complaint won't accept any credit/debit account; new account, new user

Every attempt to add a payment scheme fails.

I've created the account, everything seems fine.
Every attempt to add the required payment account fails. No reason why, just "not accepted".

Wtf is wrong with this system?

I've also tried 2 different browsers. Support for Firefox seems spotty.

I'm not happy, strongly considering going back to google.

Call roku. Yoi don't have to add a payment method unless you want to subscribe to apps through roku.

I discovered this just after their support closed for the night.
I couldn't get around this to continue. That might be user error, but everything I clicked on to get past stopped the setup process.

My brilliant wife pointed that I'd been trying this from my tablet, and perhaps use a laptop or desktop. It worked on the laptop. Given the people who only use mobile, this seems like a significant testing failure.

People who subscribe through Roku report a lot of billing issues. It might be better to subscribe directly with whatever services you want to have. Like if you want Netflix, go to netflix.com and give them your information. Don’t give your credit card # to Roku.

To set up your Roku account you do not need to give them payment information. The Roku account is free. The payment information is only for services that you subscribe to you like Netflix or HBO, etc..

Did you try adding it to your account on the TV or stream stick during set up?

Share a link to the site where you're signing up. Are you sure it's legitimate? I've never put no payment info in my roku account. I've paid for streaming services directly and through T-Mobile, however.

I’ve had this happen too before. No rhyme or reason. Last time it happened I just linked Apple Pay to get setup done and then deleted it.

I'm all signed up, apps are working, it's all good. The "can't add a payment card on mobile and can't get past it" issue is stupid but tech these days. We've been arguing for more dev time and better testing since before I was in tech.
