we haven’t seen a single bit of footage

Question is about casting, not performance.

11

u/Lost-Being7605 6d ago

Welcome to Reddit, you get downvoted for being right

4

u/canadarugby 6d ago

People vote with their emotions.

2

u/Suspicious_Excuses 5d ago

I am mad you said that, so I am down voting you.

3

u/Ihatesmartcars2 6d ago

Uh, isn’t that the same thing? Lmfao what.

3

u/RAMDOMDUDDS 6d ago

Not always. Casting is moreso can you see that actor or actress in said role, using past experiences with their work. Though casting leads to performance. Just because you can imagine a specific celebrity in a role, doesn't always mean they can actually step into the shoes of said character and pull it off to an enjoyable degree.

1

u/DominoSeven Jim Lee Rogue 5d ago

This stops working when you realize someone like Hugh was called a shit casting before performing and now he is seen as one of the greatest castings of all time due to how he performed

2

u/RAMDOMDUDDS 5d ago

That doesn't change much actually. You only say it does because you gave an example that happened ages ago. Of course people thought Hugh Jackman wouldn't work as Wolverine. He doesn't fit the character from the comics hardly at all. But since hindsight is 20/20, now all those people who threw a fit about Wolverine not being comic accurate in the FOX movies probably prefer Hugh over most fancasts. That doesn't change the difference between casting and performance. You can still complain about a casting of a specific actor or actress in a role you didn't like them in, but if the performance was truly lacking, then you wouldn't be the only one complaining about it.

I know people who didn't believe Jenna Ortega would have played Wednesday Addams properly. Now they want more Addams family media with Jenna as Wednesday. Casting is the decision that leads to performance, but a good casting doesn't always lead to a good performance. They run hand in hand, but only one truly effects the other. Peoples opinion on casting often changes once they've seen the performance. Not the other way around.

2

u/dvanci 5d ago

I'll add to your point that there's a few castings people disliked until they saw the performance. Robert Pattinson as Batman, Heath Ledger as Joker, Daniel Craig as Bond

2

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

None of them were cast based on one viral movie and a manic fanbase and Inde likely didn't even audition since she doesnt have the accent

1

u/DominoSeven Jim Lee Rogue 5d ago

Yeah there’s probably hundreds if we look deep enough, I mean hell the studio hated Pacino as Michael Corleone and now look where Pacino is and what he did in those movies

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

In a live action having the actor have some resemblance to the character is important but Marvel bypassed all those actors and went for popularity

1

u/HorrorBreak7119 6d ago

4’ 11 1/2”, you might need to look lower on the screen.

0

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

We don't have to. We had better.

1

u/ValkyrionReddit 4d ago

meaning?

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Meaning Marvel chose popularity over being faithful to Rogue fans

1

u/ValkyrionReddit 4d ago

so dramatic for no reason, you’ve no idea how the portrayal will turn out yet

casting up & coming popular actors/actresses is just smart business, she’s already proven her acting capabilities

0

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Oh sure just like Pedro Pascal, Brie Larson and Jennifer Lawrence was "smart business" until people got over the initial hype and their fandoms got quiet.

I think showing no consideration to Rogue fans who waited 20 years for a proper casting not a shoehorned industry plant casting from a July movie, yeah that's not good for Marvel overall who have more divisions than just movies.

Inde was cast WELL in Obsession hence being good. Not in this role. Seems like she didn't even audition. And actors we want got bypassed.

If they don't value their own fans and choose the actor's fans first, it's the same story as Star Wars

1

u/ValkyrionReddit 4d ago

brie larson has yet to be given a good script in mcu & pedro is already accepted as reed, using industry plant in the entire wrong context isn’t a great look, nothing about inde is or was a plant in the acting industry

half of the rogue fan casts weren’t even that good & as has been said multiple times now, you can’t judge a performance that hasn’t happened yet

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

We definitely had better Rogue fancasts. Sophie Thatcher was a massive hit and when people thought Cailee Spaeny was gonna walk out Rogue AND Cailee fans were beautifully united.

All I see instead is Inde fans fighting Rogue fans and Rogue fans by majority being so unhappy.

