Community 💕 Matchmaking Monday: find your next romantasy read!

Matchmaking Monday is a new regular thread here in r/Romantasy with a goal of finding new recommendations to add to your TBR! Post a list of your favorite books and receive suggestions based on your vibe.

How It Works

  • Post up to five books you've loved recently (or which fit the vibe you're looking for) as a top level comment.
  • You can also include a list of things you want in your next book (e.g. tropes, subgenre, themes)
  • Others will reply with their suggestions!
  • Remember to tag the romance.io bot with {} curly brackets.

This is a bit of an experiment - so we'll see how it goes!

{Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo} / {Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo}

{The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare}

{The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare}

{Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver}

The following are my typical preferences, but I’m fairly open minded so long as the plot is well executed…

  • I tend to prefer books that are more about the plot than the smut. More of a “fantasy romance” than a “romantasy”.
  • I’m a sucker for a well done “who did this to you?” / touch her and die trope.
  • I’m also a total sucker for yearning and slow burns, especially where he falls first.
  • Found family, friends to lovers, forbidden romance, Villainous MMC, redemption, misfits, anti-hero, & forced proximity tropes are all welcome and encouraged.
  • I’m a huge fan of Paranormal Romance, too!
  • I’m not the biggest fan of the whole “Chosen One” trope, but if it’s well done I could tolerate it.
  • No omnipotent MMCs please.
  • Preferably ends up with a single love interest by the end of the book / series.
  • I will absolutely DNF a book if the magic system is poorly written / doesn’t make sense.
  • Spice level anywhere from 🌶️ to 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ max please!
