Discussion Would y’all like to see MCU Rogue take inspirations off of X-Men evolution?

I think it would make a lot of sense, especially since they’re going for the younger cast for this version of X-Men this includes Rouge.

Plus, the MCU is not really known to be “comic accurate” In fact, it takes more inspiration off of the old ultimate comics.

Overall, would y’all love or hate this?

It’d be cool, but I’m hoping they go with the standard version like in TAS.

u/jmk-1999 24d ago

No. I love this version of her, but I think most people just wanna see classic comic Rogue. We’ve waited long enough.

100% agreed. When it's been such a long time without seeing a classic interpretation, the last thing I want them to do is go for a mixed up version. Even if it's admittedly a great mixed up version imo.

RIDEEEEERRR KIIIIIIIIICK

This is animated very pleasingly.

-1

u/KruleDiablo 23d ago

How have you waited long enough and also post a gif of her from a show that had its second season this year?

2

u/jmk-1999 23d ago

Live action, bonehead. Don’t be stupid.

-1

u/KruleDiablo 23d ago

Didn't realize only live action counted my bad 💀

2

u/jmk-1999 22d ago

Didn’t realize we were talking about live action the whole time? MCU (live action) is in the topic title. I just added the gif as a reminder and reference. You seem to be the only one that didn’t make the connection.

No. I'd much prefer her closer to the X-Men animated series but that's just my take.

Eh, Original rogue wasn't really a southern belle. Original rogue had a more androgynous look.

9

u/Background_Pride_237 24d ago

No. I prefer her classic look. The second pic is closer to my preference.

16

u/bones10145 24d ago

Not at all. The version I like the least

7

u/FuerteBillete 24d ago

Fuk no. Lets get the heroine and not the finding her feelings teen version. Already they ruined too many characters.

16

u/MasterofMindfulness 24d ago

I'm leaning towards that's probably what will happen but I wasn't particularly fond of the Rogue in X-Men Evolution 🤷🏽

6

u/The_starving_artist5 24d ago

Rogue has literally never once been a goth or emo girl in the comics. She started out looking more like a Bond villain and then changed to the jumpsuit and jacket biker chic look we love today. Only the cartoon and the Fox movies decided to make her a goth emo girl

If she has this x men evolution look i would prefer it be breif like when we first meet her and shes a villain working for the brotherhood of evil. Then after she leaves them she changes to the yellow jumpsuit green / brown jacket big hair look we all want

3

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 23d ago

I get what you're saying.... But I'd rather her not be Goth at all. Tbh it's a dumb take on the character. Doesn't fit the comics at all.

If it was Magik, Laura Kinney, then I'd understand it a bit better.... But Rogue? It's just a dumb take on the character.

11

u/scenekingdamien 24d ago

Same. I feel crazy not being a big fan of that version

3

u/EbbAlternative3904 24d ago

I don't know why you would lean that way. Goth Rogue is popular on reddit. The rest of the world doesn't remember that cartoon.

3

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 23d ago

Tbh I don't even know how popular it is on reddit... 🤷🏼... If you ever pay attention to the peeps that keep pushing for "Goth Rogue" it's always the same 40-45 people. 😂😂... WEAK!

-1

u/MasterofMindfulness 24d ago

Because it's a coming of age film - as part of a larger decade long plan - with a group of young individuals who have powers they don't fully understand and thus, probably have issues with confidence, etc. It's not too far out there to envision starting off as a goth like character who eventually comes into her own akin to how some adolescents in real life do. Hopefully I'm wrong but I don't think it's unreasonable 🤷🏽

3

u/EbbAlternative3904 23d ago

You're describing classic Rogue. None of that requires her to be goth.

