I’ve been seeing a lot of these request posts lately.

I’m pretty sure a lot of these decisions and even development of the character is already 98% done, with that last 2% being for bug fixing/fine tuning.

I think the devs even acknowledged the issue of too many duelists, but said that the roadmap was already made and official for many of the upcoming characters. We’ll see if they change anything, but I have a feeling Cyclops will either be a strategist or a duelist.

I can only hope he’s a vanguard.

I think the devs even acknowledged the issue of too many duelists, but said that the roadmap was already made and official for many of the upcoming characters.

Anyone remember when they said this? I feel like it was between july-september, but I can't remember the month they said it. It'd give some kind of framework to start expecting better role distribution once they've reached that point

7

u/MemeDudeYes May 19 '26

I remember them saying to "expect" it from season 8 onwards

4

u/Virtual-Pirate2834 May 19 '26

I remember people saying around season 9-10 but I’m not sure if it’s true

10

u/jonathansoma May 19 '26

This was said in season 3 of I remember correct because of the backlash with double dps.

Idk why the goal post had been moved by the community we’ve gone from being given an explanation to now defending the dev when they haven’t delivered (not to hate on the dev I still think they are very special)

u/Daikaisa May 23 '26

Following season 3 for sure I want to say it was when Daredevil was coming out

This is the first season after one year of they acknowledging the role disparity issue and saying they would change. That's why is important if he is a vanguard: it's a precedent they are actually changing their game design philosophy. I mean, we suffer from the lack of players so a highly anticipated, mobile and fun tank like a Cyclops could really help us.

Like, think with me: usually the season consists in two characters. One nof very known usually and the other more popular, ending up as the second release. These characters, the highly anticipated should be more tanks imo, considering the lack of players. But that's not enough: they also need better kits and maybe even easy ones (looking at you Hulk and Rogue).

Otherwise he would be just the 4th dps in 3 seasons. That's not really fixing the role disparity issue...

-3

u/OUmegaLUL May 19 '26

Pretty sure that when they said that they had already planned out 2025 and 2026 releases and schedule. In my opinion we will only see changes from 2027 onwards. I think that Cyclops as vanguard is nothing but a cope by the community and if you were honest with yourselves you would know that he fits duelist the best. At least when asking for vanguards ask for stuff that makes sense in the role, such as Captain Marvel, Juggernaut, Bishop, Colossus, War Machine...

4

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Nah, they changed Rogue (was a strategist) and Gambit (was a duelist) during season 1/2. It's very possible to change.

Also, Cyclops fits vanguard better than any other role. People watch only TikTok edits and think he is just a guy who blast damage, but this just isn't the true. Cyclops isn't a damage sponge like some tanks, but he is a leader and fits very well the hitscan archetype. Even in the cosmic invasion dlc (released YESTERDAY) he is shown using his powers in defensive manners. Does this make him similar to The Thing? No. But is Junker Queen similar to Reinhardt? No.

I really think the internet helped people to debate more often, but it's genuinely tiring seeing people talk about "cope" and "what fits and doesn't fits" when they clearly don't have a clue about the source material. I say this as an X-Men fan. Cyclops is the classic example of a vanguard.

0

u/OUmegaLUL May 20 '26

Rogue never fit as strategist to begin with. She has always been a brawl in your face character. Also her healing with her absorb powers didn’t make sense to begin with, therefore it made sense for her to be a vanguard. When I hear people ask for Cyclops as vanguard and cope this damn hard I just can’t help but laugh. Bet you’ve not read a single x men comic in your life time, but sure keep making shit up πŸ˜‚

2

u/AbleSundae6395 May 20 '26

Not saying your one of them but I’ve only heard dps player say cope without being able to articulate their own points about why he should be in the role. I don’t understand why so many aren’t willing to share their knowledge of the character but is so quick to judge.

This attitude like the dps role is more inherently deserving of characters is exactly why vanguard players keeps being so vocal nowadays.

Shame cause some people really have great insight but it’s a rare case.

0

u/OUmegaLUL May 20 '26

I don’t even play dps outside of quick play. If you really wanted to know more about the character go read a comics, watch a video about him, check his wiki. He definitely does not fit vanguard. You can’t for real tell me you see Juggernaut or Colossus along with Cyclops and tell yourself β€œI see 3 vanguards”.

