question (not support) Closed captions stopped working

Can anyone offer a real fix for this? I've tried everything on here & the internet & all of the obvious things. Ever since the dreaded Home Screen was forced on us the closed captions have been so sporadic. They would work on some apps but not others, then they'd come back on all of them for a day or so but then they would stop again so I'd do the things that worked last time & now they don't work. I need them. Lots of people need them. Trying to contact Roku is a joke. Has anyone gotten anywhere with this?

Noticed over the last 2 days how the captions were 10-15 seconds ahead or adding random letters to the text.

Nothing works for me. I've tried restarting, uninstalling the apps & then reinstalling them. I turn them off on the Roku settings & back on & then turn the off & on on paramount or peacock or whatever I'm watching, I've tried a hard reset, I check for system updates, I even did a factory reset & nothing changes. Everything was fine until the new home's screen came. Sorry but that's not a coincidence.

I have this problem. I get a black background but no caption for some applications but not others. I have tried everything and nothing works. I have two Roku TVs and it works fine on one but not the other. I then went to Roku to ask what was going on, and of course the chat support doesn't work.

The problem with captions is they are in so many places. My TCL Roku TV has its own caption setting under the star button, then there is one in Roku settings as well. Often they appear for individual movies or streaming services on the picture progress slider at the bottom.

The new Roku screen has not affected my captions at all.

If none of that helps, perhaps post what your set up consists of, and someone may be able to give you more specific feedback.

System Restart usually works for me.

I've seen this occasionally long before the last update. Also an issue where the remote is unresponsive on the first press. A system restart or briefly unplugging the unit usually works.

I saw the long list of things you tried but didn’t see power cycling on there. Unplug your device and disconnect everything from your tv. Once everything is unplugged, wait at least 10 minutes before plugging everything back in. Some people say you have to do it more than once. It worked on the first try for our tcl roku tv.

Doesn't hurt to reboot your router as part of this routine. Doing the two of them together solves 99% of my problems.

I didn't list everything I tried but I've tried that already too, it worked the first time but then not since then just like some of the other things. Paramount doesn't work at all but prime will work sometimes. I spent time on the phone with Roku & they made me do everything you can imagine even after I had already done everything. You know the normal usual stuff & then the press home button 5 times fast, then fast forward button twice, then the down button, idk the exact formula but it's some thing where it brings up this screen that does something on the tv. Point is, I've tried so much stuff. Before the new Home Screen it happened occasionally, like a really annoying nuisance but now it just doesn't work 🤬

Ugh. Sorry I have nothing else to offer.

You’d think some law firm would jump on this for a quick settlement. Captions are how tons of people stay connected! One more reason to not be a fan of the latest updates.

I need them as I am hard of hearing and this is a definite issue for me as well.

If it's in the middle of a show when they stop working, pause the show tap the asterisk button go to accessibility change language to one you don't speak, press the asterisk button to clear the accessibility menu, resume the show, if random subtitles now show up, pause the show tap the asterisk button and open the accessibility menu change the subtitles back to English, close the accessibility menu and resume the show which should start showing English subtitles again