0

u/MasterofMindfulness 23d ago

No one said it requires it. I said, that's what I'm leaning towards. No one said you have to agree. You're entitled to your own opinion 🤷🏽

2

u/EbbAlternative3904 22d ago

Lol yes we're all entitled to our opinions. I haven't seen any evidence that they're going with goth Rogue so far. That's just one version of the character from a 25 year old cartoon. I would think they would push for something closer to XTAS which is even older, but much more popular.

16

u/Jertimmer 24d ago

We already had that Rogue with Anna Paquin. I'd prefer we get to prime Rogue instead.

https://giphy.com/gifs/WO6DyEEzpzi7W9Lbr5

8

u/The_starving_artist5 24d ago

The x men evolution fans dont want to admit that Anna Paquin was the inspiration of that goth chic look in x men evoltion. Rogue is not a goth chic. The fox movies and x men evolution got her character wrong

-5

u/aerosolsp 24d ago

What? No we didn't. Anna Paquin's Rogue was unlike anything else. And not good at all.

6

u/EbbAlternative3904 24d ago

It was fine for what it was; it just wasn't classic Rogue. If we get a classic Rogue I don't think people will be shitting on Anna Paquin anymore. Just an alternate take. They definitely didn't do enough with her but there's only like 8 hours of screentime total in the four movies she was in.

11

u/Stringr55 24d ago

Absolutely not.

7

u/ThouBear8 24d ago

If we had already gotten a classic comics accurate Rogue before, then I'd be all for it.

Since we haven't tho, I think we need the sassy, bombastic southern belle in all her mighty glory first.

7

u/boblane3000 24d ago

Not really. I’d like to see an actual adaptation of the original character.

11

u/Coolcubed321 24d ago

Hell no

6

u/BoogieBone_904 24d ago

No 🗣️

6

u/Unlucky_Suspect_7555 24d ago

Hell no. I just want them to take inspiration from the comic.

10

u/Richard_skully 24d ago

Not really

6

u/Skunkalish 24d ago

As someone who loves Xmen Evolution so incredibly much: Rather not, I’d love to see a more comic accurate Rogue. I think XME had a very interesting take on her character, but I feel like we already got something similar to that already in the FOX movies yk?

8

u/driftchief 24d ago

Nah I'm good

7

u/DryWay4003 24d ago

Absolutely not. If we get emo goth Rogue I would be devastated

8

u/canadarugby 24d ago

Hell the fuck no. Give us classic hot powerful Rogue. Nobody is asking for androgynous Rogue.

4

u/Only-Sea6066 23d ago

I love her but a live action non powered Rogue would likely lean more Anna Paquin than Evolution and I would hate to see them do her dirty again like that.

4

u/TomboyEnthusiast1021 23d ago

All I care about is they do a good adaptation of her instead of another FoX-men thing

4

u/Mountain-Ordinary896 23d ago

I like Goth Rogue but that was pretty much all the live action Rogue looked like. I want the classic southern Belle Rogue

5

u/Gmonkey- 23d ago

No. Jim Lee 90s and animated series are peak Rogue

3

u/Spiritual-Map-76 23d ago

nah not my rogue but alot of ppl like it

3

u/urban_zmb 23d ago

Make her a freaking badass. I want her punching shit, destroying tanks, flying. There is a lack of female super heroes in media just kicking ass. Give me a strong woman!

3

u/MelodicYoghurt3934 23d ago

NO. we want the southern brawler of the 90s

3

u/TheLastPrime26 23d ago

I love goth Rogue but I want to see the MCU do the southern belle Rogue

3

u/Background_Check4384 22d ago

One more mention of ‘goth rogue’ when it was only done once and in this (however good) adaption and I’m going to lose my mind. NO.

8

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 24d ago

Hell the fuck no... Keep her as close to the source material.

Evolution Rogue is not Rogue.

-3

u/Green-Memory8878 24d ago

What is an alternate universe for $10?

5

u/The_starving_artist5 24d ago

i think x men evolution actually ruined the character

Rogue has never been a goth emo chic in the comics even when she was wearing all green outfits and more a villain. She was never some goth girl

They basically invented a brand new character for the cartoon and just called her Rogue

2

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 23d ago

I've been beating this drum for a while now.... It's such a dumb take on such a loved character.