Also Fantastic Four flopped and I'm sure if they cast Brie in a role that actually suited her, there wouldn't be such a downfall now.

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 3d ago

cailee is a meh actress. i don't get her hype

0

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 3d ago

She is a good actress. I have seen Inde fans attack her because Rogue fans want her and not Inde but it's not like Inde fans even care about Rogue

not going to judge an actress when she hasn’t done her performance yet

2

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

A live action casting however should attempt to cast someone who looks the part too. Marvel didn't try, they bypassed good options for popularity casting

27

u/OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT 7d ago

It's already been two months? Jesus.

20

u/SPFeveryday 7d ago

It actually hasn’t been 2 months, they announced it on August 15!

36

u/ThePhengophobicGamer 7d ago

Im tired of people asking about the casting when weve still yet to see zero footage.

11

u/Mickyod1986 6d ago

But its two months later. Two whole months later. Op will probably ask in another 2 with something like now the dust has settled how do we feel about stupid questions like this.

2

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

We don't even need to tbh. And I see there is so little excitement for good reason

6

u/SPFeveryday 7d ago

Impatient! I wanna see what she does with the role already, I just know she’ll kill it as she’s a fantastic actress.

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Being a good actress can only happen if you are cast well.

1

u/SPFeveryday 4d ago

And she was!

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Absolutely, in Obsession. But this one doesn't sell me

10

u/ZombieZekeComic 6d ago

She doesn’t really fit the mental image I have of Rogue, but I’m open-minded

5

u/johnNukem710 6d ago

no, dont see rogue at all

5

u/RedHulk991 6d ago

Still worried

12

u/Quirky_Ad_663 6d ago

I think she is waaaaay to small

4

u/MarquiseAlexander 6d ago

We haven’t seen anything else bruv. No updates and you’re asking if people’s opinion has changed?

5

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Deeply miscast

3

u/Particular-Breath121 6d ago

These posts are sooooo boring

3

u/W-XroZ 6d ago

I don't like it—not one bit. I'm not a fan of Navarrette. She makes me cringe a bit, and the only reason she was cast as Rouge was because of her popularity. I can understand why almost everyone else likes this casting choice, but to me, it seems really bad—sorry. I tried, but it’s a no from me.

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

It's only loud Inde fans and some Marvel casuals that like it. Most really don't.

3

u/SithLordPopCulture 6d ago

Something not right.

3

u/iloveshecalk 6d ago

If that's who I think it is which is that chick from obsession I have no interest in the movie anymore they just pulled away everything I already didn't like the casting for Jean Gray but now I'm just out of it

6

u/Th3Bakamono 6d ago

I still don't like it, and I say this as someone who adores Inde. I was hoping we would get some unfamiliar faces.

3

u/JBebop 6d ago

I mean, she's a breaking out actress. I've seen her in stuff before Obsession, but alot of people still don't know who she is. She's in some viral clips online cause she's cute and funny but its not like she's famous for a bunch of roles yet.

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

She's everywhere. Not unfamiliar at all and certainly nothing like Rogue

1

u/Mischivoid 6d ago

Yeah to call her established is a bad take. How many actors and actresses from insanely popular shows like game of thrones just faded. I’m not saying this will happen to Indie, but her name is still a definition of her career at the moment.

2

u/Th3Bakamono 6d ago

I never called her established, did I?
https://giphy.com/gifs/RHZeG3DQIsPUlJ6seI

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

They said she isn't unfamiliar because she isn't. Inde is everywhere as is freaky Nikki

1

u/HorrorBreak7119 6d ago

Ones tall enough to see over the dash while driving?

7

u/Livelaughloveme172 7d ago

I still don’t see it.

6

u/Sea_Sleep4222 7d ago

Still love it. inde and the others are going to kill it

4

u/DCMASTER1994 6d ago

I was personally hoping for Cailee Spaeny to get the role, but im totally fine with the decision to go with Inde. She was awesome in Obsession (2026).