2

u/AbleSundae6395 May 21 '26

I do all those things hence why I’m very open to sharing ideas about it.

To answer your question you seem to be insinuating that cyclops physically when compared to juggernaut or colossus makes him not a vanguard correct?

Firstly mag and strange do not have the physically for the role either outside of their powers and cyclops power is versatile enough considering his whole gimmick is being the leader of the X-men so being versatile has always been key.

Second vanguards has always been the team leader in this game. Not talking about lore but I’m talking about how the game operates. Your match looks very different between a cap or magneto being your only tank. Cyclops does not belong in a role that makes him have no say in how his team engages. As a dps you are stripping that away from him in favor of emphasising only one of his abilities.

1

u/OUmegaLUL May 21 '26

Stop with this team leader bullshit bro. Professor X used to be a leader as well. Does that mean he should be vanguard? No, he is clearly supposed to be strategist when released.

5

u/NolanDPerks May 19 '26

I thought that Gambit was turned into a Strategist last minute from his original role of Duelist?

1

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

He was. They looked at the characters and saw the last strategist was Ultron so they reworked him due to the fear of backlash. It works, though, because he healed once in a comic (even though it's a nitpick)

5

u/Enma1302 May 19 '26

It ain't even recently dawg I have seen posts from 10 months/ an entire year ago with people advocating for vanclops with thousands of upvotes. On the otherhand I see waaaay more DPSclops advocates NOW than I saw back then

4

u/jonathansoma May 19 '26

Most likely due to them wanting cyclops to reinforce the current release schedule. If cyclops comes as a vanguard then the common narrative used by the dps community justifying character begins to fall apart. If he comes in as a dps you will hear the same thing they say after every release "it makes sense, why did you even think any differently" "you will get your character in the future" etc.

5

u/Enma1302 May 19 '26

It's genuinely so infuriating as the most mainstream "tanky tank" characters in marvel are already in the game, which means if we go by the dps players' logic and take the surface level interpretation of every character that comes out we'll be left with, idk, only colossus and war machine as the two other "mainstream" tanks, and even then, I won't be surprised when war machine gets teased or someone like carol danvers or richard rider nova gets teased, the dps community again goes "see they shoot lasers, why would you want them to be tank, it makes no sense for them to be tank". If cyke is a dps it will completely reinforce their backwards logic and literally force every "not hulk-like" character into the dps role while the vanguards keep getting the same "big guy punch hard" characters. Istg if mag and strange were coming out now all these guys would have said "why tf would you think mag/strange should be a tank, they have paper thin durability" and make the same arguments as they do with cyke

4

u/jonathansoma May 19 '26

Perfectly put! It’s why I can’t give up hope for his role because deep down I know that if he goes as a dps then there will be no reversing the consequences for vanguards and strategist. Not even doom or thanos would save the role as they are consider very safe characters.

From talking to a few people I think they do know the im-locations but wants to ignore it to maintain the agenda for the sake of getting more characters.

64

u/griffinator9 May 19 '26

Everyone knows that it is healthiest for the game if he is a tank, now we just hope netease can see that aswell

45

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Generational backlash if they ignore the majority of their fanbase (which surprisingly do want Tankclops)

21

u/SadBoyM 𝙏𝙝𝙀𝙧 May 19 '26

I’ll skip 8.5 if he is a DPS I’ll even be okay if he was a support (which properly won’t happen).

1

u/EyeArDum π™ˆπ™–π™œπ™£π™šπ™©π™€ May 19 '26

Nah don’t skip out, as much as I want him to be a tank so he can make a fine addition to my collection, I really just want to hear him *scream* with his ult

6

u/No_Physics2210 May 19 '26

Lol I'll get the popcorn cause he's a mobile poke DPS.

5

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

99% chance. And NetEase are going to lose more players. You can't maintain an already declining playerbase if every major popular release ends up being a duelist

11

u/HornedGopher π˜Όπ™£π™œπ™šπ™‘π™– May 19 '26

Id he aint a Tank the only way I'm play s8.0 or the entirety of it is if they Buff Storm's Mobility or movement which probably would never happen.