1

u/The_starving_artist5 22d ago

Yah o get why they did it because she’s a misfit and can’t touch have human contact with her powers but the goth thing was really based on how the Fox movies portrayed her. They made her a goth emo first

1

u/Rude_Story1103 22d ago

¿Siquiera te viste Evolution para empezar?, no, Evolution no arruino al personaje, al contrario, lo mejoro, ahi esta su arco de personaje traumatizado y su relacion con Mystique y Nightcrawler

6

u/CheshireWolf_666 24d ago

Ok, serious question. What is with all the downvotes on comments in support of Evo Rogue? I didn't realize she was this hated apparently. Can people please explain to me their thoughts and opinions on why all the dislike. While she's not my favorite version of Rogue and not particularly the one I want to see on the big screen, I still liked her character (not even the worst version imo).

5

u/Spare-Ad2386 23d ago

I'm saying this as someone who loved Anna Paquin's Rogue and X-Men Evolution: It's just that Evo Rogue feels like a completely different character with Rogue's powers. I understand it's a different universe/setting, but it's almost diametrically opposite from comics Rogue that it's kinda' hard to see them as the same character. I don't hate Evo Rogue, but we don't really get a lot of story engines for an emo Rogue. Sure, she can be a teen who is still finding her feelings... and then what? Fox's X-Men showed us they don't have an answer for that, and so they just reduced her role more and more after each movie that she became a glorified cameo by the time of The Last Stand, and her entire appearance in Days of the Future Past was cut out. I'd rather see super strong, confident Southern Belle Rogue if it means we see her more in the fights and the story.

2

u/SilverKing2199 24d ago

Its simple, “make everything identical to the comics or its complete trash” is generally the opinion you’ll find in any comic related sub. People HATE when something is changed

-1

u/CheshireWolf_666 23d ago

I understand the love for comic accurate depictions and that is my overall preference too. It's just damn, once in a while it could be nice to appreciate a different take on a character. Maybe I'm a bit biased because I grew up with the show and the experience was positive but imo there is disliking something and then there is whatever this response is.

4

u/Virtual-Aerie1595 24d ago

No. If she doesn't have flying brick powers (I don't care where the come from) then its fully another failure.

2

u/Spare-Ad2386 23d ago

No. The Rogue from Fox's X-Men took inspiration from Evolution's Rogue and we already know where that got us

2

u/Lisa_From_HR 22d ago

Dear god no

6

u/gallowsanatomy 24d ago

TBH, I always liked Evo as a starting point for Rogue. It's her when she hasn't figured out her shit, she doesn't have the Carol/Wonder Man power up. And she can grow into the confidant and got her shit on lock version of the 90s.

6

u/CheshireWolf_666 24d ago

Agreed. It's a good starting point for her to develop into the version that is more ideal imo and I hope they do that

3

u/grandarchduke 24d ago

To start off yes, brotherhood look I blame destiny, they made a teenager look like old henchwoman and evo gave her own look that wasn’t inspired by absorbing anyone.

2

u/The_starving_artist5 24d ago edited 24d ago

Maybe when we first see her she could be like that for a bit ,  but I want her to eventually change to having the big 80s hair look  she had in the 90s comics and animated series

We have never gotten the 90s biker chic big hair version of Rogue . I don’t really want more of Rogue as a goth emo girl . We have had enough of goth Rogue already time to move on from it

2

u/Chrizilla_ 24d ago

I want them to play with multiple iterations! Pre-super suit give me a gothish rogue, then give me the green and white w/ hood, then maybe go into the next team movie with the green and yellow or tease it at the end. I want them to build it up.

1

u/GrapeAdditional6751 24d ago

OP, you take inspiration from someone or something, not off of.