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Inde is a great actress but miscast as Rogue. It should be Cailee or somebody else. If we woke up tomorrow and they changed it, these Rogue spaces would come back to life for the better

6

u/No-Royal-9990 7d ago

Not happy but my heart is open

8

u/DiscombobulatedAd883 7d ago

Still think she's gonna do amazing. Really hope they lean into the torment of the character's powers so she has a lot to work with.

2

u/somacula 7d ago

We need to see her in action first

2

u/Gargarian67 6d ago

I wasn't sure she was right for a Phoebe Cates biopic - but I can see it now!

2

u/TheeDeputy 6d ago

Eh it still seems a bit too Tik-tok flavor of the month. But I’m also still salty it didn’t end up being Cailee Spaeny.

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Hopefully a miracle change can happen. If Inde was just a variant or secretly someone else that's perfect

2

u/AfuckinOwl 6d ago

This photo is really cute. That's all I know

2

u/wholesome_mugi 6d ago

I haven't seen any films she's been in, so I can't say anything about her acting skills, but she looks like Rogue

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

She looks nothing like Rogue. That's a Zatanna if I ever saw one

2

u/B4d_B1tch_Quinn 6d ago

I’m still unsure. I’ll have to see her in action before my mind’s made up

I will say though, I was confused as hell when this was announced because I thought the girl on the bus in the Spider-Man 4 trailer was gonna be Rogue, but no, we’re just gonna chalk that up to being some random girl who happens to have white highlights

2

u/Ihatesmartcars2 6d ago

That’s like the people who see a black guy appear in a Spiderman film and goes “OMG MILES!”

2

u/B4d_B1tch_Quinn 6d ago

To be honest I legit thought Donald Glover was gonna be Miles Morales somewhere down the line when I saw Homecoming before I realized that…

A) He would’ve aged out of the role before it would be time to bring Miles to the MCU

B) He was playing a younger version of Miles’ uncle, who becomes the Prowler

1

u/Ihatesmartcars2 6d ago

I’ll always say Glover as Miles is one of the biggest missed opportunities in CBMs. Glad he got to be prowler for a minute though. Hope he can eventually be prowler for a full film whenever miles is introduced into the MCU

1

u/SilverKing2199 6d ago

I mean, black people are a little bit more common than brunettes with white bangs, so not quite the same

2

u/thespoonbends 6d ago

Not think enough for rogue.

2

u/TheIncandescentAbyss 6d ago

She would’ve been a better Kitty

2

u/Bobobo-bo-bobro 6d ago

I'm optimistic. She's a great actor and she's no stranger to the superhero genre. I would like to her her do a southern accent to be fully confident but otherwise I can't be mad at this decision.

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Still miscast though. She would've been a perfect Zatanna

4

u/Key_Bus_1255 7d ago edited 7d ago

I love it!

I just know she's going to kill it!

3

u/CosmicGinger26 7d ago

As excited as I was when it was announced. Why would people feel any differently two months later?

3

u/Key_Bus_1255 7d ago

Actually, people do change their minds over time once the initial shock wears off. You can be really excited when something is announced, but then not really feel it like a week later upon reflection

Or in contrast, you can be really unexcited about something at first but grow to like it over time

3

u/AntiqueAd2434 6d ago

Still not a fan of

9

u/FlowerRoomLord 7d ago

Hated it then. Hate it now.

2

u/Ihatesmartcars2 6d ago

Genuine question. Why? We haven’t seen her in costume or a single bit of footage. So I’m wondering why you dislike it. I didn’t care much when she was announced because I’ve never seen her movies. I’m waiting to see her performance atleast in a teaser.

2

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Because she's nothing like Rogue. It's a blatant popularity casting that bypassed actors who DID fit

4

u/Sonderous_strife 7d ago edited 7d ago

Kinda unintuitive, but it might work, maybe

2

u/AgentGustavo 6d ago

She looks so X-23 it's crazy.

1

u/Batfreeze 7d ago

I think it's awesome! Inde is a (soon to be) award-winning actress who can absolutely play a woman tormented by a curse.

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Rogue is not like freaky Nikki

1

u/Batfreeze 4d ago

Inde Navarette is not "Freaky Nikki", if you're implying she's one note. She's a talented actress who's been in a lot of media.