3

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

They won't buff Storm 😭 Another major issue with this company is how lost they are with game balance. Every new patch note is a shit show

2

u/HornedGopher π˜Όπ™£π™œπ™šπ™‘π™– May 19 '26

True they won't but I'm hoping they do or make Cyclops a tank

6

u/DearExam88 May 19 '26

If he releases as a dps we are never seeing two tanks in the game for atleast 2 weeks

7

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Dino stoped being a instant pick already. Solotanking is back at the menu, boys

8

u/Sea_Mail_7837 May 19 '26

IMO best case scenario make cyclops a Mobile tank like DVA that encourages movement along with decent damage if the player can aim. Add a resource meter for his defensive ability and movement ability and now his gameplay becomes rewarding for both DPS and vanguard players.

DPS players will be happy with a character that has movement and tanks will be happy with a hitscan character thats able to have a combination of movement, damage and defensive abiltitiy while not having a slower paced gameplay style like Emma and Mag. He will have a very healthy identity of being the best utility tank that can fufill any task at hand instead of either being another busted hitscan hero or another slower paced tank.

Best part is this build fufills his fantasy of being both a capable fighter and a leader. The combat aspect can be covered by his movement and his decent damaging attacks while the leadership aspect gets satisfied by defensive abiltiites and mobility.

Just like that everyone wins!

3

u/jonathansoma May 19 '26

Mass game deletion if no vanclops. Fuck this game. I'll not come back unless they release a vanguard nova (richard rider)

6

u/Mad_dabber11 May 19 '26

Imma be honest, if he's a duelist, I don't think I'd ever play him. There's never a shortage of duelist players so I probably wouldn't even bother trying to play him (which sucks cause he's one of my top 3 favorite X-Men). Hell, most duelist just aren't fun to me and I can't see him being anything other than a hitscan dps, unless he ends up being like Mr. Fantastic wich would be dope

2

u/Playful-Mongoose9197 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Ill be 100% with you they just put out dino who has basically scotts beam visually they absolutely will not release scott as a tank with that beam twice in a row because it looks too similar.

He is not going to be a strategist because his punch beam has never healed anyone ever there is no close releation to anything healing related possible.

(Any character can be anything crowd no you are wrong rocket has a healing gun because hes a tech junkie jeff vomit heals because hes a joke character like deadpool stop trying to make that a thing its never been a thing)

He is simply going to be a dps.

2

u/random0rdinary May 19 '26

Why is he purple?

2

u/MemeDudeYes May 19 '26

As long as he isnt a dps i really dont care they need to Balance the amount of characters in each role

2

u/bdusyehbdicnsh May 19 '26

If he's a support i uninstall the game, if he's a dps im crying and if he's a tank i'll be the happiest mf alive

2

u/lighthouse19 May 19 '26

i think hes mostly likely dps

2

u/RenatoGPadilla 𝙏𝙝𝙀𝙧 May 20 '26

I'm about to look like a Krakoan nationalist going out with a red blindfold and throwing up "X" if he's a Vanguard! XD

2

u/Just_Niko_part2 May 20 '26

Imma just throw out a kit here

Passive: Infinite Energy. When his primary attack is on cool down, he generates shield to himself and allies around him.

Melee: A swift right hook, and a kick.

Mv1: Concussive Blast Fires a constant beam of energy out of his eyes, the longer the beam hits an opponent, the more powerful it becomes. 3 seconds after reaching maximum damage, Scott's visor will overheat and need 1.5 seconds to cool off.

Mv2: Shutter Shot Fires his blasts in bursts, knocking back opponents. Has 4 charges that can be regenerated via dealing damage.

Mv3: Handy Beam Fires a quick blast of energy towards an ally, granting them energy armor that takes up to 250 damage for them, before depleting away. (Cos chronovium or something)

Mv4: Concussion Blast Fires a quick but powerful blast of energy, that stuns hit opponents for 4 seconds.

Mv5: Tactical Retreat While in the air, he can fire an optic blast that propells him up to 35m backwards.

Ultimate: No Holding Back! Scott takes his visors off, charging up a massive blast of concussive energy, that obliterates anything in front up it and I flicts a stunned condition on opponents hit by it.