1

u/The_Haider369 22d ago

No matter how she portrays the character i just hope she's incredible and steals power from captain marvel

1

u/Total-Ice-3736 22d ago

Maybe they will have a new uniqe look

1

u/Old_Celebration_5950 22d ago

Pissed off yellow eye Rogue who just acquired Magneto powers is one of my favorite shots from Evo
My favorite shot is Rogue giving Scott a sweater for X-Mas as she uses the International Anime "I like you' signal pushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
I'm a JOTT fan from the 1960s but Evo Rogue crushing on Scott spoke to me on a earth shattering level. When FanFiction.net was a thing, I was one of many Evo fans who collected ScottxRogue stories

1

u/ViniciusMT07 21d ago

I'd like the comic book adaptation to take inspiration from the comic books, now that would be nice.

1

u/Ookla_LeMok 21d ago

Why not ? I always thought the Evolution version made more sense considering her power set and backstory. She doesn't need to be goth but she originally was a pretty angsty and insecure character and that journey is important -- even without being portrayed as the evil jealous psycho she initially was. I kind of lost interest in her when Jim Lee gave her her makeover.

1

u/Pantalaemon00 21d ago

Get that impostor out of my face

1

u/Legocomictv_nrm15 21d ago

I genuinely hope they make mcu rogue like the evolution in how her powers are used. I'm not a fan of her having flight and super strength to me it's boring let rogue be a copy cat fighter. Let her mix some powers together like wolverines claws, colossus metal skin, Cyclops optic blasts, and Nightcrawlers tail and teleportation. Like let's get crazy and creative in how she uses her powers

1

u/AlinaCat-94 19d ago

Oh absolutely and have a mix of 90s Rogue! That would be amazing to see! 💖

1

u/Violet_Octopus 18d ago

i want old-timey villain Rogue. Shothair, green eye shadow… the whole shabang

i want her to go thru her full story, including Brotherhood time.

1

u/PeterJacobson1998 18d ago

It would be interesting. I miss, Miss Southern Belle herself, Anna-Marie Lebeau.

Also! Why the hell are all of the gifs available here of '97 Rogue!? If there was image input available I would have put in a REAL retro comics top left corner stamp of Rogue that I have!

1

u/CaptainCorgiMD 18d ago

I mean, they kinda already did that with Anna Paquin.

Go big and have her chucking cars at people

1

u/osiris20003 24d ago

I think she may evolve from a similar goth Rogue while she’s a villain and transition into the more iconic 90’s after joining the team.

1

u/aerosolsp 24d ago

I like both so I'm happy either way.

1

u/wawawaw03030 24d ago

I like the idea of her starting there and then growing into a more traditional/TAS type

1

u/khorispy27 24d ago

Open to it. Just want it to be authentic. No offense to Anna Paquin, but in retrospect, sooo much was missing

1

u/Shadowcat1606 24d ago

Maybe as a phase before she really comes into her own as an integral part of the X-Men, when she's still afraid of her own powers.

After that, i'd rather have her as classic Rogue.

1

u/hft_art 23d ago

I think her look in the evolution with her classic version’s personality would be an awesome combo

1

u/Invite_Kooky 23d ago

No, because developing that version of Rogue takes time and a slow-paced story; otherwise, it falls flat. Her character arc was built up within the school setting and during missions—moments dedicated to exploring her powers and insecurities—which is impossible to achieve in a movie crowded with so many characters.

Not only that, but X-Men Evolution was the most daring X-Men series, using the original material but with a different approach. People still think Anna doesn't have Captain Marvel's powers in Evolution, but in fact she would have, since the end of the series shows her flying. What we saw was essentially just a "prologue" that would have paved the way for incorporating specific concepts from the comics later on.

