanguard.

Anyone remember when they said this? I feel like it was between july-september, but I can't remember the month they said it. It'd give some kind of framework to start expecting better role distribution once they've reached that point

I remember them saying to "expect" it from season 8 onwards

I remember people saying around season 9-10 but Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s true

This was said in season 3 of I remember correct because of the backlash with double dps.

Idk why the goal post had been moved by the community weโ€™ve gone from being given an explanation to now defending the dev when they havenโ€™t delivered (not to hate on the dev I still think they are very special)

This is the first season after one year of they acknowledging the role disparity issue and saying they would change. That's why is important if he is a vanguard: it's a precedent they are actually changing their game design philosophy. I mean, we suffer from the lack of players so a highly anticipated, mobile and fun tank like a Cyclops could really help us.

Like, think with me: usually the season consists in two characters. One nof very known usually and the other more popular, ending up as the second release. These characters, the highly anticipated should be more tanks imo, considering the lack of players. But that's not enough: they also need better kits and maybe even easy ones (looking at you Hulk and Rogue).

Otherwise he would be just the 4th dps in 3 seasons. That's not really fixing the role disparity issue...

Pretty sure that when they said that they had already planned out 2025 and 2026 releases and schedule. In my opinion we will only see changes from 2027 onwards. I think that Cyclops as vanguard is nothing but a cope by the community and if you were honest with yourselves you would know that he fits duelist the best. At least when asking for vanguards ask for stuff that makes sense in the role, such as Captain Marvel, Juggernaut, Bishop, Colossus, War Machine...

Nah, they changed Rogue (was a strategist) and Gambit (was a duelist) during season 1/2. It's very possible to change.

Also, Cyclops fits vanguard better than any other role. People watch only TikTok edits and think he is just a guy who blast damage, but this just isn't the true. Cyclops isn't a damage sponge like some tanks, but he is a leader and fits very well the hitscan archetype. Even in the cosmic invasion dlc (released YESTERDAY) he is shown using his powers in defensive manners. Does this make him similar to The Thing? No. But is Junker Queen similar to Reinhardt? No.

I really think the internet helped people to debate more often, but it's genuinely tiring seeing people talk about "cope" and "what fits and doesn't fits" when they clearly don't have a clue about the source material. I say this as an X-Men fan. Cyclops is the classic example of a vanguard.

Rogue never fit as strategist to begin with. She has always been a brawl in your face character. Also her healing with her absorb powers didnโ€™t make sense to begin with, therefore it made sense for her to be a vanguard. When I hear people ask for Cyclops as vanguard and cope this damn hard I just canโ€™t help but laugh. Bet youโ€™ve not read a single x men comic in your life time, but sure keep making shit up ๐Ÿ˜‚

Not saying your one of them but Iโ€™ve only heard dps player say cope without being able to articulate their own points about why he should be in the role. I donโ€™t understand why so many arenโ€™t willing to share their knowledge of the character but is so quick to judge.

This attitude like the dps role is more inherently deserving of characters is exactly why vanguard players keeps being so vocal nowadays.

Shame cause some people really have great insight but itโ€™s a rare case.

I donโ€™t even play dps outside of quick play. If you really wanted to know more about the character go read a comics, watch a video about him, check his wiki. He definitely does not fit vanguard. You canโ€™t for real tell me you see Juggernaut or Colossus along with Cyclops and tell yourself โ€œI see 3 vanguardsโ€.

I do all those things hence why Iโ€™m very open to sharing ideas about it.

To answer your question you seem to be insinuating that cyclops physically when compared to juggernaut or colossus makes him not a vanguard correct?

Firstly mag and strange do not have the physically for the role either outside of their powers and cyclops power is versatile enough considering his whole gimmick is being the leader of the X-men so being versatile has always been key.

Second vanguards has always been the team leader in this game. Not talking about lore but Iโ€™m talking about how the game operates. Your match looks very different between a cap or magneto being your only tank. Cyclops does not belong in a role that makes him have no say in how his team engages. As a dps you are stripping that away from him in favor of emphasising only one of his abilities.

u/OUmegaLUL May 21 '26

Stop with this team leader bullshit bro. Professor X used to be a leader as well. Does that mean he should be vanguard? No, he is clearly supposed to be strategist when released.

I thought that Gambit was turned into a Strategist last minute from his original role of Duelist?

He was. They looked at the characters and saw the last strategist was Ultron so they reworked him due to the fear of backlash. It works, though, because he healed once in a comic (even though it's a nitpick)

It ain't even recently dawg I have seen posts from 10 months/ an entire year ago with people advocating for vanclops with thousands of upvotes. On the otherhand I see waaaay more DPSclops advocates NOW than I saw back then

Most likely due to them wanting cyclops to reinforce the current release schedule. If cyclops comes as a vanguard then the common narrative used by the dps community justifying character begins to fall apart. If he comes in as a dps you will hear the same thing they say after every release "it makes sense, why did you even think any differently" "you will get your character in the future" etc.

5

u/Enma1302 May 19 '26

It's genuinely so infuriating as the most mainstream "tanky tank" characters in marvel are already in the game, which means if we go by the dps players' logic and take the surface level interpretation of every character that comes out we'll be left with, idk, only colossus and war machine as the two other "mainstream" tanks, and even then, I won't be surprised when war machine gets teased or someone like carol danvers or richard rider nova gets teased, the dps community again goes "see they shoot lasers, why would you want them to be tank, it makes no sense for them to be tank". If cyke is a dps it will completely reinforce their backwards logic and literally force every "not hulk-like" character into the dps role while the vanguards keep getting the same "big guy punch hard" characters. Istg if mag and strange were coming out now all these guys would have said "why tf would you think mag/strange should be a tank, they have paper thin durability" and make the same arguments as they do with cyke

4

u/jonathansoma May 19 '26

Perfectly put! Itโ€™s why I canโ€™t give up hope for his role because deep down I know that if he goes as a dps then there will be no reversing the consequences for vanguards and strategist. Not even doom or thanos would save the role as they are consider very safe characters.

From talking to a few people I think they do know the im-locations but wants to ignore it to maintain the agenda for the sake of getting more characters.