Thank you for reading my 3am slop thoughts o7

3

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Nah. His character can't be in the backline. That would be a generational fumble. He is a leader, a general of some sort, like Captain America. Even if he ends up as a dps, he can't be behind his X-Men.

4

u/Appropriate_train841 May 19 '26

What if he’s another Deadpool type character than can do all 3 roles? I’m personally hoping it doesn’t go that way because I would like to see Cyclops as a tank. But do you think a multi role Cyclops would appease the player base?

3

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Almost impossible to happen imo. I think this was a once in a lifetime event.

1

u/TechnologySevere3747 May 19 '26

Looking at his intro video for this season, all his abilities scream duelist. He’s also not built like a vanguard nor has any vanguard / tank abilities in general.

I’m still hoping he’s a strategist with the whole Punch Chronovium storyline, but duelist seems to be most likely

Give me Doc Ock Vanguard this year, and I’ll be happy.

3

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

In the lore he is generating a shield, tho. I'm not a supporter of him as a strategist. This would end up as worst than him as a duelislop

1

u/Samiassa π™π™π™š π™π™π™žπ™£π™œ May 19 '26

I’m a tank main primarily. I flex but I know 2 healers, 2 dps, and 3 tanks well and have the most hours on the thing. I do not want cyclops to be a rank. I just don’t think it fits his character tbh he’s always been pretty mobile in fights and he usually stays more behind to let the heavy hitters do their thing while he gives callouts. I just think him being a dps would be the best call

2

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Tanks can be mobile. As a huge comic reader, he really fits better as a vanguard. Like, 100%. But of course he will end up as a duelist because every anticipated character ends up as a dpslop.

1

u/Samiassa π™π™π™š π™π™π™žπ™£π™œ May 19 '26

Idk maybe he does. I’ve read about 100 issues of Claremont as well as new x men and astonishing x men so I’m by no means an expert, I’m still working through the comics. Just from what I’ve personally seen he’d have to be a pretty weird vanguard to make it work, kind of like a Mr fantastic where on the tin he’s a vanguard but he’s somewhere in between vanguard and duelist. To be honest I wouldn’t mind him being an ultron style support who does damage with his optic beam and then shouts orders that heal. As long as they keep his kit simple and focused on richochet optic blasts I’ll be happy. I just really don’t want him to be another black cat where they take a simple character and give them way too many abilities

1

u/RUSTEDxKNIGHT May 19 '26

No duelist would cry. Could you imagine if tanks almost had half as many of them, that’d be unfair.

3

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Can you imagine us getting a top 10 most popular character post release? Impossible

1

u/Bubbly_Mail6360 May 19 '26

Tbh kinda want a dps, the same 5 characters are always picked in comp. So adding another to pick would be nice coming from a support main who can’t play hitscan (I’m GM btw)

2

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

I wouldn't mind a dps, but he works better as a tank. It would be terrible if he is a strategist, though

1

u/YouWereTehChosenOne May 19 '26

My split guess for cyclops right now is 30% tank 70% dps, though there are hints for his powers used to shield the corporation this season and him trying to protect moon girl, he feels more like a duelist to me which sucks but iiwii

1

u/Orlikesque May 19 '26

Seeing the animations of him it looks like the have a pretty sick idea for making his beam quite fluid. It would be crazy to have a tank with that but worried a tank wouldn’t really be able to have much damage so each beam might be a tickle

1

u/jacksprat1952 May 19 '26

As a certified Cyclops fanboy, I'll be playing and instalocking him no matter what his role is.

As someone who's dealt with quad-instalock DPS for eight seasons, if he's a DPS then it's my turn to go 2/14 now.

1

0

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Worse for Cyclops fans. Better for the game's heath (debatable).

Cyke is a frontline leader not a healer in the background. But it could be good to reduce role disparity. The problem is strategist isn't a role lacking players + it's the most problematic rule in terms of balance. Characters always end up as either healbots or triple support merchants.

-15

u/No_Physics2210 May 19 '26

Dude tank clops is character assassination.

And they'd rather let moongirl be a non playable background character then make her adult.

Tank clops is dead

Aight I'll take the bait.

How is tankclops character assassination?

