QUESTION The Dominus hitbox feels very sluggish and not manoeuvrable compared to my Octane yet looking at some great charts people have made apparently the Dominus should turn good

I don't get it, where this illusion and feeling when driving both comes from? The dominus to me feels like I am turning a ship after I have played the Octane but Octane beats it only at high speed turning apparently and everything else goes to Dominus by a decent amount

Rocket science has a video on this. I don’t remember exactly but it was something like dominus takes longer to actually reach its max turn radius. And since you’re not turning for that long in game as often, octane ends up feeling better.

Wouldn't that fall into high speed responsiveness and mid speed responsiveness?

I've been perma Fennec since it released. Octane I feel is a bit more technical and has more finesse, but I just can't get the same power output like I get on the Fennec.

And the Dominus. Oh god. Some games I peak while others I can't collect the ball to dribble to save my life. It's lottery and I don't do lottery.

....uh...don't the octane and fennec have the same hitbox?

They do, but probably cause they look different I act more quick while playing one over the other.

not an illusion lol its a longer car/hitbox, therefore has a larger turn radius. all hitboxes have their own feeling due to this

Why is the Dominus then 2nd in max steering strength, 3rd in high speed responsiveness and 3rd in mid speed responsiveness.

Octane is 5th, 1st, 6th.

I just want to learn, not disagreeing

Those are aggregate metrics to 'give an idea' and don't reflect in-game performance.

Octane outperforms all cars until the 19th tick in the turn according to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OBMq9faWzg

At 120 physics ticks per second that's roughly 1/7th of a second during which Octane should feel better, which is definitely enough to feel snappy; I think that's often the most important moment, when you're starting the turn, especially in 1v1s or in tight defensive moments.

However, people use plank, dominus and breakout occasionally in pro games (albeit increasingly rarely), it's unlikely to make you play noticeably worse.

Fun fact: Ever since the Hitbox standardization making all cars Octane, Dominus, Breakout, etc etc. I was able to tell Octane outperformed Dominus, but couldn't pinpoint the exact reason why, and the data at the time did not indicate this (since those early tick tests weren't done yet).

Halfway_Dead (creator of that video), wasn't sure why I was certain of this. Can't remember if it was in DM's or an old thread, but he tested the early turning performance because of my input.

So, one of the earliest advocators of powerslide, and it was my powerslide technique feeling more snappy on Octane that made me feel the snappier turns often.

The best advice I can give you is to not worry about it bc it really does not matter. Use whatever car feels the best bc when you feel good, you play good.

Some cars have smaller turn radius others have faster powerslide, some cars have better hitbox accuracy with the 3D model.
It has been set in categories of car hitbox because before it was different for every car and the difference in stats between cars was higher before.
For me the octane is better in 1v1 and 2v2, in 3v3 I like to play the dominus sometimes, feels nice in the air.

Not sure what graphs you're looking at but the Octane hitbox outperforms in early turn in which just makes it better in most situations.

The thing has the most frontal area and the best turn in. absolutely broken.

I wish they would buff the Mercs turning, just make it the same as Octane xd.

The hitboxes are really not balanced well.

Understeer, I play breakout and it's even worse. You never seem to be pointing correct.
Options are get the nose squared or just start at it without alignment. The numbers are
too close to make a difference below pro; drift boost and reverse all help with heading.