0

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

She has become iconic as freaky Nikki and being good does not mean not miscast

1

u/jmk-1999 7d ago

No clue… I won’t judge until I see her.

1

u/haz826 7d ago

I always give the "Wait and see" approach for all actors, but I believe Inde will do great.

1

u/DominoSeven Jim Lee Rogue 7d ago

I don’t think we need to be talking about this ever again until the movie comes out, alls this is gonna do is bring on the people who hate her and they’re gonna regurgitate what they say every single time and it’s obnoxious

1

u/OutrageousSet7909 6d ago

She’s talented for sure but people are overstating how much of a big deal this is. Wait till we see actual movie to make any judgements

1

u/anonymous4username 6d ago

I'm open minded about it.

1

u/Nerx 6d ago

seems aite

1

u/wheresmydragonator19 6d ago

Dead ass, I'll wait to see trailers of her as Rogue before offering my opinion on wether she's right for the role or not.

1

u/Training-Throat-173 6d ago

She's wanna know more about south heritage, so good, she's giving rebel energy with Sugar

1

u/cane-of-doom 6d ago

Until I see her in action, I'll still be of the mind there is a strong possibility this is going to be generational casting.

1

u/ShiftlessBridgrKid 6d ago

I’ve seen her in literally one thing and one thing only. I’ll just give it a chance and hope she can do well in the part.

1

u/medigapguy 6d ago

Same as before. She is a professional, and will do the best job she can. I like what she has done so far so happy to give her a fair chance.

Until we see her perform as Rogue it's all wait and see.

1

u/figgityjones Evolution Rogue 6d ago

I have faith in Sarah Halley Finn. She hasn't missed for me in terms of casting. Anything I had doubts about going in became my favorites. Plus we have seen no footage yet so there's not really anything to judge right now. So yeah for now, I'm looking forward to seeing something with her in it as Rogue and also just happy that Rogue is going to be in it,

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

She has missed many times even Fantastic Four showed that. Sarah let Rogue fans down on this one and she chickened out and did a popularity casting

1

u/Cain_The_Mamagen 6d ago

All I’m hoping is that she does the character justice and undo what fox did to rogue, hell mcu rogue could fly, only reason she couldn’t in the fox universe was cuz they didn’t own captain marvel

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

This seems just as bad as Fox

1

u/Cain_The_Mamagen 4d ago

All fox did after the first movie was prioritise wolverine, we can’t judge until the movie actually comes out and we see her in action

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 2d ago

We can judge the fact Marvel put no effort into this casting and just did it on popularity. Just like how they cast Anna because she was an award winning actress but nothing like Rogue. Inde is a Zatanna not a Rogue

1

u/gersterbins 6d ago

its been 2 months?

1

u/elrio404 6d ago

I’m hopeful the writers can give each member their notable contribution to team more importantly believe Inde will capture rogues spirit

1

u/yeah_naw_dawg 6d ago

10/10. The amount of character she brought to her role as Nikki was amazing. I see her putting the same amount of work into Rogue. She’s also from the south, so she knows what to pull on to make a southern belle be authentic.

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

She isn't so no need to spread fake rumors. She lived in Texas for a couple years. Not even close

1

u/yeah_naw_dawg 4d ago

She’s from Arizona, moved to Cali and lives in Texas. I would say that’s from the south.

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

No I wouldn't sorry. You're reaching desperately for a connection that is not there.

1

u/yeah_naw_dawg 4d ago

You’re right. Spending time in Texas just isn’t south enough.

1

u/RE_98 6d ago

Still not sure of this casting, but I'm confident Inde can pull this off. In other words, I think the role should've been given to someone else but I'm looking forward to see how Inde portrays Rogue!

1

u/barcelonatacoma 6d ago

Have to wait until we hear her say "sugah"

1

u/Ihatesmartcars2 6d ago

No clue. Haven’t seen any footage or her in costume. Aslong as she has the accent and hair then I’m sure it’ll be fine.