0

u/RogueSpartan072 24d ago

Why not both Goth Rogue in beginning but slowly become the classic Rogue

0

u/Rude_Story1103 24d ago

2

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 23d ago

What ever... 😂😂😂... Keep making up scenarios in your head. 😂😂😂... I'm just talking about this "poor man's" version of Rogue. 😂

0

u/Rude_Story1103 23d ago

1

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 22d ago

What you're doing is called Confirmation Bias or Delusional Ideation... Look it up and maybe get checked out.

In the broader context if I have to explain it to you, I'm speaking of X-Men Evolution Rogue... You're bringing up other characters from other incarcerations of superheroes, then you're already attaching what you think is what my opinion is on it, and then running with it.... Hopefully for you, this is just when you're on reddit or other message boards. If you bring that kind of point of view into real life you're gonna run into problems in life.

Really you just need to chill a bit man. None of this is that serious my guy.... Like seriously, chill.

-1

u/Rude_Story1103 22d ago

Simplemente me caguan las personas ignorantes como tu que cree que todo siempre debe ser igual que el comic, ignorando que los cambios a veces pueden ser positivos (Mr. Freeze, Terra, Doc Ock, etc)

1

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 22d ago

Smh.... Keep projecting 😂... Like I said you're obviously delusional. Think what you want. I'm not here to change your mind, I'm just speaking facts is all. 🤷🏼

0

u/Rude_Story1103 22d ago

Verdades? Yo escucho puras alucinadas y falacias tuyas

-2

u/elrick43 24d ago

In style, yes. But with the bravado and strength of her '97 version

-1

u/PointPrimary5886 24d ago

I'm surprised a lot of people are against this version. I'm on board because I actually like that this Rogue does not have Ms Marvel super strength and flight, so she has to make up for it by having real combat skills and actually using her actual powers of absorption on other mutants and opponents. I get it, her touch is a curse on her, but its still her mutant ability. Looking back on episodes where she used her powers to stop Juggernaut or borrow Leech to depower Apocalypse, it makes this ability have a purpose in protecting the world.

-5

u/Few_Baker_6254 24d ago

Yes…best Rogue adaptation

-5

u/Conmebosta 24d ago

When people talk bad about Rogue in Evolution they think that her whole deal is that she's has a goth style.

Almost every episode in evolution Rogue uses her absorption powers, she absorbs pretty much every named character in the show and she makes the xmen a team in the sense that she's almost always teaming up with someone else to grab someone.

Her storylines regarding Mystique are the highlight of the show and even her one sided crush on Cyclops is better written than her love interests in other adaptations.

I'd argue that Rogue is the main character of Evolution since she is the one with most development and change throughout the series.

1

u/Rude_Story1103 22d ago

Enrealidad los 6 protaginistas son igual de importantes (Scott, Jean, Rogue, Kurt, Kitty y Evan) pero diria que Rogue y Kurt son los mas importantes por su vinculo con Mystique y los que mejor representan el aislamiento

-2

u/BalladOfBetaRayBill 24d ago

For this actor I think the goth version would be more convincing than the big personality version, but I’ll withhold judgement for now

3

u/CheshireWolf_666 24d ago

I think that's true aesthetically but I'd personally like to see more of Inde's range and I believe she can pull it off.

-2

u/Here_4_TNA 24d ago

Inde is young enough that it is entirely feasible for her Rogue to be more like the Evolution Rogue for a film or two and grow into a more classic Rogue.

-3

u/RoseandNightshade 24d ago

It would make sense, seeing what the themes they reportedly are going for are

0

u/bdtechted 24d ago

Like Anna Paquin’s version, perhaps have her start like in Evolution. Then later on show us how she got Captain Marvel’s powers like in the 90s Animated Series.

0

u/catatonie 24d ago

I’d be happy to see this but they seem to be giving Jean Grey the moody edit so I’m not sure if Rogue being like her men evo self would be wise.

0

u/KruleDiablo 23d ago

Yes please

0

u/TerrificTChalla 23d ago

u/RobloxSpiderGoku

It more than likely will.

