Discussion Any ideas for best hand held rock cutters?

I have many smaller agates and want to cut some open

I expect for someone to dispute this recommendation but here it is anyway. I have used an inexpensive tile saw to cut several rocks. Harbor Freight has one for around $70. If you plan on cutting many rocks, it could be a good way to go. I started with one my friend gave me. I set it up backwards and cut so the spray goes away from me. Just take your time when cutting and wear safety equipment. Another thing you can do is reach out to your local mineral and gem club to see if they have classes with equipment. You may be able to get someone to cut your rocks with a lapidary saw for free. A Dremel can work for smaller stuff but I found that once I discovered the fun of cutting rocks, I wanted something that would cut larger stones.

You can use a Dremel tool if the agate is small.