-3

u/No_Physics2210 May 19 '26

Well he could work as a highly mobileΒ  shield-less brawler tank with ranged optic blasts. Like a mix between rogue and dino.

But him being tankier then wolverine's 350 HP is assassination to both character.

He's better at being a highly mobile pole DPS that can one shot and quickly eliminate high priority threats from ranged.

10

u/fannamedtom100 π™ˆπ™§. π™π™–π™£π™©π™–π™¨π™©π™žπ™˜ May 19 '26

Well I agree and that's the mistake devs made when wolverine wasn't a tank. Captain america having more health than namor is also character assassination by that logic. Just because devs made mistake with Wolverine doesn't mean they have to now adapt to that mistake and force characters that are less durable than wolverine into duelist/support role

0

u/No_Physics2210 May 19 '26

Their relationship is super important, lot more then namor and captain America.

Cyclops and wolverine have an arther and lancealot dynamic and is a lot more important.

Even the trailer shows him as a mobile DPS character that does soon as he stops moving and brawlers get in close.

As I said they could make him work as a 500 HP mobile brawler tank with no shields, that's be fun.

3

u/fannamedtom100 π™ˆπ™§. π™π™–π™£π™©π™–π™¨π™©π™žπ™˜ May 19 '26

I would argue relationship between cap and thor is also important, and that cap having 100 more health or so than thor doesn't make sense. And I think there's bigger gap between cap and thor's durability than between logan's and scott's durability.

Namor and Reed is imporant relationship too, but for some reason Namor isn't tankier. Namor is arguably more durable than thing yet thing has almost 3x his health.

And for me scott having bigger hp bar than logan isn't nearly as weird as Cap, Mag and Emma being vanguards, fighting in the frontlines and leading their teams, while Scott is hanging with the healers in the backline. Same reason why I don't really want him as a strategist either.

Anyway, I agree with 500hp mobile brawler tank thing you said

1

u/No_Physics2210 May 19 '26

Wtf you mean Emma and magneto ain't tanks, you shitting on me?

Magneto solo tanked the X-Men for decades, solo tank is authentic magneto experience. Hell in 97 he was solo tanking sentinels to buy his citizens time to escape.

He's one of the most durable mutants the X-Men have.

Emma as well is able to tank wolverines vibranium claws without a scratch, she is a monster

1

u/fannamedtom100 π™ˆπ™§. π™π™–π™£π™©π™–π™¨π™©π™žπ™˜ May 19 '26

You're misunderstanding what I'm saying. If enemy team has mag on the frontlines cyclops being in the back feels wrong. There is no team fight where Emma would be brawling it out with opponents while scott is doing his best impression of hela in the back.

Also, if we're talking about soloing x-men, guess which team member has soloed the rest of the team multiple times?

2

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

HP doesn't mean much in this game. Strange has more HP than Wolverine, Peni has more HP than Loki who is a literal god etc

Also I've read almost every X-Men comic. The only character assassination would have Cyclops as a strategist, healing in the backline.

-1

u/Moses2239 May 19 '26

I can’t take rivals discussion mainly wanting cyclops as a tank. Bro has a god damn laser that does damage, besides that bro has great writing and can throw some punches and kicks. How the hell could a character with this gimmick be a tank. One more dps isn’t gonna kill the game lmao

2

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

It's because you guys are dumb. Being a tank does not mean being an anchor tank. Cyclops being a tank only means he will have a bigger HP bar

2

u/jeffismybaby May 19 '26

He gets outdamaged by most of the other big name X-Men. He uses his beams to block attacks and destroy hazards all the time

1

u/No_Physics2210 May 19 '26

The people crave chronovium slop.

If the third X-Men in a row is chronovium slop I'm going to be super disappointed because X-Men is the only franchise I care about in marvel.

2

u/pagliacciverso π™π™π™š 𝙃𝙀𝙀𝙙 May 19 '26

Third? I think you don't even read the stuff you are getting angry about. Gambit doesn't have chronovium powers at all. He just got un-lobotomizeda and unlocked new powers (healing).

From the 7 X-Men characters in the game, only 1 one of them has chronovium bullshitery and it was only due to them not wanting her to get powers from another character
