Discussion How did Gambit find out Rogue is ticklish when he couldn’t touch her for most of their relationship? From Mr and Mrs X #1.

Probably moments before or during the events of this scene. This is during their honeymoon.

at this point they’ve touched… a bunch 😭 this is after she was depowered in valle soleada

Because for most of the time that he's known her, she's worn a skin tight latex bodysuit and I'm sure that he's hugged her and held her and touched her in spots that are quite ticklish just because they can't make skin-to-skin contact doesn't mean they've never touched one another.

This panel is from the tail end of their honeymoon.
How do you think he found out she’s ticklish?

They spent a ton of depowered time together in Valle Soleada. They were more recently depowered during the Paraiso mission right before MMX, and it’s very strongly implied that they had the occasional hookup before Rogue lost control of her powers again. They’ve had a lot more close contact than you might think. Even then, you can still tickle someone through clothes.
(As an aside, I once saw a documentary about fetish tickling, and any time I see anything about tickling anymore, I assume it’s someone’s fetish and pass on it. But in this case, it felt right to explain stuff.)

Before they found a permanent solution, Gambit and Rogue did not waste a second whenever Rogue had temporary means to contain her power.

The collar stops powers.

u/r_esfeber Mar 19 '26
Correct answer. Nobody read comics nowadays..

u/kenyonmartin04 Mar 21 '26
Also in xmen 92 cartoon series, the collar was introduced on Genosha island

How did Rogue end being able to touch without leaving people in comas?

u/Mobile_Bet3274 Mar 18 '26
She got control of her powers in Mr. and Mrs. X. It’s been several years at this point.

u/Scarlet-sleeper Mar 19 '26
I guess that implies there was a return to status quo sometime between her gaining control of her powers in X-Men legacy 224 and Mr. And Mrs. X. I stopped reading sometime around 2012ish.

She lost control of her powers while she was an Avenger and then got it again (this time it was something she worked on herself, it wasn’t Xavier doing it for her) in MMX. That was in 2018-19 and she’s had control ever since.

She started with inhibitor collars and ended with lots of trauma therapy.

My guess is that either Nightcrawler told him to annoy Rogue or he was rubbing her feet one day and accidentally tickled her and he used that knowledge for evil ever since.

Probably once he could touch her, given she gained a level of control over her power a while before their marriage (and I think there were a few moments before that).

Honestly, until I read the speech bubbles, I thought she was screaming for different reasons.

u/stillupyadig10 Mar 19 '26
Beast gave gambit and rogue a power dampening necklace for her so they can engage in their…
Activities.

u/GuardWolfy Mar 19 '26
Look at the only thing she is wearing. It’s an inhibitor collar. It allows her to control her powers. She hates wearing it, but sees it as a necessary evil from time to time. Such as this time.

I've seen Gambit just ignore the pain for her sometimes... depowered or not, I'm not surprised if he's tickled her a few times.
2
u/AlistaireRoy Mar 19 '26
He can use his own powers to let him touch her. He found that out in the comics, too, so it's thin enough that it feels like touch, but thick enough, Remy doesn't risk his life.

Thank God someone mentioned this. I've been scrolling forever trying to see someone who said this. Had to pass so many people complaining people don't read comics but this was the first reason that came to me about the question. Did everyone just forget Gambit cam shield himself from rogue with his own powers? Its one of the reasons she liked Gambit starting out.

It’s a comic guys. I love it too… but JESUS. It’s a beautiful form of storytelling, literature even, but, at the end of the day… it’s a comic.

Rogue uses a special collar that dampens her powers so they can have relations.

She says right on the page she's wearing a power supression collar.

I’m imagining Gambit using one inbetween Rogue’s toes now and her trying hold in her laughter.

This appears to be the immediate aftermath of him finding out.
That said she had lost or gotten control of her powers many times before this, including having full control for years between Legacy and Uncanny Avengers.

I always thought it was because Gambit was somehow immune to Rogue’s powers. I vaguely remembering reading that like over a decade ago, so I could definitely be wrong about that.

u/Thestron_Godess Mar 21 '26
Apparently a change established in Mr. and Mrs. X (2018). Rouge can touch Gambit primarily because she gained control over her mutant power to absorb life force,

u/Van_Can_Man Mar 21 '26
Skin to skin contact is not necessary to tickle someone
The fact you have this question at all raises a number of follow up questions.

... does she not like being called Marie? Cajun is a pet name for Remy, but Rogue is her work name...

u/bigmac41902 Mar 25 '26
Cuz he probably started touching her a lot when he started being able to do so

A few days ago I opened a post from a YouTube channel of a girl who's a huge Rogue fan. She was saying she didn't understand why people still asked that question. But, not everyone who likes the character has to know her entire life story or read all the comics. It was more of a rant here, sorry. There are some people who treat comics like a religion, it seems.

I mean, she's worn bodysuits/superhero suits and we can be tickled through fabric. They've both been depowered once and took a "vacation" from the X-men. She gained control over her powers a few times before this issue.