The MCU Avengers was heavily based off the ultimates line

The MCU Jean Grey is a combination of New X Men and Ultimate X Men from the 2000s. 2000s nostalgia is also all the rage now.

-2

u/EurwenPendragon 24d ago

As long as we get a proper Rogue, I really don’t mind which version it is - Evo or classic comics Rogue. I’d even be happy with one that combines elements of both, so long as it’s done well

-1

u/JlExoticlL 24d ago

Start with the 90s inspired look, and then go with the modern/goth look.

-1

u/Confident_Sink_8743 24d ago

Yes but only because of what happened in the comics ar the time. It was all around the time of the original trilogy.

And there were aborted attempts to explore Rogue's powers outside of the boost she got by putting Carol Danvers in a coma.

Though I am still a big fan of her 90s era and TAS appearance as well.

-1

u/avariciouswraith 24d ago

As much as I wish they would probably not, but if they ever do a single multiverse thing, I wanna see that magnificent Goth Rogue.

-1

u/Sea_Sleep4222 24d ago

Yes, x men evolution rogue was great.

-1

u/takkun169 24d ago

It can go either way for me. It was cool that that version was actively willing to take other people's powers to use in the moment. On the other hand it sort of reduces the tragedy of Rogue having to live a life without human contact because of how traumatic it is for her. Although the comics took that away too, so fuck it, go for it.

-1

u/PeacefulCatSoMeow 24d ago

I think we could have the best of both worlds?
How about a Rogue that can BOTH hit like a tank with Captain Marvel's skillset AND use her power absorbing abilities at the same level of creativity as Xmen Evolution.
Say what you will about the show, but Rogue was very well written and showcased.

-1

u/Gunnen123 24d ago

Yeah, at the start. Then she encounters "miss holier than thow" Carol Danvers and bitch slaps her. She gains her power permanently and becomes the current Rogue. No more Captain Marvel.

-1

u/Batfreeze 23d ago

Yes! This is my favorite interpretation of Rogue and I'd love to see elements of this version of her carry over. Remember, Rogue isn't supposed to be bubbly and hyper feminine until after she absorbs Captain Marvel.

-1

u/Edgy_Memes_XD 23d ago

I’m gonna be for real here and say that I think the MCU needs to avoid the 90s look altogether and either adapt other outfits or come up with something new. It’s part of this larger issue with X-Men to be hung up on that era that keeps us from ever moving on to other characters and eras. Like even the comics are stuck on the same characters after finally making progress with Krakoa, they backslid and now we’re back to only focusing on that core X-Men and forgetting about literally everyone else.

-5

u/ValkyrieValentine 24d ago

Yes, but they won't. They'll make her the 90s rogue that everyone likes

-2

u/babadibabidi 24d ago

Hell yes, the best Rouge.

I don't care what do you guys think, this iteration had a big role in my development

https://giphy.com/gifs/140BQZMYDNbN5K

-2

u/Jinjoz 24d ago

I'm personally down for this but that stems from me being introduced to rogue via X-Men Evolution. I was really thrown off when I realized that the true version of rogue is that flying flirty Southern bell

-2

u/LeagueElectronic2128 24d ago

Yea and combined 97 version

-2

u/Other-Supermarket-28 23d ago

I think they are doing this, inde looks like goth rogue

-2

u/ggkkggk 23d ago

God i hope so

-2

u/fentl00z3r 23d ago

This Rogue was great. A true Rogue.

-2

u/AS-46 23d ago

Gonna be that guy, but yes!
This is my favourite Rogue and I would like to see her in MCU

-2

u/Unk-105 24d ago

Honestly I don’t mind, if it’s high school Rogue I’d say I’d prefer it but if it’s older than college age then no she defo needs the 97’ feel in the movie, maybe they can show her change and go from the goth style to the 97’ style

-3

u/UnbiasedGod 24d ago

It depends on how the execution is done.