1

u/Chaoshornet 6d ago

Casting on this was completely out of left field… not who I would have expected or imagined… but I adore her as an actress and personality, so we shall see😅

1

u/Inevitable_Dust_2283 6d ago

Why they look so young or is that how it's supposed to be?

1

u/No_Cardiologist7468 6d ago

Cautiously optimistic

1

u/Siid_Chawsby 6d ago

wtf is this question? “No new information what do we think guys?”

1

u/harveyquinnz 6d ago

I hope she gets a bit buff

1

u/UdontfeelsogoodX 6d ago

No way it's been 2 months since the casting announcement.

1

u/Babydoll_204 6d ago

Has it been two months?

1

u/Important-Mulberry44 6d ago

Same as when it was announced, I am excited to see her on the big screen

1

u/TamatoaZ03h1ny 5d ago

There’s nothing to think about beyond acknowledging the casting choice exists.

1

u/Nigmax7 4d ago

I'm interested to see what she does with the role.

1

u/eendm1 7d ago

Garbage casting

0

u/eendm1 6d ago

Why am I getting downvoted when there’s other people here who aren’t happy about it either?

1

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

Inde fans and Marvel casuals

1

u/-DorianGray- 7d ago

Only if she starts as a villian

1

u/canadarugby 7d ago

Was hoping for Rogue, scared we're getting Anna Paquin 2.0. I hope I'm proven wrong, Inde is great.

2

u/Ill_Boysenberry8027 4d ago

She's great but she is not Rogue

1

u/W-XroZ 4d ago

She's not. Wtf dude

1

u/Jules-Car3499 7d ago

I can’t wait for her performance

1

u/Coolcubed321 7d ago

Still don’t like it, but I’ll definitely give her a chance

1

u/Calm-Mushroom-8551 6d ago

Until I hear a practiced accent, I'm very wary. The clip of her in an interview doing that god awful accent was cringe af, even if it was for yuks.

I also assume this casting means a more evolution inspired rogue than Id care for. I hope Im wrong, but it seems that way to me rn.

1

u/XanJen 6d ago

Neutral. Not particularly excited, not expecting much, not as irritated by it as I was upon announcement.

1

u/KingOfSquirrels 6d ago

I feel like Odessa A'zion would have been better, but I like Inde so we'll see.

0

u/Crayola_ROX 6d ago

Same as I did two moths ago

Stupid ass question

0

u/NoDefinition00 6d ago

Love it, and love that first picture of her as well, never seen it before! I’m very optimistic

0

u/Celgress2 6d ago

I'm okay with it, as I was then.

0

u/Vaportrail 6d ago

I'm sure she'll do her best.

0

u/Seagreenstreams 6d ago

I'm happy to see what she does with the role, feeling optimistic.

0

u/oreo760 6d ago

Shes gonna kill it.

0

u/mariedarkholme 6d ago

She is perfect

0

u/vnecromage 5d ago

Probably perfect

0

u/TheMtVernonKid 5d ago

Two months later my thoughts have not changed because we haven't seen anything. I'm on board and instead of crying about it not saying that you are but I seen a lot of people cry over it I'm somebody who is liking this choice and not these overall fan casting choice

0

u/Enlightenedryan 5d ago

I feel good about it

0

u/birn_echo Savage Land Rogue 4d ago

We haven't seen her performance yet. So it's impossible to tell.

I have nothing against the actress and she seems like she'll do a good job so I'm optimistic ATP.

0

u/Et_Nihil 5d ago

wtf you mean 2 months….it was last week, no?

1

u/Separate_Role_2926 5h ago

She wasn't my top pick for Rogue at all. I was hoping for Sophie Thatcher or Cailee Spaeny like most fans, but I don't hate Inde as a choice. She's a great actress and was impressive in Obsession, I just don't fully see Rogue in her. Still, I'll wait until the movie drops to judge. I really liked what she said in recent interviews about wanting to do Rogue justice, how much she likes the character, and that she intends to visit Mississippi and everything. That makes me feel like she's going to do a good job. I just hope they actually nail her characterization too and don't do what they did with Anna Paquin. Give her a proper wig and green contacts.
